If it's not Gawn it's a toss up between Lycett and Nic Nat depending on the rest of preseason. I'll pick Gawn if he plays in a preseason game and seems fine.

I'm not sure you can try to hold a round 14 bye player til after Gawn's bye and get him in then, I think you're better off creating a better bye structure so you can get Gawn into your team earlier in the year or just so you can choose the player you think is best besides Gawn. It could be an issue if they share the bye with Gawn because thats a bad bye but if it's a round 12 player as long as you have enough players on field you're only losing about 40 points over the byes.

No love for ROB? 95 odd average in his first season, coming into the traditional prime ruckman years and no Sauce coloured cloud hanging over him. No Gawn, Grundy or Goldy in the first 8 weeks, in fact he has arguably what most would call close to a dream ruck fixture in the front half of the year.

Yeah I liked him at the first glance but looking at the opponents he scored well against last year it makes me question whether he was very lucky and his average without sauce was inflated, as I showed on the previous page.

I'm not sure he has a great fixture to start the year depending on how long you plan to keep him as he has the 3 or 4 other hardest match ups outside of the 3 you've mentioned against Lycett, Marshall/Ryder, Witts & Martin/Big O. Bellchambers isn't a walk in the park either if he's fit but he has easy games against Nank and the Swans ruck. He then gets Gawn in round 9 if you still have him, which isn't ideal.

Good question as it turns out Tim - he tends to miss his games late in the year.

Last year was a notable exception - arguably this was just the ongoing effect of a (late season) injury from 2018 though.

Reilly Obrien got an armchair ride for match ups last year and it was great for everybody who had him.

Out of his 6 tonnes:
123 vs Freo versus Lobb (with no Sandilands and no Darcy)
104 vs Mumford
181 vs Chol & Balta (with no Nank and no Soldo)
120 vs Rhys Stanley
149 vs Zac Clarke (with no Bellchambers)
110 vs Andrew Phillips (with no Kreuzer)
He had two additional scores in the 90's, a 90 versus Witts and a 91 versus Vardy.

I still reckon he can be a decent pick given his young age and what he achieved in his first year a starter. Scoring big against poorer opponents should also carry over to an extent. I just reckon he was slightly fortunate with some of the opponents he had. Lycett was also fortunate at times but I think how he performed whilst he shared duties for so much of the year puts him in a different light.

I'm also definitely looking at Nic Nat but I'm not really sure how to utilise all the extra money he will give me at this stage.

I read 'Word is Tim English has put on another 5 Kgs' , I can't confirm that. If true, English is an emerging ruckman who the media kept saying is not having the frame to shoulder the load as a No.1 ruck. Maybe next year will be his year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he scores well this year, especially with the midfield he has at his feet.

From what I have read, I'm pretty confident Gawn will play Rd1, so he's locked in my team. But if not, POD English is tempting me.

Reasons are that he will be sharing ruck minutes with Hickey and Vardy and will be able to come off onto the bench more often compared to ROB and Lycett

Everyone who picks Nic Nat goes in knowing he'll only play 60% game time. Nothing unusual there. He's an impact player who plays in short bursts.

When he's fit... Nic Nat is simply one of the best scoring rucks in the comp... regardless of who is partnering him at the Eagles. (Hickey, Vardy, Allen, Williams). He makes every touch count and has a huge influence on games thus his fantastic scoring from limited minutes.

It's all entirely about about his body and injuries.

He is however having a fantastic pre-season this year, doing all the sessions and looking great. As is Josh Kennedy. It's great too see them up and about this pre-season after so many years of interrupted pre-season's.

I was against selecting him as a keeper all year, But if Gawn misses the start of the season... I'm now considering Nic Nat and trading to Gawn later on.

Would be awesome if we could get to the point where Oscar can be the relief ruck.. would free up the spot for Brander to get games over Hickey (an investment in the future, not a knock on how Hickey has performed).. a guy can dream right?

For me, it's Naismith at R3 for any short term injury cover. A lot of $ to have on the bench, but I think it's worth it for peace of mind. Would hope he has gone up in price before any long term injury occurs.
Worse case scenario with an early long term injury I would play Naismith and wait until Gawn has gone down/ Naismith up in price to double trade NicNat and Naismith to Gawn and rookie
