I'm considering trading Houston in mainly because I have to fix my defence, as it has too many Rookies (I will have to miss out on B Smith, hmmm). I'm leaning to D/M Houston because I can put D/M Rivers in the midfield, might be handy later through the Byes and I don't have any PTA players, again balancing my team to help it during the Byes.
As mentioned, yes he may go back to defence, but who knows? Houston trained preseason with the midfield, so I expect him to play mainly midfield.
You don't have to miss Baz. He'll likely be $23-$27k higher in price next week, but still only around $435k.

I'd be careful with Houston now, he moved back to the midfield when Burton was back from injury. And now Burton is out with a quad
Thanks for the reply. If I hear of a solid reason to not select Houston, I won't.

I don't know much about Houston's current role in the team, that is not helpful to me.
Burton didn't play Rds 3, 4 & 5 and Houston scores were 73, 76, 117. Houston then went on to score 109 & 107 in the next 2 rounds. Small sample, so I'm not sure it is helpful. Just maybe the 23yo, with 67 played games, is taking the next step. :unsure:

My selection of Houston is influenced on the following information:

Preseason, Michael Voss said Houston is set to play a midfield role on a permanent basis in 2020.

Hinkley said Houston trained the whole pre-season with the midfield group.

Monday, 17 February 2020
Dan Houston is relishing his permanent switch to the midfield, revealing he never thought it would happen until getting his chance midway through 2019.
"I thought I'd be down back for the majority of my career. Obviously last year in China, Rocky pulling out late, sort of opened that door a little bit, but I'd always gone in there at training to help improve my skills in that area," Houston said.
It's the first time Houston has completed a full pre-season as a midfield having started his career as a forward before moving into defence.
"I found last year I was trying to learn during the game and not so much during the week at training," he said.
"I think my running's improved, so I feel like I can get from contest to contest and get around the ground really well compared to last year."

Option 1: Pitt + any rookie (lets say Budarick) ---> Bazlenka + Goldy.

- Would essentially mean 1 less mid rookie on-field (someone like Bennell) compared to the following option, and S. Hill at D6.

Option 2: " " ---> Gawn + Eggman

- Would mean a Bennell is on-field in mids, but Egg would be D6, and I fancy him to hold ~80 with his role. + Gawn doesn't have a bye.

Unfortunately Gawn + Baz is out of reach by 40k or so.

Houston's role in the team and position might just have something to do with Rockliff & Wines and see how they affect his SC scoring.

Just a idea ?

Anything I’m missing on Minchington?

62 points, 13 touches, and he’s the lowest priced rookie this week.

Barely seems to be in anyone’s trade plans.
I think if there was something to suggest he had JS, seems like a handy pick. But it seems his JS is iffy and his scoring potential is pretty average as well (historically 50-60). Probably not enough reward for the JS risk.

Awesome table, thanks.

So will teams need to be announced for the next round potentially before they've played games in the previous round? How's that going to work?
I was thinking about that, too, assume it would have to be something like around 18:00 two days before that game on a rolling basis(?)

I'm disappointed on missing B Smith because this round is the 'ideal' time to get him in.
I realised B Smith won't go up much, that's why I'm now focusing on my weak defence.
But with the extra trades, I am now considering getting Simpkin and Greewood ahead of B Smith.

Think his JS is very very poor. He tries hard but is a very limited footballer, I’d be surprised if he was in the team long.

Cheers both of you. Makes sense now.

I need a rookie this week and my preference is to go one up one down with two donut players whilst holding King and Taylor.

Will look at Weightman and weight up whether going late on Simpson/Day/McPherson and ditching one of the playing rookies is the better alternative.

See my comments in Rookies thread. How he got 86 off his stats bewilders me, it looked more like a 36 not an 86. Would be surprised if he isn't dropped this week.
His score came from his 15 x 1%'s.
Mainly spoiling opposition marks. Still a bit over.
Dougal Howard did something similar in Rnd 1, 2018.
11 Disp's + a record 21 x 1%'s = 107 SC.

Re: Minchington - Also now has round 10 bye and so you’d have to be prepared to carry him through that with other premiums out.

Not at all happy with my trade options this week - I need 3 trades this week, not next week!

Pretty much locked in one trade in bringing in Egg for Rowell (Rivers or Starcevich to midfield). I need to do a downgrade this week or I will run out of cash this season. Egg seems the best option to me. The second trade is the problem (made worse with Simpkin missing).

===

Option 1 is to bring in Whitfield or B.Smith for King. This means keeping Pittonet for another week, who will be even more expensive to replace next round. This gives me a field of:

Docherty, Sicily, Short, Hurn, B.Williams, Egg

Mitchell, Boak, Greenwood, Bont, Cogs, D.Smith, two of (Serong, Hibberd, McInerney, Budarick, Rivers, Starcevich)

Grundy, Pittonet

Petracca, Dusty, Whitfield/Smith, Hill, Rankine, Aarts

===

Option 2 is to trade in English for Pittonet. This gives me either 4 rookies up forward with zero bench cover or having to play 3 of the above midfield rookies (if named) if I swing a DPP to the forward line.

Docherty, Sicily, Short, Hurn, B.Williams, Egg

Mitchell, Boak, Greenwood, Bont, Cogs, D.Smith, and two of (Serong, Hibberd, McInerney, Budarick, Rivers, Starcevich)

Grundy, English

Petracca, Dusty, King, Hill, Rankine, Aarts

===

Not liking either option a lot, I think I nearly have to go with the second option, but that gives one weak looking forward line - half of them scored 50's last week, and even less for 2-3 scores in midfield. I don't have any other bench players I can use instead except for possibly Brander who is in defence in either option, so expecting to have a shocker this round.

I’d go McP. I think JS should get the most priority at this time of the year.
