So defending champion @Bomber18 carries his early dominance into the round 1 lead however there a few snapping at his heels and the whole field is within 9 strokes which I think means everybody is only 1 good game away from being right in the thick of it. It will get a bit more difficult next week with only 2 games available to get 1 good score and shoot up the rankings; however it also true that those up the top could easily have a couple of poor ones and drop down.

Admittedly I was a little nervous with my decision to go with best score when it looked like the best score for most was going to come out of the same game. However with quite a few improving their position in the final game I am happy with the way it turned out particular in comparison to what it would have looked like if I went with aggregate which is provided above for reference.

Seriously- who determined that random inconsistency was better than consistent goodness
Serious question that impacts ongoing participation

That would be me. I would have thought that was reasonably obviously and the reasons have been clearly articulated in earlier posts.

The rules were clearly defined from the start, and as a result has impacted I'm sure on how most people have chosen to participate.

Personally, knowing that only one score would count, I played more aggressively compared to the practise week, where I mostly went within a bracket or two of the player's season or 3/5-week average. Last week I was trying to pick an 'average' score, this week I went for some calculated risks and some value (such as Ben Brown 90-300+ which I thought he was a reasonable chance of pulling.

Unfortunately my strategy didn't quite pay off how I thought it might; while I often picked 3-4, the 4-5 that I missed badly meant that it often averaged out to around even. My theory was that if I nailed a captain and say 3 other -2s then I'd be sitting nicely at -10 and could afford 1 or 2 shockers.

Back to the drawing board for next week!

@Rowsus jumps from =3rd to 1st.
@jel jumps from =22nd to =2nd, improving his Eclectic total by a whopping 9!!!!
@jel improved his 1st hole score by the maximum possible of 6, moving from a +2 to a -4!!!!
@MC's Mix moved from =10th to =2nd, improving his Eclectic score by 6.
@MC's Mix improved his 4th hole score from +2 to -2.
@blue dreamer moved from =3rd to =2nd
@Bomber18 fell from 1st to =2nd, when he failed to improve his score of -14.
Break up of scores:
-4 x 13, -2 x 82, -1 x 80, 0 x 29, +1 x 3, +2 x 1

As @jel showed this last game, it is possible to improve your score very quickly, if you are near the bottom of the table. It's very hard to improve your score when you are near the top!!!

I think the reason you were keen on this concept is starting to emerge...
