What is going on here? I don’t understand the thinking.
Yeah it's a little stranger... Worried about Starc not bowling tomorrow? Worried about leaving the Indians too many overs to chase, with a long day tomorrow?

The ease of which numbers 10 and 11 have batted make me wonder how the pitch is going to play tomorrow.

Keep them guessing or maybe our coaching staff have no idea.

You would hope they have worked out how much time they need to dismiss them
Maybe they are playing for WTC in mind?

India are explosive enough that they can chase this down in 94 overs if it goes well.

EDIT - Come out for an over or 2 tomorrow and let goat slog for his 50.

I think we need 2 wins and a draw , wouldn't be banking on winning in Sri Lanka.

Think Rohit might be in for something tomorrow

Exactly, we need wins and we are letting this game putter along towards a draw. Sydney is next up, and it almost always rains there.

If it isn’t something like Starc being injured (which we will find out tomorrow, or at the Sydney selection), I don’t see how they could have thought that Boland striking at 15 when the lead was high 200s or better was advantageous to us.

There will always be a risk of losing, we have to take that risk in order to improve our chances of winning.

I actually disagree, I think the match is perfectly poised as it is, as long as they declare overnight.

My yardstick for this is one of the great Test matches I've ever seen, the Phil Hughes Test in 2014. India needed 364 in 98 overs and it went to about the last half hour with them 50 short, on what I'd argue was an even better pitch to bat on.

If we're talking about the championship, India need wins more than us, and would love to wrap the BGT up tomorrow and not have the stress in Sydney. They're 100% going for it.

If they declare overnight, they’ve missed the opportunity to throw the bat earlier, scoring more runs and/or giving more overs to bowl at India, as well as giving them a difficult session to face, with little upside and fresh bowlers heading into a night’s rest.

It’s the batting tempo in combination with the timing of the declaration decision that often seem internally inconsistent. Australia has done this repeatedly for over a decade.

According to the odds, Australia’s odds of winning just improved with that wicket falling.

Their chances of losing only moved marginally.

92 overs left

Time won't matter here unless the light gets too bad. The last hour rules mean that every over will get bowled in search of a result.

South Africa won by 2 wickets

Were 99/8 (and 96/4)

Rabada 31* , Jansen 16* get them home

Qualify for the WTC Final

Remarkable considering they sent a "C" team to New Zealand

WTC final scenarios: South Africa through, but what about India, Australia and Sri Lanka? https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...-what-about-india-australia-sri-lanka-1467122
Who have South Africa actually beaten though to qualify for the WTC?

Not their fault I know but they have had a very soft draw

India 1-1
New Zealand (A) 0-2
West Indies (A) 1-0-1
Bangladesh (A) 2-0
Sri Lanka 2-0
Pakistan 1-0 *

Never will get a fair system until everyone plays everyone else at least once in the cycle (ideally it should be H & A) , will never happen given India & Pakistan refuse to play each other.

Teams need to play minimum 3 Test series for the WTC (won't happen with the Big 3 dictating the schedule) so they end up playing the same number of Tests in the cycle.

Discrepancy between Tests played in each cycle is a joke

Another fail by Clown Kohli. Might be time to start thinking of life after cricket. Or maybe that is the problem. He already is.

There could have only been millimetres in that.
Kind of silly, has to be 50% below the top of the stumps, the bails height doesn't count. Was definitely 50% below the top of the bails.

Should remove umpires call completely, but guess the tech isn't reliable enough yet.
