Any word on how McIntosh is travelling? Would have to be brave to pick McIntosh and Sandy. I really like Lobbe for a breakout contender. Not sure how Grundy will go in only his second year, after half a season playing at that.
Tossing up between McIntosh/Sandilands for my second ruck. Long time before rd.1 so, see how they go before then for now.

MacI is doing well...but still nearly 3 months to go so will have to watch him closely particularly in the preseason games. It's either going to be him or Simpson for the No.1 Ruck. I guess I;m the brave one with locks on MacI and Sandi

McIntosh with over 100 games experience should be the cats number one ruckman if fit, shouldn't he?

Yes he's the Cats best ruckman surely. If he plays enough games he'll be a steal. Has only played 8 in the last two years but played the first 7 last season so should hopefully last til a price rise if fit round 1. Goldy started cheap last season after injury concerns too.

Simpson is better.

Simpson is better.
Agreed. He will be dominant.

BTW, the last time McIntosh played a season of substance was 2010 and he averaged 81.6.
He had one solid season, back in 2009 where he averaged 91.
1 game 2011.
7 games 2012 (103 average but very small sample that includes a 140 (against Gold Coast) and 2 77's).

Is he just as injury prone as HMac though? His game counts are terrible, season to season.
He's also 5 years younger and rucks take time. Also his injury problems have mainly been due to his back (he had a bulging disc with needed surgery), which forced him out of the side for a lot of the last few years, but he finally overcame that this year so I think that injury is less of a concern for him than Macintosh.

Thanks Nk. I had him in my draft team last season, and was more than happy. The bulging disc worries me a little, especially in a big man. I will monitor his pre-season, but he is one I thought was underpriced, if he could get his game count up.

He does have a high ceiling doesn't he? Against lesser rucks at any rate. Could really break out if fit.

I remember doing a quick study of Ruck scores against Melbourne near the end of the season last year.
The Rucks playing against Melbourne were scoring at 20-50% higher than their recent form would have suggested. Throw in Jacobs struggling last season, and all of a sudden Simpsons figures don't look all that good.

Was Simpson's Freo game against the rookie ruck as well? Hannath?

I agonise over rucks every year more than any other position and this year is no exception. I've created a short-list from which I would ideally like to select two round 10 bye rucks, one round nine bye ruck and one round eight bye ruck. I have 1,105,800 to spend. I actually think I need to take a little cash from elsewhere but for the purposes of this exercise, who would you guys take from the following list?:

Sandi (10)
HMac (8)
Grundy (8)
NicNat (9)
Currie (8)
Longer (10)
Simpson (8)
Minson (9)

I am thinking about DPP so I'm also considering picking Thurlow but I'm loathe to take Dixon at this point.

The more I think about it the more important it is to have a playing R3 this season.

Eg - Nic Nat, Sandi, (Longer, King)

or my current favourite... the Mid Price of H Mac, Sandi, (Grundy King) which will hopefully make some money without costing too many points.

The lack of R/F swing means donut or trade are high on the cards. Rucks always cost soooooo many trades I may as well try and make some cash out of them!

The only alternative I see is to go durable and reliable. Any ideas for who are the most durable rucks? - jacobs, goldy, minson, cox I guess???

Agreed Blaze. Every year, I burn trades through the ruck department. Sandi-Leuy-Maric last year. Just lucky to have had the good sense to have Goldy from the start. I have had Sandi every year since I can remember. Been burned a good number of times. Will be a very tough call for me to leave him out. Natanui / Sandi / Longer has merit. Loophole R2 and R3 maybe. Goldy and minson look for me to be the 2 standouts. If I don't start with at least one of them it will be impossible to trade both in. If I'm doing Sandi/Longer may as well just slot Goldy in. About the same price. Currie as R3 for Goldy Insurance/donut. R4 as the most likely cheap ruck to get a game. Rucks are going to be a hard one to get right, but the rewards will be huge if you can nail it.

Dixon will essentially be my R3 at this stage. However I intend to play him forward and have 2 rookie rucks of which one will be RUC/FWD so I can shift Dixon to play ruck if my R1 and R2 have one short any week. At this stage I'm thinking of using Mummy and Kruezer for ruck and not spending big for the Goldy, Minson and Cox types.

Been toying with this as well, don't really like a lot of money sitting on the ruck bench. It seems at least one should have a cheap R/F sitting on the ruck bench.

Really depends on how much you value your trades, or if you are going to treat a mid-price ruck as a bit of a mini cash cow if/when required.

If there is a standout and obvious rookie ruck come pre season, I think this debate will almost fade into nothing.
