Well, Pogacar didn't win. That was a bit unexpected, after losing out in a 3 way sprint. I get the feeling he might win Stage 2 though, before the sprinters get a chance.

A couple of GC riders lost a chunk of time, most notably Bardet, but for those who picked him, I still think he'll be a good chance for stage wins, even if he drops out of GC contention.

Good start to the race. No major crashes at least!

Bit of a strange stage from UAE... Used a lot of petrol when they could have sat back and in the end were a little isolated.

Interesting to see how it all plays out.

Had to go with a slightly different leaderboard format for grand tours due to the amount of selections not fitting easily on my computer screen, hopefully it's still easy enough to follow.

Missed last night (and will miss most of all stages live mid week due to 5AM starts at work). Caught the highlights though, looked like a good one.

Would have been good to see Pog/Thomas finish ahead of the sprinters, but it was never likely.

Looking like a definite bunch sprint finish tonight.

Looking like it should be a good stage tonight, with multiple gravel sections. Suits Pogacar obviously as the dominant winner of Strade Bianche on the same roads, but that's no guarantee he wins. Might need to stay up and just cop being extremely tired tomorrow.

He may not win, but you know he's going to attack!

Everyone else is openly racing for second so they will just let him ride up the road is my prediction.

EDIT: He was happy to win it in a bunch sprint, saving himself for le Tour already.

Too easy. No need to gain more time, the stage win is enough.

Yeah playing it smart... Unfortunately that may make for a boring Giro!

Giro d'Italia Stage 2 Results:

The Pog gains time on everyone else, winning a stage which suits him more than anyone else. Nobody is surprised.

Giro d'Italia Stage 3 Results:

The bunch sprint stage that was almost not won by a sprinter, as previously mentioned attackers got away at the intermediate sprint, and a group of 3 (including Pog/Thomas) broke away with a few K's to go. It did end in a bunch sprint though, which Merlier won.

Giro d'Italia Stage 4 Results:

This one was a bit more of a traditional sprint stage, Girmay crashing out possibly helped the scoring of our riders, as there was one less sprint contender.

Giro d'Italia Stage 5 Results:

A breakaway held on here in another stage ideal for sprinters, Thomas gets Cofidis' first win of the season in May.

Giro d'Italia Stage 6 Results:

A rather boring day points wise, but not a boring stage, with the break holding on. Unfortunately Plapp couldn't take the surprise win, but still a great result for the Aussie. A stage perfect for Pog not won by Pog - I thought he would at least attack, but he was saving energy it seems...

Giro d'Italia Stage 7 Results:

1715474658156.png

Pogacar gaps the field in the ITT in a day that looks like it might determine the GC more than most.

Giro d'Italia Stage 8 Results:

1715475193515.png

Pogacar won what ended up being a mountain top bunch sprint, nullifying any attacks before attacking himself in the last 200m. With a big GC lead already, that's about all he needs to do.

Although not quite as clear a lead here as in the real Giro GC standings, overall leader Dravid currently wears the pink jersey in the Giro comp so far, the Merlier selection/non-selection being the main one that separates the leading pack.

Bonaparte is the first to lose a rider in the Giro so far, as Lutsenko was a DNS in stage 9.

Kooij over Merlier worked out this time. Thought there may be a sprint stage or two that Kooij could survive where some other sprinters may get dropped, he's one of the better sprinters in those hillier stages. So despite dropping a rider, Bonaparte likely leads right now.
