Beau Webster currently fielding in the test match.
With the concussion sub the 12th man almost has to be a batter.

It seems incredibly unlikely that both Inglis and Webster are released. The only scenario I can see that we get both available for round 1 is if they decide to bring Konstas in for some time around the squad.

I would prefer to just have the keeper donut in Doran but I'll more than likely end up with another purely because the Hurricanes play last in round 1.

Do not want to get in the position where Doran is named and we're stuck with him as our captain.
That's my worry as well.

I wonder if a way around it is just to set-up Doran as Flex (then change him to Carlisle , Owen , Stanlake , Wakim) if named in the last game.

Field a proper player @ WK1 and either Gilkes/Harper/Nielsen @ WK2 , all have limited JS even if named Round 1/2 so maybe see who offers best looping options

Or just play a straight up C?

Who are you going to C if your VC fails?

Curran VC - > Zampa C would be my thinking at the moment

Too scared to play a straight up C (just in case)

I guess we need some cheapies to balance out our overall Squad spend or maybe it's better trying to get 17 playing from the start , not sure

Just need to find out about Abbott , Allen , Inglis , Maxwell , Sutherland , Turner , Webster and I might have actually found a side/structure that I am happy with 🤗

If Curran scores 25 in his first game, do you back him in for game 2 or run with Zampa?

If not 25, where is the line? Or, are you just protecting against injury?

I am just trying to get to a sense of how important our R1 captain choice is given I can see most people VCing Curran if Maxwell and Webster aren’t in play.

How many points are worth carrying a donut over a potential cash generator?

Is there a cash generator at wicketkeeper?
If Harper gets some games opening perhaps. Nielsen has been at that price for a couple seasons. Gilkes maybe gets one game at 6, although maybe he grabs the number 3 spot vacated by Maddo.

Guess you could go 2 of the 3 in Hope of snagging a score.

40+ in the first game , I would probably lock it in.

Obviously in the past it would also depends what the Bench Emergency scored but now I am just thinking maybe we could use the C 🍩 in the Flex position (if necessary)

Possibly could start Clarke as WK2 (E) (knowing he is a trade out in Round 2 most likely) then swing Doran back to WK and move someone else to Flex.

Good point about Curran , too early for a POD and VC Stoinis instead ?

Scorchers bowl first , Stars without Maxwell & Webster , might not put up much of a total for Curran to defend.

I was looking at not starting Overton & Short (carrying Bank from the start) and still have 3 nuffies so not sure where all my money has gone.

Mind you that Scorchers batting line-up could be very slim pickings as well.

Speaking of the Stars have they even announced their new captain yet ?

However, the Flex makes a score less essential. If one is snagged, it’s a bonus.

I guess if the Stars aren’t putting up much of a score that helps Curran getting some bonus batting points?

I have often wondered what would happen if I searched for value given role in R1 and carried a heap of cash into R2 to have freedom with trades.

I haven’t been brave enough to try it yet as I keep thinking it will be easier to start with proven quality and if they fail, chase a low BE.

Would the Stars go Kelleway and Merlo for Maxwell and Webster ?

Open with Clarke (before Duckett arrives) and Rogers ?

Or give Harper the gloves instead ?

Nielsen will play before Pope arrives.

Gilkes/Konstas/J Sangha are probably fighting for 2 spots before Rutherford arrives (or they just play a extra bowler) so one of them could survive longer.

Even if they make cash , when/who are you downgrading too to actually use it (chasing the fixture , possibly a nuffie in Round 5)

$ 15-20k might be better off with 2 x David/O Davies/Jewell/Patterson/Renshaw/Turner/Wells etc price type on our bat bench and just park Doran @ WK2

I currently have a side with a starting bank of $ 185,600.00 with the aim of trading 3 Renegades to Overton , Short + 1 in Round 2

MR = 4
MS = 2
PS = 3
SS = 2

Nuffie @ Flex

Turner , Renshaw on my Bat bench
Boyce on my Bowl Bench

Have looked at the Star cheap bowlers but not sure if I am falling for them just because they are cheap.

Could very well be light on for Round 1 DGR players

Round 2 I possibly have 8-9 DGR players.

Round 3 I am worried about especially if we need to bring in Duckett , Maxwell , Webster + BH/SS so keen to start at least 1 Sixer (if not 2 or 3) to try and get a head start

No idea yet if this is the right or wrong approach , could completely change once news comes through this week

That's what I am looking at, the Stars have a great fixture however last year going heavy on their doubles did not pay off as they played so badly. This year in the first round they are playing the Scorchers at Optus and then the Heat, so two of the best bowling sides. Easy to see a disastrous first round for anyone loading up on Stars. Much better value in the Renegades methinks. I am looking at getting value players in round 1 and saving money to be used in rounds 2 and 3 on really good DGR's.

Nothing wrong with being light on DGR players in R1 if you are focusing to go hard on another round. There will be single players who outscore most double players. The challenge will be snagging them. R1 always throws up surprises, both score wise and player roles in teams, so probably as good a time as any to take a punt. We just need to sort the chaff from the wheat in terms of how we let that influence our targeted trades.

I am wary after going really heavy with Thunder players a couple of years ago when they were starting with back to back doubles, then they got bowled out for 15 in R2! It ended OK by seasons end, so trading is what is important. However, shorter season now, so it would be a world of pain if that happened again.

I’m not sure it’s that black and white. If you do down that path, and for arguments sake - I’m considering it as well, all it takes is one dud from a popular player in the XI and it hurts.
I would almost guarantee that there will be multiple dud scores in our 12. I guess in simple terms the XvY is cheap WK plus expensive other on field player v expensive WK and cheap other player.

The WK position is just horrible this year because it seems expensive (with role) or nothing (with risk). No doubt after the first few rounds we will know which one or two we should have taken, but it feels like a real lottery to me this year.

I agree the WKP position is awful. No value options really.

But I think that X vs Y isn’t so simple. The value keeper is someone with an absolutely terrible role. You’re almost conceding them dropping out of your 12. But the value outfield player, could provide a score, which may be crucial if another one of your players drops a real dud or doesn’t play both of their double.

It’s the year of Harry Nielsen. You can’t deny the 8th season breakout player!
