Pre-season will tell us more, but maybe a zero premium forward line could have merit this season and aim to capitalise on midfield/defender premium points early, especially on players not having the early bye.

Rucks are an issue thought as this is where the savings to fund the premiums comes from with Gawn and Grundy, would rather have English I think.

Love the forward line. Tried a similar setup with Billings at F1 and is not too shabby.

Daicos, Sicily, Young, Williams, Gibcus, Coffield (Hore, Pink)
Bont, Dawson, Butters, LDU, Reid, McKercher, Sanders, Curtin (Wilson, Sharp, Clark)
Gawn, Grundy (Maley)
Macrae, Jackson, Flanders, Billings, Watson, Macrae (Darcy, Mannagh)

Pretty much a cookie cutter side, but I like it at the minute.

Seen some very nice sides.

Current team without delving too deep into things at this early stage :-

IMG_1690.jpeg IMG_1689.jpeg

As I have stated before, just think Daicos, Sicily & Stewart are the standout defenders, really like Young as a midfielder - think he could be a top 6 defender, has a great bye also.

Bont even at his price I want, great capt option each week/ perfect SC game & have to have him at some point - will not be easy to trade him in during the season.

Butters, LDU & Serong - 3 young SC guns that have ideal draws/ byes.

Gawn/Grundy combo just too hard to resist.

Macrae/ Flanders the 2 fwds I like, Jackson tempting so may change there.

Lots of good fwd rookies this year so loaded up along with Billings if playing the mid/fwd connector role.

Happy to sit on this for now until preseason games.

Hi Jel, you could save some biccies considering rookies like Darcy,
Mannagh, Sharp, Macrae and D.Wilson over Rioli and Berry, Burgess etc
They're all placeholders for now until we can see who is actually going to get a game.
I keep a short list of who I'd like and hope enough of them get picked in Rd1 to fill the spots in my team.

Pretty happy with this for the moment.

I think all my backs bar Stewart have a fair bit of upside.

I like the Bont/Petracca double, i think it will be tough to get them in so id rather spend up and get them to begin with. Butters and Newcombe are young guns and Steele is value if he gets back to his best. Wardlaw has considerable upside. No concern about second year blues with him, he is ready made and is going to make a bigger impact this season.

Rucks are generic.

Im bullish on Rachele, reckon he is a great player that will hopefully see a big uptick in midfield minutes and capitalise on that. Fyfe and Billings dont instill me with much confidence but i cant ignore the scoring potential. I just hope they make it through the first 6 or so games and i can move them on.

Very nice team there, kudos 👍
Thanks, Shannon! It’s all going to come down to rookies at the end of the day.

McKenna, Sanders and Reid are all looking like they’re must haves and Macrae doesn’t appear to be far behind!

At this stage, Curtain, Gibcus, Duursma and Watson can be overlooked for the cheaper guys which allows me to sneak in James Jordan which I’m stoked about.

Curtain and Gibcus surely don’t score that well considering the roles they’ll play and Duursma and Watson playing predominantly as forwards in two of the weaker sides of the comp can’t be relied upon either at this stage anyways!

There are a few things that stand out to me..

1. You have you many speculative picks - Young, NWM, Coleman, Newcombe, Rachelle are all relatively expensive and risky. History says most don’t take the leap to keeper level, and the ones that don’t become a problem where they are at an awkward price point and scoring poorly.

2. Too much money tied up in the $200-350k range - Chapman, Williams, Wardlaw, McKercher, Fyfe, Billings, Reid… it’s a lot of money tied up at an awkward price point. They also have a mix of injury or form concerns. Excluding the obvious rookie picks I just worry that the Chapman/Williams/Wardlaw/Fyfe/Billings group burns you either by scoring poorly, making minimal cash to be traded, or both. Also worth noting none are keepers so it’s a lot of dedicated trades to lock in.

3. Too many D6/M8/F6 types - Young has the potential to be higher than D6 but a lot is depending on his role from the second half of last year continuing at that level. But NWM and Coleman are at best value D6 picks (or trades which is a different issue), Steele and Newcombe feel like M8 types and Rachelle feels like an F6 at best (if not a trade like NWM and Coleman). You usually get the chance to grab value players for these positions across the year so the less you start, the better. Ideally you want as many guys you think will be the top 1-4 positions and then take the options as the present to round out the team or grab the top guys you missed.

Overall it just feels like your cash distribution isn’t optimised and the core nucleus of your “keepers” is too small. There is probably only 7-8 players you’d call keepers (which is being generous to Young and Steele, could be as low as 6).

I would recommend dropping some of the speculative picks - take your top couple at the higher price point and same again for the $200-350k range, and then reinvest the money in getting in either an extra top shelf keeper, or boosting the weaker expensive guys in your team to better selections. I would probably prioritise a genuine F1 and a better D3. Good luck!

Like the Wardaw pick at M6. A little bit of chatter on Guthrie and Crouch, but for me Wardlaw is the best MID price on the board. Trying to get him into my team now at M6.

My side at this stage is way more GnR than i would normally go... This may change but there's looking like a surplus of rookie priced (<210k) players compared to the last couple of years and not too many midpricers i like the look of, especially with round 0 to contend with.

Going set and forget (hopefully) in the rucks as don't have any faith in Grundy but will keep an eye on pre-season and round 0.

Keeping it simple this season, going the big guns early so I can concentrate on the bargains for the rest of the season-well that’s the plan anyway! 😬 I really need to learn how to post pics! 😂

Can some please provide some light on the popularity of Finaly Macrae? I assume he's a placeholder as I am struggling to see it.
