It seems clubs that are not "destination" clubs have to offer significant overs to have any chance of having players change clubs.
I know the Hawks tried offering big deals to McKay and Ratugolea just a couple of years back, and neither wanted to join a team not in finals contention (well, McKay did join the Bombers...). This year the Hawks had Barrass and Battle both decide to join, and without knowing the intricacies of the contracts, likely had to pay far less for them. The more successful clubs get players wanting to join, those struggling have to overpay to be any chance.
Kind of glad we missed both McKay and Ratugolea to be honest. Far prefer who we have picked up instead over the last couple of years.
