Don't be surprised if Reid starts at half back like Daicos & Sheezel did - seems like that is the blueprint for talented youngsters to help them adjust to the AFL level. Reid can play multiple positions, Hurn has now retired so an opening there - I could certainly see him getting time in the back half to start.
Fair comment, although his impact on the scoreboard is going to tempt they to play HFF.

Could see Withereden back in despite ball turnover and Maric missing out with Flynn and Williams now rotating through forward line. reality is injuries will hit again if Yeo is any sign. Another red flag from the premiership year where the older players are not fit and training hard and their bodies are breaking down. With a core group of Reid, Ginbey, Hewett, Long starting to build, the kids will be taking over more as we go through a 3 year transition phase.

@Shannon who takes WCE kick outs now?

My biggest issue this year will be the rucks. Gawn vs English the key decision. Not convinced Gawn given age can ave the scores we want through the season, once grundy out of the side, Gawn went big for a few games then fell away hard.

Grundy Crazy Cheap - English Crazy Expensive

Max Gawn Last 6 110 Avg
Max Gawn Season 109 Avg - excludes RD2

Misses three weeks after thinking his season is over and natuarlly comes back with some doubt in his mind.

Last 12 114 avg

Gawn Grundy - Just Lock and Load

Good Luck

Good analysis. To be fair, when lead ruck he average 120 through the season. Yet this has the benefit of stop start being lead where he can rest in other games and protect his body. Can see the pro cons, just not tested in 2023 where he was prolonged no.1 ruck, think they like to protect him. Those last three games were noticeable, 84, 91, 65.

Finals 166 and 82. Given the $130k saving over English you are probably right.

And speaking of Gawn and Melbourne rucks I wonder how Fullarton could fit into the set up there. If he got R/F he could be a playing R3 option at $180-190k assuming he gets a discount. I assume Ben Brown would be struggling to get a game so could Fullarton sneak in the forward set up and be a relief ruck for Gawn?

Well done Ch 9. I will concede that your click bait headline got me. A corked thigh though? If this is your headline for a corked thigh what happens if he twists an ankle? "Reid has ankle cut off so his life can be saved".

The media is just out of control currently

Simmo alluded to it in his presser today, asking the media to cool their jets essentially

Need to remember how oversaturated the market is for both radio and media/print. Either they have dug themselves into a hole and are not aware of the demands of the consumer or for whatever sad reason there is a large demographic that seek afl news throughout the entirety of the offśeason. Majority are puff pieces or pointless comparisons of players between eras, redrafting draft crops, etc as they know it will elicit a response because who can resist the temptation to click or engage?

Also a reminder to consider whether those that provide updates on injury news (whether media or coaching staff) know what they are talking about, if they do not hold an interest or speciality in that area of knowledge. Hypothetically, if intentionally told inaccurate information, would they be able to identify it before putting to print, press conference, etc. Eg- Player X is out for 12 weeks with a ruptured epidermis or torn arrector pili.

Especially for a team in dire straits both on and off the field, financially stricken, forever relegated to the depths of the ladder with no end in sight and a supporter base with nothing to look forward to. That is until the saviour, a top draft pick who will instantly and magically make everything better and bring home a few premierships before he calls time on his career.

The media can be pretty bad. This one was posted yesterday with the headline "Dusty hurt in brutal Tigers camp session."

https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/a...p/news-story/487f7d72346d26a54c62b28e439ffaa6

He copped a cut on the chin and needed a few stitches. Wow.

The same site did also post a rumour yesterday that Bailey Smith is going to Collingwood next year, solely on a photo of him with Nick Daicos in the US during the off season. Not sure how those two things are linked. Nick is a Pies recruiter apparently.

I only read through their articles during work time as it's a time waster. Not a site I go to if I want anything in the way of quality news, as most of it is rubbish, you do get the odd SC relevant article I guess.

CH 9 WWS is not a site I would bother with normally for any information. It was simply that this headline appeared in my newsfeed which has stories from sites all over the place, of which 90% I never bother with. However a playing "going down" as the "nightmare continues" implies plenty of doom and especially with the Eagles injuries of past seasons. In some respects I feel sorry for Harley Reid. I have no idea if he will be the Second Coming of the Messiah or if he doesn't make it at all, but what I do know is that the intense scrutiny the media is putting on that kid at this stage of his career is not likely to make him a better player. And for the record as an Eagles supporter I would clearly prefer he is the Second Coming of the Messiah.

I know BBL SuperCoach has just started last night but has anyone heard any whispers of when AFL Supercoach 2024 team picker will be opening for next season? An earlier thread thought around 15th or 16th December?
