I wonder if Lloyd Pope misses out and they have been told to manage Overton's bowling loads ?

Pope could well have racked up 200+ overs of keeping by the end of this test, so could be quite sore upon arrival to Australia. Might need more than 1.5 days to get over that soreness.

Perry unlikely to play unless there is an injury or possibly multiple injuries to their pace bowlers.

That's actually a lot of work even for a WK.

What’s worse is that England only batted for just over a session, so he hasn’t had much of a rest (batted nearly half the overs too).

For a guy that’s not been a full time keeper his whole test career, it’s something that shouldn’t be discounted if you are looking at him to play the first of the double.

I have both Connolly and Dorff with the E and trying to work out the best path forward.

On option is to pass on Dorff’s 78 and just use Scott as a bat donut to get Connolly. The other option is to take Overton down to Pope (that’s Herbie) and then out Scott on the bowl line.

I would get Overton next round regardless and it’s the same amount of nuffies, so it essentially bowls down to Overton vs 78 points this round.

Any thoughts either direction? 78 feels right on the edge of whether it’s a must lock or not. Overton could beat 78 but might not be by heaps.. could also go unders depending how the game unfolds. So torn!

To go Overton to Pope to secure the 78 you would want to be of the mind that Pope was a player you were pretty interested in anyway. Otherwise, if you rate Overton much higher, then stick fat, or find an alternative route.
Just quick sums off the top of my head, if you rate Overton at 50/game, then keeping Overton potentially only costs you 28 points, but then you have a committed trade next round. Hard to rate Pope, given he has little short game form. You'd want to be rating 40 at least to consider the switch.
Personally, 78 isn't a high enough SGR score to pull your plans apart to get. Those 100+ scores are a different matter.

Love it! Tbh since posting that I've cooled on Pope as he wasn't originally in my plans and to your point, blowing things up to get him just for a 78 isn't always the best move!

I think I'm tracking fairly well - 2/372 at this stage (we'd be identical if I took Dorff as I'd also be 3/450!).
