Loving the thought process mate, thinking exactly the same in regards to maximsing the amount of premos onfield that play every week rather than try and overload on the most expensive guys. Gawn is my one exception, I cannot ignore his soft early draw and his C security, especially as I'm not planning on starting a loophole. I've got 11 guys from last years Top 100 averages, plus Taranto Phillips Caldwell, aswell as Ziebell Daniher Clark.

Loving this thread now we are are so close to the start of the marathon, great stuff for those posting sides and those providing feedback.

My turn to put my thoughts out there... with the unknowns in the rookies i much prefer a side that has guys that aren't as sexy on paper but will score week in week out, and maximise the number of prems on field and minimise the trades needed to go full prem.

Maybe gone too far in the rucks tho..... really coming down to an x vs y now of say Hunter/macrae vs grundy/102k rook, or similar. But like this side whichever way the x/y settles.

Im playing for overall and think those starting with only 12 prems with Grawndy and Neale and lloyd (and going for overall) might struggle to complete their sides, different if league is your aim. Just my 2c and that's what makes this game so fun. I strongly feel your trading strategy after the end of round 1 is more important than who you started, or didn't start, as no one will nail every pick. I didn't start grawndy or lloyd last year and did ok, prepared to go this route again as i think the rucks are potentiality the best rookies this year.

My out plan if the rucks really go pear shaped is ditch a prem somewhere and bring in Marshall when he's back early, or start the "Super early 2022 strategy" thread lol.

Another risk is Kelly, injury always a worry, so it's either him or fyfe, or could be mitchell or even adams, lol all injury risks after the previous spiel.

Really think the interchange rule will suit gaff, not expecting a breakout (he's past that age wise), but every game at 104-108 means no headaches and forms part of a great mid base. Cripps for potential worth the risk as well.

Maximise every dollar, and hopefully that means I've got 14 solid prems, (inc 2 breakouts bolton, duggan) and daniher/ziebs. Doc and dunkley are the ones im least sold on, and without llllllloyd I've really locked in all 6 Defs, either genius or stupidity, time will tell.

Feedback appreciated!

Where I am at currently..

DEFS: Lloyd has been in and out, but ultimately my gut says don't pay full price with an ongoing knee niggle. Laird, Daniel and Short look rock solid as picks. Also like Stewart, Ridley and Doch here but you can't fit them all in. I hate the rookies here and will definitely not be starting one. See money making potential in all three of Cumming, Young and Clark. Cumming on kick out duties and should be able to find the ball more than he did in the pre-season game IMO. Not as worried about Ryan/Duncan as some others for Young and Clark, think both are set for really big years.

MIDS: Macrae and Merrett boring standard picks and rightfully so, plenty will have them. Taranto hasn't left my side all pre-season, happy to write off 2020 and can see improvement from his club champion 2019 season. Danger is in the mids right now as I just don't want to leave him out, couldn't find another forward I wanted to leave out either. Like Steele and Fyfe as well who could very well come in still. Rookies here look the strongest and which is why I have four on the field. Don't 100% like leaving Neale out, but also not a fan of taking players who have had soft tissue injuries throughout the preseason.

RUCKS: Lock and load, best R3 looks to be Flynn.

FWDS: Dunkley, Dusty and Phillips locks for mine - all look set for big years. Gone for some more value picks here like in defence - see real money making ability from all three. All had big pre-seasons, all fit and I think you just have to back that in and hope for the best. Don't rate the rookies here either, would rather not start one. Not buying the Warner hype personally, Horse has burnt me too many times before and Warner seems like he is on the fringe.

Probably more mid-pricey than I normally go in with, but once again I just think the rookies look particularly weak this year and I'm not prepared to drop a ruckman for a rookie. I think I have 12 premiums to start with anyway which is a good start. Could easily cave and tinker to bring in Lloyd/Neale as they are the two guys I'm most worried about not having due to potential "hurt factor".

Subject to change! But thoughts always welcome.

Love this as a team that's just going for it for overall.

Gaff stands out as against the narrative of the team, if you're just picking him as a safe 106-108 for 570k.

You also have a couple of 102k rookies who have just been announced to have troubles for RD1 (Murray ankle, Treacy suspension) and no money to fix them, so I would be looking to free up some cash to fix them. (although a Fyfe donut for the same price might be the best option for Murray anyway).

Other concern is you are possibly missing out on some of the better forward rookie options (Warner, Fullarton, Bergman).

One tempting option might be Gaff down to Taranto, Bolton down to Warner, Treacy to Bergman and get the best defender you can in place of Murray (pretty sure that gets you up to Short but not sure if it gets you up to Daniel). I know that means filling the DEF line without Lloyd but I think you can take the gamble that an opportunity will come up to get him. One appealing aspect of that is that it goes all-in on the bet that defensive rookies fail where your ruck rookies succeed, because there will be very few who can avoid rookie defs if they are paying up for the rucks, so you make the most of both sides of the gamble. Just thinking out loud though.

Another way of looking at it would be that you are making one big bet on the rookie rucks so the rest of your team could be quite conservative so that your gambles are all confined to the one place. In that version you could turn Duggan and Bolton into Clark and Oliver or something.

Love it though. Good luck!

Hopefully get the rookies to support this setup - as long as not too much changes between now and the weekend.

Nice side

We have all the same premiums but I have Sam Walsh and Dunkley, whilst you have Zerrett and Danger, and I have Daniher

Our sides will have a similar fate to start the year :p

Exactly $0 remaining, with potentially 13 keepers (provided Cripps and Phillips come good). The remaining premiums should all score well, based on their preseason games. Only question mark is on Oliver - will watch with interest on him.

2 cheap mid-pricers in JClark and Ziebell, but most teams will have them.

7 onfield rookies, fingers crossed they all get named this week.
