It's not a political opinion, it's a tv show opinion.
Can't see where I mentioned anything political at all.
Would you care to point out where the political part was?
It's not really worth the time, since TV show opinions are off-topic too. You could re-read your own post, without bias, if you're curious and able.

I know you are fairly new here, but insulting a moderator by questioning if they can read, someone who decides what is and isn't off topic and not the regular posters, is possibly not the smartest thing to do.

The McKay pick is outrageous. Compensation picks should be abolished. If you can't get a player to stay, you shouldn't get anything for them.

It makes absolutely no sense to disadvantage EVERYONE ELSE just because North are a basket case. Pick 3, disgusting....

/rant
Yes I agree that pick 3 is extremely rich, but North have played the game perfectly here. It was in the clubs best interest to assess the compensation then decide their next course of action.
I truly believe we would have matched the offer if it was toward the end of the 1st round.
In Northern American sports this is exactly how UFA and RFA systems work. If a side is happy to pay up then the compensation needs to reflect so. The main issue with the AFL's system is giving compensation for unrestricted free agents

If McKay played for Collingwood they would have got pick 19 as compo.

A player cannot be worth pick 3 OR pick 19 depending on the team he plays for. McKay is not worth more just because he happens to play for a poor team.

But the bigger problem is the VFL used this year's CBA to calculate compensation and not next years CBA where all these contracts will actually take place... which will have increased by around 15%. As a result, every single compensation pick so far has been way too generous.

That's just blatant incompetence/manipulation from the VFL.

So Adelaide getting pick 19 for a guy they didn’t even want is VFL now..?
Get the frustration but the incompetence from the AFL has advantages/disadvantaged just about every club in some way.

Let’s not forget then bringing in a rule specifically aimed and stopping Richmond, railroading the bombers into a settlement on the promise it would be the end of it only for WADA to still punish them, and countless other situations.

Don’t disagree there is a bias, and totally get why as an interstate supporter you’d hate it. But calling it the VFL is a stretch given their incompetence usually traverses all state lines.

There certainly hasn't been very many advantages for the WA & SA teams. It's usually disadvantage after disadvantage.

But this is the Trade & Drafting forum so I'll leave that for another time and place.

AFL Trades 2023: Pick 1 chase hots up as Ben McKay compensation pick confirmed
A compensation pick for losing Ben McKay to Essendon has armed the Kangaroos to make a bumper offer to West Coast for pick 1. Will it be enough?
Jay Clark

West Coast wants to take Tongala prodigy Harley Reid with the first pick in the national draft unless North Melbourne is prepared to swap picks 2 and 3.

The Eagles have settled on Reid as their clear top target and were left impressed by his interview at the draft combine last week, with some likening his presence to Hawthorn champion Luke Hodge.

North Melbourne received pick 3 as free agency compensation for the departure of full-back Ben McKay to Essendon on Tuesday, giving the Roos a huge arsenal of draft picks, including 2, 3, 15 and 21 to strike a deal with West Coast.

But any hopes the Roos had of securing pick 1 have taken a hit as the Eagles look unlikely to cough it up unless North hands over picks 2 and 3 in return, setting a high bar for one of the biggest trades of the post-season.

That asking price could be too steep for the Kangaroos, who are believed to be looking at line-breaking left-footer Colby McKercher at pick 2 and dangerous goalkicking midfielder Zane Duursma at pick 3, according to recruiters.

It means Hawthorn could snare speedy small forward Nick Watson at pick 4, the Western Bulldogs snap up jet midfielder Ryley Sanders at pick 5, and Melbourne could look at forward Nate Caddy or key defender Daniel Curtin at pick 6.

There is a belief Western Australian Curtin could be sliding down clubs’ draft orders, meaning the Giants face the prospect of landing Curtin if he falls as far as pick 7.

Another option is for North Melbourne to acquire pick 11 in a trade with Gold Coast and offer West Coast picks 2, 11 and a future first-round pick for pick 1, but that still may not be enough to satisfy the Eagles.

Recruiting sources on Tuesday said it seemed likely West Coast would keep pick 1 rather than trade it out, unless North parted with picks 2 and 3 in one of the biggest pick swaps in AFL trade history.

The Kangaroos have four picks inside the top 21 selections to help strike a deal with West Coast after the free agency compensation for McKay went through as expected on Tuesday morning.

The Roos also have three future picks (from next year) to deal out as part of the AFL’s draft assistance package.

North did not match Essendon’s offer to McKay, which is believed to be less than $800,000 a year. The compensation selection is a reward for the way the Roos have handled McKay’s situation this year, delaying on offering the defender a new deal.

Pick 3 as free agency compensation is a massive boost for North Melbourne, which could have one of the most talented lists in the competition in a few years following several drafts loading up on high-end talent.

However, clubs are certain North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson would love Reid, who is a powerful goalkicker and dominant forward-half ball-winner in the same mould as Dustin Martin.

The Eagles want to take Reid in the belief he is a generational talent and someone they could not pass up after two years down the bottom of the ladder.

Reid told the Eagles he would have no problems moving interstate to play AFL.

Not quite sure you characterise it as not wanting him, we had a two year deal for him, which is probably fair if you consider his past injury history. Can’t blame him for taking a 5 year deal though and you can’t blame the crows for grabbing pick 19 with both hands.
