Is Newnes putting his hand up as a walk up start if still a defender next year at around 486k. Kids 22 averaging 90. There's alot of upside here and a few headaches no doubt.

Had him all year also, contemplated traded him numerous times but upgrades on other lines throughout the year meant i never got round to it.

Few cheapies that have a small chance of being top 8-10 defenders next year if they can turn things around or on the flip side, totally derail a good start to the year haha.
Malceski $349k
B. Smith $399k
M. Johnson $410
M. Jaensch $407

This bloke could be anything depending who he plays for and where they play him. J. Carlisle $364k

The only person I would consider right now is Brodie Smith and that is because he has never been in my 2015 side. It would come down to if Danger stayed or left. Rory Laird seems to be flourishing with whatever role he is playing. Could it be Brodie Smith's 2014 role?

Johnson is too old and injury prone. Malceski got a rude awakening when playing in a **** team (and is old). Jaensch is interesting if Danger goes. Carlisle is not supercoach relevant regardless of playing forward or back.

I traded him out Monday so many times... but only because he is fit and getting the ball did I keep him. Not regretting it at all! Well done Jack!

I played Taylor also... now he sits on my bench... but to be honest, I wouldn't even call him decent bench cover... Jake Kolojashni scores consistently higher than Taylor... Premium defender... what a joke.

Is he likely to still be a defender next year?

I will be looking closely at Dylan Shiel, he has a huge ceiling, has progressed steadily throughout his career and with Treloar set to leave he will be relied upon more heavily. He will often be free, with Ward copping the tag. I think we will be paying unders, priced at his 103 average.

Yep agreed. Nice little article on brodie smith last night and why he misses out on midfield time. If dangerfield goes his chances go up. Surely the club will ease thompsons midfield time and let the future take over slowly. The article leaves you thinking he will eventually be a midfielder. Could be priced just under $400k. Def/mid or just def.
Also if eagles get there defenders back i'll take the punt on yeo in defence. Way unders if he looks to have semented a midfield spot in the pre season. 2/3 defenders locked already haha

No to all of them I reckon. None of them amazingly cheap. Carlisle at 364k no way at all, as he is a sook and inconsistent. Looks to be headed to Carlton who will have the worst list in the comp by a mile.

What would you rather Smith/Malceski/Johnson or Shaw/Hodge/Rookie? I went the mid pricers in defence this year and having my worst year in recent memory...

I agree obie. I went with the mid price approach and disregarded brown and I traded out 2-3 players in my defence. I will be looking at a rookie/premium approach next season

Apparently Longer is out the rest of the season and Saints can't really play finals. May as well play young and untested talent and get a decent draft pick.

Any interest in Andrew Walker?

Categorised as a Def this year, averaging 61 before this round, new coach next year and has just kicked four goals in each of the last two games.

Number two pick in 2003, pretty good scoring history (typically 80ish, but averaged 106 in 2013). Not that durable, but will only turn 30 next year.

Oz/others, do you have a view?

Depends what price/position is he likely to be?

If Daniel Menzel plays one or two games this season, will that destroy his value as a rookie for next season?

If Leuey is a first choice ruckman at any club (even Brisbane if Stef Martin leaves), he is a lock for my team at just over 300k.

The GOLDBERGER combo.

Any chance of Leuey getting ruc/fwd eligibility?

Good f4 if he is dpp and a lone ruck at a new club.
