Young expected to be back next week - awareness only and cautious approach given the game was iced at that point. Source:

'We got smoked': Concerns for Freo, Eagles downplay win - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1111569
Cheers, still with stewart, hore and reid all on the defensive line, unless Hore is back this week by some miracle, i will have to have a donut or trade to avoid it, but yeah the trade might not be worth it just to save 60 points this week. I'm more concerned Hore Reid both don;t get back into the side, then everytime any of my other 6 defenders are injured it would be a donut.

Was not my plan coming into the round but I’m liking:

Jackson > Daicos
Williams > Walsh
Cadman > Garcia

Planned on using Bonner to get Daicos but Williams has taken priority. Jackson is such a frustrating watch. One of the most overrated players in the league in my opinion. Struggling to see him reaching a 90 average with Darcy in the side. Honestly believe Reid is a premium now although recency bias may be playing a part. I already have Heeney, Flanders, Rankine and Powell along with Jackson and Reid so I’m comfortable trading Jackson. Only caught a bit of the Carlton game but looking at the stats, Walsh is super fit right now. 35 touches with no marks despite having a predominantly uncontested game. Willing to take the risk and the best time to jump on is now.

If one of Nyuon/Drury demand a trade in, I’ll probably have to scrap the Jackson trade.
Still looking at the same ins with Daicos, Walsh and Garcia. Williams still out. Jackson and Cadman have been changed to Powell and Massimo.

Spewing Darcy missed out of R/F status. Adds a lot more value to holding Jackson that I think now outweighs the trade potential.

Powell is an out there move I’m willing to do. Don’t believe he’s a top 8 forward, just has too many of these poor games. Was always a cow with an outside chance of being a keeper. Made 112k @84 for 312k. Not a fail, not a success. Has a 72 BE and decent matchup this week in Adelaide, but letting go this week allows me to grab an extra premium. Would trade Bonner if I could, but I fall 23k short. Has a relatively hard run after that Adelaide matchup before his round 12 bye. I’m going to have to flip at some stage and having the round 12 bye means I should do it sooner rather than later.

I like this move. You inspired some food for thought that I had not considered and agree that Powell probably isn't a keeper on recent evidence. Has me thinking that I might use a boost and go Powell to Macrae in addition to my WIlliams and Sanders to Garcia and Walsh trades that are pencilled in. Think North will be moving the magnets around a lot as they search for improvement. Would do the Powell to Macrae in a heartbeat were it not for Bevo's insistence on playing so many of his players out of position and the fact that Libba was out this week.

While I think he deserves to be in the main CBA rotation, if they flip the magnets around he’s first out. He has a dream role that can’t be any better. He’ll either continue at this rate or lose midfield minutes and likely drop points.

If he had a round 13/14/15 bye I’d be much more inclined to hold but for me, he’s going at some point before round 12 so why not now when it allows me to get Walsh when no other option (bar Jackson) can get me there? If you believe he’s still a shot at being a keeper then by all means hold him, but he isn’t going to be that in my opinion.

I agree. Considering the role he has somewhat underwhelmed since Round 2. I would definitely use him to get Walsh in your position.

Is Jackson a trade? Didn’t love what I was seeing and massive BE sees lots more cash lost
I don't think he is, time to trade was a few weeks ago. He also has a few very good matchups in the next two weeks, on paper. Also have to consider if you think he's close to being a top 6 forward and Shrek's durability history.

He is out of form though. He was mistiming his jumps in marking contests against the Eagles and just generally very fumbly.

Anyone else nervous about Sheezel reportedly getting a role change into the mids?
Thinking I'll watch for a round or two but might consider him to Stewart to free up ~150k in a couple of rounds.

I didn't put much time into it, but going off last year's FanFooty scores (and role definitions) he averaged the following:

Whole season: 2289/23 = 99.52/game
Pure Half Back: 1178/11 = 107.09/game
Mixed roles/Other: 1111/12 = 92.58/game

Digging slightly further, his 5 highest CBA games last year were:
34% rd 10 vs Sydney: 112 sc
27% rd 18 vs Hawks: 103 sc
17% rd 11 vs Collingwood 79 sc
17% rd 13 vs GWS 98sc
7% rd 21 vs Melb 56sc

So not horrendous when he gets decent CBAs, but won't necessarily get all the 'free' touches off HB.

Thoughts?

Don't the figures you cited suggest he is a 15% worse player when not pure half back? So if he's travelling at 127 while playing pure half back that suggests he'd go at 110 playing elsewhere, which would return a whole season average of 114.5 for the outlay of the princely sum of $556k.

Also worth noting that in that Collingwood game he got kicked in the head in the third quarter and was off the ground for a while.

It's a difficult week of trading. Lots of targets to pick from. Paid 660k for Merrett which was probably dumb, even if he keeps going 130 (not happening at half forward). I'm not taking Walsh and his back issues. If it works out great, but my durability risks will go in the forward line, not the midfield. So be it if he averages 120+ and plays every game.

Ditching deadwood in Carroll and Sexton this week for Hugo and probably McAullife. Not sold on him but the 6k will probably come in handy lol. Great VFL numbers and role is good. Hopper is back though so will monitor, and Prestia is 2 weeks away. Figure they could kick out Baker/Graham/Dow and they need to play kids. Will research tunstill. I don't mind Drury but he relies on work rate and not being burnt, his contested game is quite poor. Happier with him in DT.

My whole plan for this year was to get 24 premos. Planning for it is one thing, getting there is another. That means skimping out on D7 and F7 and having DPP cover midfield. I Like Dale for 420k a lot but there are other priorities. The other is Adams and I want to just give him a week. Low tog again (sub in his first game) and went down breifly before coming back. The whole idea of this is for them to all cover eachother so I feel more comfortable taking injury risk up forward.

As for the 3rd trade, I want to bring on our beloved king Jack Macrae. There multiple flags - 1) Hamstring in preseason, 2) regressing as a player 3) Sub/B22 risk? and 4) Libba coming back. A disaster waiting to happen really when you map it out. Because of price and weak forwards ( Caldwell, Zorko, Adams all terrible durability, not paying 550k for Shai or picking any KPF including Jackson), I'm going to take the punt and back him in to peform. It was flagged on SC with DR's interview with a track watcher Macrae played with sore ribs last year, and bevo said in his presser they may have found a role for Macrae.

At this stage I've gone:

Sexton > Garcia
Cadman > McAuliffe
Zilliams > Walsh

How is my team looking? I don't love it but I don't think there are any major weaknesses (aside from burning through tons of trades) ahead of best 22 rounds. Hopeful Sanders can avoid the vest and be a great forward.

I'm seeing McAuliffe named as a likely in from several coaches my question is, why do you see him as preferable to HGarcia who is the same price has DPP and has scored slightly better?

As tempting as it is to start clawing some points back from last week, it seems to me that a triple downgrade might be the best course this week. 3 pretty good rooks in Garcia, Biggie and McAuliffe - and can't really see any on the horizon? Go for broke this week and then cash in.

Would probably mean skipping on Macrae and Dawson, but I think I can live with that? Just given Bont/Trac/English (Parish??) on the horizon.
