Can you go into detail mate?

I assume he still has disposal issues/ lots of turnovers?
Not glued watching the game what I saw he just looks a bit off the pace, not getting a lot of the ball. Mid/wing role I didn't see him get a possession in the second qtr.
What I've seen from Holmes and Day looks real promising.

I want to see more before I think about coughing up 400k for him.
I only saw the 2nd half of this game and agree with @Bigboy that Smith seemed to be second to the ball.
I then have a look at Twitter and people are saying they are impressed with Smith, "lock him in"
Apparently had 11 possessions in the first quarter.

Having a look at the WC v Richmond game now. Halfway through the first quarter.
Getting the vibe that Hewett is the perfect F6. Should make some handy coin and score ok.

Smith slotted straight into Chris Scott's midfield mix in his first game at any level since round 23, 2023, dominating the first quarter at GMHBA Stadium before sitting out most of the second half of the match simulation against Hawthorn.

His comments on Sicily

- James Sicily played the first 12 mins of the 4th after not playing in the 3rd, only moved to fullback when Serong and Battle went off

AFL comments

Hawthorn captain James Sicily got through his first game since undergoing a shoulder reconstruction in October, playing alongside recruit Josh Battle in defence in the first half.

James Sicily moved forward in the second half after Jack Gunston exited the game.
lol, who do you believe now.

Yeah it is a gamble. I seem to either have very good years for Captaincy or very mediocre ones. I think I just have to lower expectations and be happy with a 110 as C until I get any loops running and reinforce the midfield. I do think there's potential that I will have more C options than first thought tells if Oliver gets back to his best and Richards and Rankine break out.
Mate, you can't win SC while accepting C scores of 110.
The top blokes will be averaging like 130 or higher.

Watched the first half of the Cats v Hawks game, in my opinion Max Holmes was the best player on the ground - seemed to be everywhere/covering the ground so well, kicked a goal along with winning clearances. Looked excellent, believe he will be a top 6 defender this season. Only issue is having the same early bye as Mills so need to check the rest of your team for that round as B Smith I think is a lock with his role & ball finding ability - still not a great kick though. Knevitt has been locked in my team for awhile now & I think we can start him on the ground with confidence. Will Day just has so much Bont about him, reckon he could win a Brownlow one day if he can stay fit - couldn't have looked much better.

West Coast Eagles’ top draft pick Bo Allan on track for round one debut after impressive game against Richmond

Mitchell WoodcockThe West Australian
February 17, 2025 2:35PM

Bo Allan has all but secured his place in West Coast’s round one side, with the top draft pick staking a strong claim for a debut with an eye-catching performance against Richmond in Monday’s pre-season opener.

It comes as luckless midfielder Elijah Hewett earned praise from key Eagles recruit Jack Graham for a ruthless pre-season which culminated in his first competitive hit-out in more than a year.

Allan, who was drafted with pick No.16 last year, looked more than comfortable against the Tigers in the latest sign the 19-year-old is more than ready for the rigours of AFL football.

Starting on the bench, Allan came onto the field early in the first of three 25-minute periods where he excelled across half-back, showing composure with the ball in hand and shrugging opponents in the contest.

It’s unsurprising given Allan played 11 league games for Peel Thunder — including the 2024 grand final victory — having captained the WA under-18 side and earning All-Australian honours.

Seemingly destined to be a big-bodied midfielder, Allan was one of the most exciting players out of the Eagles’ 10.2 (62) to 4.2 (26) win at Mineral Resources Park and is looming large to be selected to take on Gold Coast in the season opener at Optus Stadium on March 16.

“Bo’s had a great first pre-season. He’s a classy half-back,” Graham said post-game.
“Even in the midfield he could play, so he’s definitely putting his hand up to play round one.”
Allan’s quick rise wasn’t the only positive out of the contest, with fellow first-round draftee Hewett looking to put his injuries woes behind him to become part of the midfield.

Hewett missed all of last season with a serious foot injury, having battled an ankle injury in his 2023 debut campaign which restricted him to 14 games.

The 20-year-old has impressed in a managed pre-season and started at the first centre bounce alongside co-captain Liam Duggan and Graham in the absence of Tim Kelly, Harley Reid and Elliot Yeo.

Hewett kicked the first goal of the contest, a neat snap from 35m out, having broken from a contest at a boundary throw-in and burning Tigers No.1 draftee Sam Lalor before finishing truly.

It was the highlight among several big moments for Hewett, who looms as a key part of West Coast’s rebuild after being drafted with pick No.14 in 2022.

Graham named Hewett as one of his standouts for the match, alongside wing contenders Tyrell Dewar - who booted a superb long-range running goal - and Jack Hutchinson.

“(Tyrell) Dewar was pretty exciting... watching him take almost a few hangers,” Graham said.

“Hutch (Jack Hutchinson) does some exciting things, and Elijah Hewett, he hasn’t played a heap of footy. He’s had a solid pre-season and it was good to see him get some reward.

“He loves working hard and loves the contest, so I’m glad he’s on my team this year.”

The contest was the first look at the Eagles against real opposition under new coach Andrew McQualter, and the quicker game style was evident in an impressive six-goal-to-none second term.

West Coast applied strong forward half pressure to overwhelm the young Tigers — who only had one player over 24 in the squad — to cause turnovers and catch out their opponents on the rebound.

Hey all - great if we could please use this thread for any discussion about pre-season games / players (and leave the following thread for any summaries about the preseason games / intraclubs etc: https://supercoachscores.com/thread...ing-match-sim-game-notes-non-discussion.5454/)

Having that thread free from discussion is very handy for those that are a bit time poor!
I understand the idea of keeping all the stats and data in one thread, the flip side is that most of the discussion and analysis of that data is then lost. I get that posts can be quoted from another thread, but I doubt most will do that due to it being too hard or just not knowing how.

This thread is also filled up with a lot of non-preseason chatter such as personal team reveals and advice. While it's great to have somewhere for this, I often find myself wading through a lot of these posts, trying to find preseason match/training chat or general data analysis.

I don't mean to be critical of the hard working mods like yourself who make this site happen and understand its impossible for you to make everyone happy. Just want to point out the pros and cons of this approach.

I'm of the same view and have already seen mixed reports of simulations that can't just be instantly replied to and that gets lost without it noted.

Agree. The pre-season thread is important as a standalone thread for discussion - it has a different vibe/purpose to this one, and it’s not worth flicking back and forth.

Taking away discussion from that thread won’t mean things are better organised, it will just mean less good/productive chat. The system worked fine.

Interesting listening to a few content creators who were all questioning Bailey Smith last kick, for his poor DE%.

Had the game on in the background and hard to watch people,. felt a fairly pressured game, but any day of the week, 16 disposal at 44% in probably half a game may be an average score.

I had downgraded him to Sanders, who wasn't as lively last weekend. Tempting to take him down even further to maybe throw money into a 250k def rookie and another good fwd rookie.

Jack Hutchinson is interesting, was fight for the role vs Dewar who was also lively.
