Highmore “very good” in the VFL today, via someone who played in the same side as him.

Also a few similar quotes doing the rounds on twitter from onlookers.
Good news with the Webster injury definitely opening a door at least and Long certainly not doing anything to take it last night.

Still think they should be persisting with Clark in the midfield anyway and Highmore should take that spot regardless of the injury to Webster. They just don't have enough class through the middle with Steele the only one who really consistently kicks to Saints players and then Ross, Jones, Crouch and Dunstan all getting games who generally don't kick to teammates.

Agreed on both accounts.

Do we know what Hunter Clark's tank is like? My mate who is an owner watched him pretty closely last night and reckons he looked gassed a lot throughout. Wondering if that may be holding him back from more time through the middle? As he looks a class above those other four names you've mentioned when he is in there.

Probably an aspect of it, could also be similar to Mills at Sydney the last few years where they just value him highly as a defender because he is good there also.

Josh worrell may get a crack for Kelly this week. (If not this week he is not far off) Could be an excitng rookie downgrade option on the cards with def/fwd dpp too. This kid has talent and i can see him coming in and making a spot his own

Richmond VFL live streamed the game on YouTube.
Missed most of the first q when he was going well, but Highmore was far from impressive in the last 3, Sandy as a whole were pretty bad though.

Best part of Macrae's game for mine was his I50 kicking.

Worst part was his general disposal though and not really doing anything contested. The positive is the team was so putrid in both areas it would be a bit rich to blame it on the first gamer and was also disgraceful on the inside 50 kicking so that's a big tick.

Running out the game well an added bonus. Throw in the amount of pure passengers they had in the likes of Brown, Sier, Quaynor (worst game I've seen from him, had a good 5 contests he shirked, multiple causing goals but rate him long term), Thomas, Daicos, Noble, Cameron and Mayne who are all more senior and, again, blaming the first gamer would be very rich...

Pies a pretty good example that paying top 15 players to play for other teams instead of yours is a generally bad idea...

Is 41 a good first score for a rookie? And make them worthy of trading in?
Role and job security is more important than a first up score. Not everyone is a Gulden in their first few games, in fact most definitely aren't.
He had 18 touches. I think finding the ball that much is one of the biggest hurdles for a rookie. If they can find the Sherrin, some decent scores are bound to follow at some point.

North Melb.
Lewis Young looks a fairly handy player. Worth watching closely for the rest of this game. Might be a POD to Chapman and will have some job security with Gardner out long term

Eyeing off a FWD rookie to trade in.
2 on the short list are both from the pies in Macrae & McCreery.
A bit of discussion above on Macrae, but any thoughts on McCreery?
Mcreery has looked OK in his first two games and should still get a game for the next few rounds at least, but if you have to pick one only then it has to be Macrae imo even just off that one game.

McCreery has scored well and I love the way he attacks the man and ball but his role is very ordinary and I think we're seeing higher end scoring right now rather than lower end (could kick a few and go higher but that's about all that's likely to push it higher right now).

Macrae role better and he showed some real ability to find the ball in it as the game progressed.

Job security seems about equal on both, neither are really good or really bad with injuries opening doors and them having the chance to hold them. Pies going to need to make the call soon whether they're going for finals or rebuilding a bit this year which could make or break both but lot of senior players were worse than either of them last week that should, imo, be going out first.

Don't expect Treacy to get picked this week but he's the other option if you haven't already got him, I think he's a weaker level cow than either of them but he does have some genuine utility with his DPP and is base priced for added cash banking.

Campbell already traded last week for me! Would hope Warner doesn't need a spell given he's a second year player, Gulden might be in danger for a rest. But I don't plan to keep either for too much longer anyway. Let upgrade season begin.
