Gutsy call picking Buddy.

As an idea, maybe have Martin in his place in the fwd line & pick Hately/Heppell for around the same price in your midfield.

This is it where I may be at for starters
At least I'm not the only one who thinks Treloar could be a great pick and that picking defenders is easy --- Laird in the mids :)

I think we have some gifts in $212 to $260k price range in the forwards...but I also like you've managed to squeeze 13 keepers...I still think some of the gifts must be taken, how many is the question.

Testing out different combinations is by far the most enjoyable part of the season.

No Neale, Heeney, Gawn and Lloyd along with no remaining salary.
Very brave to not start any of Neale, Gawn or Lloyd (Don't think Heeney is a must have myself)

Those 3 could easily finish as the top scorer in each of their respective positions along with being very viable VC/Capt options each week.

Not sure on Witherden myself - With Hurn/Sheppard/ Duggan/ Cole/ Rotham we have many half backs (Gov & Barrass in the key posts) so would need to see him excel in practice games to pick him with confidence at that price.

Might be better off have Laird in defence & get Rowell in the mids (with some money juggling required). Fyfe expected to play more fwd this year also so I think I would rather wait to see how his scoring goes/ upgrade target rather than starting.

Current team, very much Guns & Rookies except in the fwd line with so many bargain options in 260K-200K range :-

Williams/ Rowell/Taranto are such good value, could be potential keepers (Taranto is having a great preseason by reports).

De Goey is a gamble but he looms as this year's Petracca - burning up the training track/ looks much fitter/ training with the mids.

Ziebell & Impey playing half back which is traditionally a very lucrative SC position, some talk Cockatoo might have some time playing half back as well.

A gamble not starting Grundy however Preuss has scored very well when given the number 1 ruck role in the past so is well priced for the potential output.

Nice side.

I'd argue this is more MPM than G'n'R.

I've got a side lined up whereby if Rd 1 rooks are looking thin then I can lean on something like this.

My first team. I expect this to change 100 times but I think it's a good start. Opinions?
Too many high priced rookies for mine (over 170K) - Phillips is fair enough with his AFL ready body/scoring ability/ role but having all of DGB (I think he will be a star in time)/ Perkins/ Campbell hurts your bank balance overall.

I have seen a few teams with Harmes, what is the attraction with him at that awkward price do you mind me asking?

Harmes has said he is looking at a midfield role again this season, he averaged 95 in 2019. I'm considering him, but also trying to avoid having too many mid pricers this season.

Interesting but with Oliver/ Petracca/Viney/Brayshaw/Langdon its a packed dees midfield along with Gawn gobbling up plenty of points also.

Good start but I would reassess your midfield as you are a premium short. Early days with rookies but Perkins unlikely to be a big scorer so I would downgrade to a $123k if available. The Harmes pick may workout, but even if he averages 90 I don’t think he will be a top 6 defender so I would re-evaluate that pick considering the price.

Will be listening out for any "Rozee to the midfield" type comments.
I don’t think you need much help based upon your record. Well done!

Question marks for me on ...

Doherty... can he return to the player he was.
Williams... I’m not totally sold that he will be top 6. Stong defensive group this year and Carlton roles and scoring load a little unknown. Popular pick and well priced but in my risk list right now.

Taranto... sh**h**** last season but has upside, will Green take his points if gets full time role.

Heppell... enough reported on risk but if right good pick.

Pruess... back to 29 min quarters with no tank and if he breaks down what’s your get of jail card as Marshall to ruck is still draining points.

Heeney... huge fan but will need a big pre season for me to select him after his injury last year

Rozee - great player but is he a SC star or a star we want to be SC relevant?

Just my January take.

What is the rationale of Brown over Daniher?

What is the rationale of Brown over Daniher?
Durability - from 2016 through to 2019 Brown played all 22 games of the season, last year was the exception. SC averages were between 76 & 83 over that period.

Daniher over the last 3 years has played 4 games, 4 games & 7 games for the season. He did average 86 in 2017, next highest is 68 in 2015.

I know Brisbane's medical team have done amazing things with injury prone players over the last few years, I will be watching Daniher's preseason very closely/ high on my watchlist.

I have the higher priced rookies all in for now until others emerge but I think I'll definitely be selecting DGB and Phillips if they both play. For Harmes I was looking for another midpricer in defence just because the rookies down there are usually the hardest to get right as well as very scarce and I had saw Harmes being mentioned as moving back into the midfield where he previously averaged just over 90 so hopefully a future D6 option.
