Brown and Draper feel very much picking them because they are there to me, not sure either are actually good picks, raw key back feels very Toby Pink going into Carlton and Port and Brown only got a game in the first place due to injury and hasnt exactly set the world on fire for mine.

Rather just cop the Howes/Hore score this week then get through the two best 18 rounds to follow and then swing Roberts or McKercher to defence.

Apart from Wilson, I dont feel I have any underperformers so unless he gets dropped I might skip Darcy. The 109 drops off and his BE skyrockets next week unless he scores another ton, is 1x80k and 1 x10k price rise worth a trade? This year it might be

If I'm looking at defender premiums under about $570k, am I mad to think about Whitfield? The giants could very well finish top this year and waltz in a fair few games... although their opening draw had been pretty soft.

The other options are guys like Young/Clark/NWM

Not mad at all, he looks back to his best this year and has definitely passed the eye test. One thing I see as a positive is that his scoring is consistent - 108, 118, 124 - so it's not like he's relying on huge spike scores to inflate his average. While it'll likely go up off his bye, he also has relatively low ownership which is a bonus.

I think it's definitely worth it. He's shown he can hit a spike score so even if his scoring drops to the 50-60 point range ongoing he'll still make at least $100k fairly quickly. After that we'll have DPP additions so if need be he can sit at F8 and slow burn cash (even if he is in and out of the team) and should eventually work his way to $150k profit. Most of the rookies we'll probably hold till last will have DPP so I don't think he hurts you - would be different if there was a risk of having too many F8 types stuck forward but that won't really be an issue as we have 2 more best 18 rounds and then DPP additions. I can't really see a reason not to take him this week as the upside is there and the downside won't really hurt you.

Personally just prefer the mid options for the same price but think Whitfield will be a fine pick provided he can stay on the park, opposition attention has to come sooner or later though that would be my only slight concern.

Reid to Draper or Brown and essentially using a boost for it doesnt feel worth it to me unless you are going to cop a donut otherwise, I'd do the other two trades.

I guess the discussion to me is around the "good picks" part. I'm still not sure if I want to trade out Howes, but the appeal to me (for Draper) is the ~90K you bank from moving Howes to Draper, rather than the appeal of cash generation for Draper himself. I wouldn't want Draper (or Pink) on my field, but I still expect they will have a 75+ score at some stage, so will make money. When it comes time to move Mckercher/Roberts into defence (wooo!) - I don't think there's going to be many/any downgrade targets for Howes/Williams etc, even in the mids or forward line. There's probably 6-8 other rookies I would want to be downgrading from as well (who clearly haven't peaked yet) whereas Howes might at least be close to a peak.

I have no interest in Brown for the above reason (make less $ from Howes, actually costs money to move from Coffield/Reid) - I actually think his job security is still in doubt once Grimes comes back too (this week?)

RE: Draper though, his job security is good, I think similar to Pink, he will eventually get to $200K (maybe more) - I still think Pink was a good trade-in last week ( ) but no doubt Draper could drop a sub 30 this week against Carlton. It's a longer term pick though, and more importantly nets $ that can be used this week or next week from someone like Howes.

Less appeal going Coffield/Reid > Draper, but I would still do that too if had spare trades (aka no other priorities this week)

Yeah, I think I can get up to Miller as well, which might be a better pick overall

I think for mine the risk is that you end up with a D7 and D8 that haven't really made enough cash to trade them out but are blocking you from the flexibility of moving DPP guys back into those slots. Howes to Draper frees up $90k but if only makes $50-60k over the next few rounds, you either need to spend a trade on such little profit or you need to wait and potentially lose the flexibility of having a stronger D7 to loop off. The best 18 rounds make it even easier as I'd be staggered if someone had a Draper/Brown score in their best 18, so the pick doesn't really give a points benefit either.
Nothing against slow burn rookies as you can't trade them all at the same time anyway, but I'd rather not have a slow burn in a spot I'm wanting to utilize for flexibility reasons.

Have already pulled the trigger on a 5 Premium Defense in my team, bringing Whitfield in, this round, for Coffield, but now wondering whether it is too early to do that with McKercher and Roberts to move to DPP after Rd 6, which will allow me to upgrade then.

Current Defense is Naicos, Houston, Ryan, Sheezel, Massimo, Howes - Reid, Coffield

So, was thinking of using Coffield for Harvey Thomas this week, and using Fisher/Fyfe to bring in Whitfield, but would I be better off waiting until after Rd 6 and utilising Roberts//McKercher/Massimo then to upgrade and swapping Coffield to a Draper etc. This would mean upgrading a MID/FWD (ie. Butters/Merrett/Rowell/Miller) instead?

Am I going too early for an upgrade in the backline?

Jordon - > Clark via Daicos
Coffield - > Brown

Certainly won't have enough cash to bring in Stewart , Sinclair & Sicily when they drop in the next few rounds.

Wait for D'Ambrosio & Williams to rise enough then upgrade them to defenders or mids via McKercher & Roberts.

Need a couple of spike games in a hurry from a lot of my rookies , just need to be patient I guess for 2-3 rounds and then hope we get enough viable downgrade targets actually appearing
