Few Scorchers notes.

Cooper Connolly Coming in at first drop, Connolly batted on the centre wicket for more than an hour, turning a sketchy start into a brisk display of power.

He hit multiple large sixes over the leg side, reminiscent of his final-winning knock in BBL12, against the quicks and climbed into spinner Matthew Spoors and Corey Rocchiccioli, who was called in to help at training.

After the impressive display with the willow, he Connolly pushed his case further, bowling without pain in a few tidy overs.

Scorchers fans would also have been excited to see imports Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings combining at the top of the order for a few fireworks.
Allen, a New Zealander, smoked his second ball for six over long-on against Jason Behrendorff and showed off his creativity with ramps against Jhye Richardson, who was on fire himself with multiple wickets.

Finn Allen smashed long bombs.
He went even bigger in his second dig as the biting sun set, crashing a ball well onto the roof of the player’s pavilion.
Richardson made Jenning’s first knock a brief one, getting him caught at square leg with a short ball.

Matt Kelly also looked to firm his chances of playing on Sunday, used as a first-change bowler behind Behrendorff and Richardson.
Lance Morris didn’t bowl but isn’t carrying injury concerns.

Nick Hobson blew out some cobwebs before Andrew Tye showed he still has it to knock back Turner’s off stump.

Big Bash League: Cooper Connolly firming to play Perth Scorcher’s opener after hand fracture | The West Australian
Reckon it will be Connolly at 3 early which is pretty juicy, sliding down to 6 the second Hardie returns is the concern though.

Think Kellaway/Merlo are dropped before Harper, unless Webster is released I think hes secure for a while.
I think you are right, the Stars batting without Webster and Maxwell is certainly not great although they have Mackenzie who has had a good score today and some recent good Shield batting... Maybe this will be the season where we have all been so burnt by Harper that we don't pick him and he makes some great scores...

I’d say it pretty much comes down to expected role for Sutherland. In order, I would say the preferred roles are:

All rounder
Bowler bowling death
Other bowlers
Top order bats / wicket keepers
Middle / lower order bats

So Brown is in the fourth, or second worst, category. Sutherland is either in the first or the last (ie worst). Given he bowled today, I think it’s more likely the first than the worst, and in any case I think the risk is probably skewed in his favour.

With that said, the Renegades have two early doubles, so erring on including all of the Gades you like the look of is not a bad approach. You just want to make sure you don’t end up with a donut on their bye (eg by having too many on one line), and that they’re at price points that allow you the players you want when you trade them out (eg you can’t get Matt Short if you’re into trading out Steketee/Paris types).

It was just a practice match, but it seems the Stars were disappointing. I wouldn’t panic about that, but if you like Brown and want Sutherland, maybe there is a Star who can make way.
This is a great comment, I agree that having a few Gades is the go, I have five myself at the moment. Regarding having Brown I don't however would definitely consider it and still may do. Besides the wicketkeepers all of my side are bowlers or allrounders except for Finn Allen, I don't see the harm in having a team comprised of two wicketkeepers, thirteen bowlers and allrounders and two batsmen who you think might do well. For me that is Allen and Konstas however I can afford Brown instead of Konstas so could well come into my side as I am tempted.

Just stumbled on a South v North grade t20 played today at the WACA which included quite a few relevant players as well as a couple that have played a bit of first class recently and may end up as local replacement players.

North 8-136
Jayden Goodwin 28 (26), batted 3
Keaton Critchell 2 (6), 1/2 from 1, batted 5
Matthew Spoors 29 (16) & 0/22 from 2.1, batted 7
Corey Rocchiccioli 9 (15) & 0/28 from 3, batted 8

South 1-137
Sam Fanning 63 (41), opened
Joel Curtis DNB
Baxter Holt DNB
Teague Wyllie DNB
Bryce Jackson 2/21 from 4, DNB
Mahli Beardman 1/35 from 3, DNB

I watched most of the game if anyone's got any questions, North was made up of all the clubs North of the Swan River and same for South.
Full scorecards, replays, etc. here:

Keep in mind that Zampa didn’t play today for those trying to predict the Renegades lineup and overs spread based on the practice match today.
The other part is that being a squad game, there's more bowlers picked than you could in a proper game. So it's always tough to be too definitive.

Pretty confident this is how I’ll be lining up for round one.

The only thing I’m uncertain on at this stage is who to pick if Webster doesn’t get named. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 players though I think.

Setterfield is the obvious downgrade option in my opinion. Has the double, should come in at around 6-7 and bowled yesterday which is promising.

Behrendorff could decimate the stars line up & has the double the round after.

Edwards who could be the Sixers opening batsmen & bowl in the power play as well. Doubt I’ll start him round one but sheesh it’d be nice!!!

Other than that, I’m loving the option to loop Harper or Connolly depending on how the first match goes.

I may fade Hardie all together and target Inglis, Allen (Strikers) & Short/Wetherell next round.

Any thoughts, advice, criticism welcome!!!

Pretty solid! My only question would be, if Webster doesn't play, who do you VC. If your (presumably) Stars VC fails in game 1, who do you C?

wow

Hope & Rutherford NOT named in the T20I Squad

Hosein only named for the first 2 matches
Hope playing for the Canes and Rutherford for the Thunder probably means they aren't too relevant for round 1, so at least we don't need to have a will he/won't be here by then conversation.

Probably doesn't change the situation with Hosein too much... will be very relevant for round 3.

Depending when he arrives Hope might prove less stress for those owning Doran 😀

Similarly if Rutherford is here from the start probably affects Gilkes playing , if they do go with Konstas at the top of the order with Warner.

Hosein $ 196,700.00 hopefully those premium Scorchers have risen a reasonable amount after Round 2

I'd also prefer that Hosein doesn't play round 2 and take a bag of wickets at the Showground (which if the pitch is anything like last year, is a distinct possibility!)
