Really looking forward to the Clayton v Dimitri match for 3 reasons.

1) It should be a ripper if Dimitri carries todays form over
2) I'm an owner
3) It's one of the most pivotal matches to the makeup of the leaderboard - 6 Clayton owners vs 5 Dimitri captains (and a couple of others)

The darts kick off 1045pm on Sunday evening Melbourne time, so as long as I have your new squad of 4 (from the remaining 8 players and within $3mil) by then all good.

Should be roughly 12 hours between rounds
A couple of questions from a novice, no action required for round 2? Based on the above QF start Sunday 10.45pm. Also where are the darts televised? I'm sure it's on Foxtel, but missed today's matches.

Trading period will take place at the completion of tomorrow’s fixtures. The tournament will then be down to 8 players. Gives everyone the chance to hit the reset button, pick new 4 player teams within the $3mil cap and select new C/VC.
The only risk when selecting new teams is dropping someone that goes on to win the tournament. That would rule out the bonus points for starting/holding the winner throughout.
Need entries in by 1045pm for the final day.

TV is on Foxtel and Kayo. I watched it on Kayo this morning.

Thanks for confirming. So, in previous tournaments has anyone selected 3 playing and 1 non player to ensure they could secure the bonus points ?

The world champs comp was a bit different. I won’t go any further on that because I’ve modified this slightly.
The basis of making these decisions tomorrow is seeing how many players you get through to tomorrow, and the fixtures. You may also want to punt on differentials.
You want to pick players that are playing generally, although you could pick Wright and Price (if they continue) and fill in the gaps with a non player if you believed they would make it to the final. That is acceptable.

Just on taking a donut.
I see it as being slightly high risk. Today provided some negative scores, but was 11 legs. Getting out to 19 legs there is extra opportunity to hit the peripheral scores (180s, 100+ checkouts, winning matches etc).
That’s why I see picking players that are playing the far safer route.

Maximisation of point scoring opportunities is key. Such is the quality of the players nowadays, they are all capable of beating anyone if they bring their A game. Selecting a donut runs the risk of possibly being left without a player in the Semi Finals or Finals of a tournament which could place you a long way behind the pack.

I agree with all of that. Price and Wright are fantastic players, but they are beatable, and the cap has been designed to make participants choose between both.

I’m sure there will be instances where taking a donut would be rewarded due to someone getting knocked out and losing points due to lost legs/sets. I’d just hope for the integrity of the competition that we try to chase points rather than worrying about losing a few along the way.

Why the hell did i change from this :sick::sick::sick::sick:

58pts all 4 winners to only 2 winners 22pts.
Dead already.
Chin up, only early days. Keep plugging away.
The deficit may look like a lot with a couple of missing players, but a lot of the guys that got through to round 2 have really got to get to the quarters for it to really widen much further. Maybe it does, but maybe it doesn’t.

Learning on the fly ....

- in hindsight, strategy wise I probably should have started Smith over Wade ...
- guess I'll know the answer to that sometime tomorrow

Notes:
- Purple shading are players knocked out of the comp ....
- Blue shading are players that play each other tonight .... I guess the silver lining is that at least one player of each pair will get through to the next round ...

TRADING GUIDE

Lets work on the assumption that the top 8 players get through tonight due to the fact they are the highest priced players and it makes it a bit easier to present this tutorial.

Trading Guide.png

The way I see it there are 3 methods when selecting a team.

METHOD 1:
All 4 players selected are alive in the tournament.

This will involve selecting 4 players within the $3mil salary cap so leads us down the track of only 1 of Price or Wright.
The combination that costs the most within budget is:

1 - Price
3 - van Gerwen
4 - Wade
5 - Smith
at a cost of $2,969,000

METHOD 2:
Take 1 donut

This would involve attempting to select 3 player team to fit Price and Wright in to one team.
The combination would not fit under salary constraints should all top 8 players be alive:

1 - Price
2 - Wright
8 - Clayton
14 - Peterson (alternate)
at a cost of $3,009,000

This method could be adapted by replacing Price/Wright with another top 8 selection, and still taking the donut to fit within salary.

Or as we may find with tomorrow's 8 remaining players, that Clayton can be replaced with a cheaper option to fit under cap should they win tonight.

METHOD 3:
Take 2 donuts

The aim of this method would be to attempt to pick the 2 finalists from the remaining 8. Extremely risky, but potentially very profitable in that negative points are potentially not incurred, but you could be giving up ground should 1 of the 2 players face an early elimination.

It would probably be most popular with Price and Wright, but could be adapted to anyone you fancy.
Salary cap constraints are not an issue with this strategy.

I think when trading you need to consider the bonus points on offer to the winner as well. You could be giving these away using Methods 2 & 3.
Hopefully this helps those tomorrow.

I used the word integrity when mentioning donuts before, but am coming around to the idea as a feasible means of trading. It differentiates the way we can approach trading, and who’s willing to take risks.

I’m probably of the opinion that method 3 is not for me at any stage of a competition, but would maybe at times be willing to give method 2 a crack in the future, if I was off the pace and trying to get back on it.

A lot of that will be irrelevant when Searle beats Price tomorrow morning. :p

Not sure I'll try and pick donuts at any stage, as I think there's more points on offer by trying to pick winners. Guess we'll see once/if someone tries it.
