One of the reasons I run a practice round is trial some ideas before we get to the real thing. As is evident from the scores so far it is really hard to score well and quite easy to blow out so you do get a large spread of scores across the field.

As I indicated we are already trialling something different in this round with only a doubling a captain's score if a birdie or an eagle is achieved. One thing that has never sat comfortably with me is that you don't get a bonus for getting a par for you captain. Obviously doubling zero is zero so a par score scores the same for a player nominated as captain or not. Therefore I am going to trial something slightly different in today's games and that is that a 1 stroke bonus is awarded to the nominated captain if they score par or better. This means the captain's score will be as follows; par -1, birdie -2, eagle -3.

Damn, my picking the max bracket and giving captaincy to Gray for his final game almost paid off. 2 points more from him and I'd be leading. Close, but not quite. :)
You're going very well, I'm going almost last because I'm struggling to pick a score for a spud I'd never pick in SC, especially when they're so wildly fluctuating in their results.

You'll be better from the practice run. Takes a bit of time to get the hang of this. Playing safe is not always the best strategy. Still a lot of luck involved.

Hey mate, am enjoying it so far, made a decent comeback from a potentially disastrous start.
Just curious, are you selecting these fringe players like Cameron, Fritsch etc because of their unpredictability to make it more difficult to guess their score or are they just random names in a hat kinda thing?
I didn't do too badly with a few of those guys but the so called premos like McCluggage and Brayshaw really hurt when I got them wrong.
Your recent post reminded my I hadn't responded to this question.

I didn't think too hard about the players selected in the practice round because there were so many games/teams/players to choose. I did try and avoid players that I would like to use in the finals. For the real comp I try and select a bit of a mix of positions and mix of reliable/inconsistent players.

Cheers, I'll use this practice format to get my yips out and hopefully do better in the Finals :)
