You do it then Ash, let me know how it goes ;)
Haha, I probably don't have the mental and physical scars of others, I seem to recall a few had him around the time of the last SCS catch-up in Melbourne, of which I was not one of them, but I seem to recall it did not turn out too well.

I think at this stage he is a watch, but if he looks OK in the pre-season at his price point, he could be worth a punt given the state of the forward pool.

The team I've been settled on for a couple days

Def
Stewart and Sicily are a coinflip, expect them both average similar, may just be luck that determines who plays more games. Daicos early bye coupled with early tag risks makes me hopeful his price won't go up early, will be my first upgrade target post his first bye
Like most am big on Young and his midfield minutes
Himmelberg has a good scoring history as a defender without ever doing a preseason there, has been training there all this preseason and has said there won't be any role changes for him he's staying down back
Not stoked about the Williams pick due to his injury history, if a cheaper rook announces themselves he will be shifted to them
Rookies are placeholders/who I think are most likely to play at this stage

Mid
Dont buy into the Bont fwd story. Is back in full training and they have plenty of tall fwd options. The other option for M1 is Trac, although I think Clarry will be playing early in the season if not rd0 and Tracs average suffers when he plays
Have heard very positive things about Dawson, Butters, LDU and Steele
Rookies again are placeholders/who I think are most likely to play at this stage

Rucks
I have doubts on Gawn and Grundys ability to solo ruck and get through a season unscathed. People seem to be forgetting that after Gawns initial great run as solo last year he then went on to go at 98 for his last 5 of the year. Grundy did his knee after 6 games last time he had extended run at solo ruck
English and Marshall imo will be R1 and R2 comfortably so am happy to payup
Maley is just there as a Ruck/Fwd swing, but with Xerris injury he may get an early run

Fwds
I'm big on Jackson, has increased his average by around 13 every year. Darcy will be going into the season underdone and misses games every year. Reckon Jackson can go 95 in games with Darcy and 120 in games without Darcy, should equal out to 100-105 avg and unless there is some left field big breakouts that will be good enough for a top 3 fwd.
Don't like JMacrae and his falling average, nothing suggests to me that Bevo will all of a sudden throw him back into a full midfield role, not much value in his price
I need to see Flanders role and Dimmas game style in preseason before being full committed to him. Other option is Baker, who by all reports has spent the whole preseason training as a mid
Reid is Reid
Rookies again are placeholders/who I think are most likely to play at this stage
Don't like any of the midprice ($250-400k) options here but may need to restructure to get 1 or 2 in depending on how the rooks look

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated (y)

You say Gawn averaged 98 for the last 5. I say he averaged 125 for the last 9 when he was solo ruck!

I also share some doubts on Gawn for similar reasons. I still think he'll average 110-115 which makes him pretty good value still, but I'm not as high on him as some seem to be. I just don't see him maintaining 120+ average at his age

Grundy I'm less concerned about, especially for his price I think he's just a must pick and I feel he could push ~110.

I agree with English and Marshall being R1 and R2, and I'm tempted to start Marshall over Gawn, however I expect he's only ahead by a little and the cash saved from going Gawn is hard to pass up.

Hey Lads hope you’re well.

Got this atm, 12K ITB. Green is there over Walsh because I intend to trade Naicos at round 4 to Walsh, want to have Green and Walsh both early and Green has the better early fixtures to start with north and Eagles . Issue is if it means I have to trade Naicos, Walsh would be the better pick independently 60E52C98-181A-4C17-A586-728CE4BEB204.jpeg

Why would you take the potential number 1 defender in Daicos and start him in the midfield as M1?

Two reasons.

Don’t love the mids apart from LDU, Butters, Spray and only want one with an early bye (like Green, Walsh, Touk). Like Sic and Stew as picks, think they’re locked as top 3

Daicos can be traded to Walsh if he’s in my midfield

Very nice setup and great to hear that trading premiums early is being entertained with the additional trades this season rather than trying to avoid the opening round players from the outset which I gather also means they would prefer not to trade them in early in the season which would limit the talent pool and lead to less desirable options and poor self inflicted situations.

cheers.

Yeah I think it can be done in the right situation (sideways trading), Naicos fits the most I reckon because he can be C first 3 weeks and is probably beating other players at his price by 10-15 in those games, he then has Finn tag (reckon he scores 80) Bye (65 rookie score same by as Grundy) and a possible Drew tag (scored 99 vs him last year) - getting his scores then trading to a good value player in Walsh off their bye makes sense to me

Time to post up a first draft for season 2024.

Won't go in to too much detail about the team because R0 could tear any draft to shreds. Like the balance. Unsure about the 2/2/2/5 splits of players across the early byes.

Trying to pull money out for a playing R3 would be an interesting exercise if we get one.

The trades may seem or even be overkill, but the strategy due to the early byes makes this a really interesting season imo.

Hello

As Jenny Morris once famously said 'Youre Gonna Get Hurt'.
I feel Soldo will do it to me, but I can not resist temptation.
The usual villians have been selected and I have gone a 11 premium setup.
  • 4 x Backs
  • 5 x Midfield
  • 2 x Ruck (I have counted Soldo)
Keeping a balance - $99,300 incase of any emergencies.....

Any critique greatly appreciated.

Isn't having Soldo in your starting team an emergency already? :p

Bont to Dawson, Soldo up to Marshall?

Or Bont to Stewart, Daicos into mids, then Soldo up to Marshall.

Isn't Sonsie suspended for the first 2 games of the season?

Yes I know round 0 doesn't count but then you have round 1 where he isn't playing also so hoping he is picked for round 2, then the tigers have the bye in 6 so hard to justify picking him tbh
