No not seen this before. Obviously knew there were many intricacies to the scoring, and this certainly shows that. Really good insight. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately doesn't speak on what constitutes pressure/contested situation in the eyes of CD, as I think that is a huge ambiguity I find when watching games as closely as we do. Maybe I should try and be a little less invested in SC haha :p
Or apply for a job.

Been thinking I might give it a crack myself.

On the assumption you have never read this, take a look. First person that I know who has analysed the scoring process. Seriously smart dude and has done strategy podcasts with JD as well.

Explaining the SuperCoach AFL scoring system (statsbyjaiden.com.au)
Very interesting, it's mind boggling to me how they can manage to score each player on the fly in almost real time with so many scoring and penalty variations. I've always wondered how many people are sitting in the room watching each game.

Haven’t been this undecided for a captain in a long time. Adams back has rattled me a bit witb Heeney.

Think Grundy has a much higher floor against Williams. Might go there. Serong also a safe choice? Only got 30 mins to decide hmmm
Yeah I’ve been relatively conservative with my captain picks so far. Think I’m going to take a punt on Grundy this week. If it fails, i hopefully don’t lose more than 20-30 on Gawn VC’ers anyway.

Yep it makes sense, and I don't have a problem with the scoring system for the most part, but don't give us a precise number on their own site, and then adjudicate to a different number. Either give it a range, or adjust the number lower. You create uncertainty, and dishonesty otherwise. If we go into a shop and take something to the register and they tell you you have to pay more than what it says on the tag, we wouldn't go back to that store. Just creates frustration for all players. Like I said for the most part it is a good system but they unfortunately give us actual values of what things are worth, and then award different ones on game day.
Exactly. It creates unnecessary frustration, and it’s not clear what the benefit is.

Think I'll roll with the Heeney VC although wont be able to watch it.
Off to the local footy today.
My son-in-law is matched up on my bosses son. (could get nasty.) :)
If Heeney fails, I'll probably go with Green.

This is probably extremely petty, but…I thought final teams are supposed to be announced 1 hour before the game. This tweet timed at 12.51. It is now 1.10pm and the AFL website still hasn’t published the final teams. As usual, I need to find the final teams and subs from here because the AFL website is so tardy.
perhaps this should be in the Rant thread.

It's because its a proprietary system that Champion Data uses to sell this data to the footy clubs and other interested parties. They don't want to let someone else steal their business by detailing exactly how they calculate the scores.

Not sure what the point is of making Reid tag Heeney, they're probably gonna lose by 70 points anyway, reckon Reid should just be allowed to do his own thing and not have to try to negate someone else.
Teaches him how to find the ball at this level. Heeney has proven he’s a great contested ball winner, so why not give Reid the chance to learn how to get in the right positions to do so in the future?
