Hopefully it goes more smoothly than when Hawthorn did this. Although I think a lot of Port fans wouldn't care if Hinkley left sooner than later.
Definitely feels more like a Horse and Roos scenario than a Clarkson and Mitchell. Basically two decent guys that are team oriented over two psychopathic competitors when it comes to personalities involved.

Albeit team success will probably be the bigger determinant in the situation as it probably was in the other two.

Will never understand this

What happens if they (finally) make the Grand Final this year ?

Although it does say it was Hinkley's choice , or did the club give him that option to say so 🤔

Will never happen as the game plan is not suited for finals footy so will not be a concern and how do we delineate between players, exiting coach, incoming coach and who is most responsible.

Club has put themselves in a self inflicted position trying to imitate the Tigers. Keep holding onto a coach in the hope that he can finally achieve some sort of success and their copycat three flags in five year plan which comes to an end this season with nothing to show for it so far. No ability to make the tough decisions and thus it was “Hinkley’s choice” and still operating with that debt mentality.

Thought you would have a comment to make 😉

Isn't it already Carr's game plan though ? thought he was already "the match day" coach.

Is it the game plan or is the cattle not quite good enough to take that final step.

I remember years ago that Bulldogs side with Cameron , Darcy , Grant , Johnson , Liberatore , Smith , West , Wynd etc just couldn't quite get that ultimate reward.

Finals are scary.

It must be tough coaching a midfield of JHF, Butters, Rozee and Wines...and yet the assistant midfield coach was let go at the end of last year.

Open up the job to all candidates or just go jobs for the boys.

Is ken taking Jordan Hinkley with him?

The game plan has been remarkably similar throughout the Hinkley era; kick it long towards Dixon (or the next biggest forward) and then try to lock the ball in the opponent's 50. Works well against low-middle teams but has been resoundingly picked apart by the better sides, especially those with the confidence to play quick accurate passes through defence to bust open the press and then isolate Port defenders 1-on-1. This is pronounced in finals because you tend to face the better teams, with more adaptable game plans. Add to that the 'finals are scary' mentality that seems to cripple us when under pressure and I've felt we've needed a change for a while.
I'm not sure about the whole idea of succession, have believed that the board needed to make a change seasons ago and that it has either been gutless or happy to accept vanilla.
I'm hoping that Carr can bring in some fresh ideas and make the most of what I believe is a pretty good young list. I'm already looking forward to '26 more than '25.

Be nice to kick to a forward market target , otherwise what are the alternatives ?

Chaos ball or a open paddock , give JHF or Rozee the goal square and clear everyone out.

Still remember how dangerous they were with Schultz at the Top of the 50 & Gray , Monfries & Wingard running amok.

Skill execution/delivery has been a issue going inside F 50 , could be a combo of pressure or the forwards presenting in the wrong spots as well.

Lord was taking himself up (understandably) on the News last night so be interesting if they do go him , Finlayson , Georgiades & Lukosius altogether.

Missed SPP's forward defensive pressure last season.

Butters , Horne-Francis & Rozee are as good as most mids going around so if Sweet can give them first look the majority of times it will be extremely interesting.

1 on 1 defence is a big problem in the modern game that a lot of teams don't seem to be able to deal with , this idea of guarding space and zones instead of a direct player still baffles me , I am old but surely a defenders first prior should be to nullify his direct opponents influence on a contest and game.

This trend of running off their direct opponent and trying to impact a contest 20-30 metres away (and continually failing and being left in no man's land) is so annoying and frustrating to watch.

I guess that's the modern game though.

They may need Finlayson to be in defence for a little with BZT and Rat injured.

I agree with all of what you have said, especially about defenders leaving their man; it can be hard to decide if its a tactic or poor decision-making, and most teams do it.

I do feel like less predictable forward entry, especially to more varied lead up runs, as opposed to kicking to a stationery Dixon (or Lord if Hinkley refuses to change tactics) would make us more dynamic and potentially help to bring in small forwards and whoever of Rozee, JHF, etc. they rotate through into play, especially now the forward line is more mobile without Dixon.

I remember feeling they were really unlucky, walking into some all-time teams in their time together.

Now though, having lived through a Bulldogs premiership, I feel like they were heroes, saving us from that for at least a decade longer...
