Hey Row,

Do you think its ridiculous if i only have 4 trades left after round 13 which would only be used for any LTIs?

I will have a complete team and at least 1 playing rookie in the back, midfield and forward line.
Hey Mike,
That's some aggressive trading! It's ok, if you are happy with your team.

Just like to say Nroo current price is $399,000 :D
Touche'

:D

He did surprise me, I thought he might just keep it above $400k, and with the 31 dropping out of his pricing cycle, I thought he might keep it above that level. $185k drop in 5 weeks! Extraordinary!
To think one could downgrade a Tyson or Polec to NRoo! (via dpp)

Hey Rowsus :)

On the topic of Nroo, I've had him from the beginning and I have no idea what to do with Nroo. On one hand I feel like Richardson is more than content for Nroo to be constantly double teamed to give opportunities to Siposs, Stanley and the rest of the forward. However he is at an all time low in price and I really don't want to trade but I might have to at some point. Which leads me to my question, Do you think Roo can recapture his earlier form or at least average 90+ from here on out or should I trade him to a Wingard or Buddy type?

This is looking like a classic case from last year. Remember?
Travis cloke starts on fire. Boom massive price rise.
Get him get him then flunk. should have traded at peak price no choice but hold now i think or rookie him for the cash

Hey OMW,
I think he's passed beyond the trade out barrier. He's firmly in the trade in zone now. I think you have little choice but to keep him, there's not enough value in trading him out now. I think there's every possibility he can bounce back, he is an outstanding athlete and a champion of the game. The best option might be to loophole him (if possible) until he bounces back.
Thanks for the quick reply. A forward line with Petrie, Nroo, Roughy and Pav will be the death of me I think but it's a POD to most I'm hoping. Lets hope they can regain their form last season!

And the number of Collingwood Sunday games from now on also killed any ideas I had of bringing in Cloke and loopholing him when he scored big.

This may not seem accurate but if we use this ratio on single games it seems a bit more accurate (not saying this is accurate, there are so many flaws in this it’s not funny!)

1989 Preliminary Final: 22 kicks, 10 marks, 8 goals – ‘SuperCoach’ score: 167
1989 v Richmond: 26 kicks, 4 handballs, 14 marks, 14 goals, 2 behinds – ‘Supercoach’ score: 248

Seem accurate enough in terms of those games?

Keen to know what you (Oz), Rowsus and others think of this. Just quickly put this together for some fun, obviously missing a lot of elements (match-winning goals will obviously eventuate in a higher score etc.) but this is what I think is the most accurate depiction of Ablett Snr’s SC scoring. And according to this, Gary Ablett Jnr takes the cake as best SC player of all time/best player of all time. And he shall no longer be known as Son of God, he just is one himself.
I think it is a great attempt at having at go at the query I have.
Two things strike me as I read through that.
1) Players clearly have been trained to tackle a lot more now in general so a footballer from 15 to 20 years back on stats alone is at a disadvantage in straight DT scoring system

2)Also thinking of CD Points ranking system they allocate 3300 points to every game no matter what changes in style of footy take hold at a particular point so the trend towards more possession and more tackles now but less goals. So regardless of whether there were more or less of whatever stats from each era there would be 3300 points on offer for all players in a match. So players get a piece of that pie and Son Of God is grabbing 151 points each match at present of the 3300 allocated over the 44 players in each match. Furthermore when God was playing it would have been 20 each side at one point and then 21 later when interchange expanded to 3 players on each side.
My gut feel is marks back then would be weighted more highly than now so what God missed out on from tackling not being a big stat for him could have been more than made up for with marks and pressure acts... He was brutal to players around him when he wanted to really hurt someone in his way. Anyway, it is a great starting point how you've approached it via using DT stats and rations. It tells me to expect he would have averaged minimum 130 points in 1993 but my gut feel is because of 3300 points still being allocated he must have got an even bigger piece of pie than 130. How much more I don't know. I'll be interested to hear what Rowsus thinks too.

Extraordinary, isn't Oz?!
I'm stunned. Last season I did not start with him for one main reason. I just figured 140 points average was too much to expect again and he'd still be his awesome self but maybe back into 120's region or low 130's. He penalized me badly for the mistake of under estimating that he might still go bang bang in first number of rounds. This year I did start with him but he has embarrassed me more because 151 this year means my doubt on him reaching 140 from 2012 has been blown out of the water. Simply amazing achievement by him.

60% of the SC public had him captain last week. Not just in their team, not loopholed as VC, but Captain.
He totally spanked me for breaking my own #1 selection rule (pick your 2 Captains first), and pushing my money-ball approach too far. I was confident pre-season I might pick him and Pendles up in rounds 6 and 9 for about a total of $100-$150k less than others paid for them. Instead, those 2 set about creating new SC records that just made my tactics look like what they were, ill-considered and a bit stupid. Still, I have learnt a lot about the money-ball approach this season, and next season I won't break rule #1!
One thing I learnt this year is I have underestimated continually how important it is in spending time choosing a captain. I spend too little time on it and as you say it should me maybe no.1 selection rule. I may have to adopt it next year.

Your so called money-ball approach is a worthwhile exercise you've had a go at this year. I know it has not worked out, however, as you say, I'm sure you learnt quite a few things by doing it that others may never grasp that don't take any particular strategy or slant on how they select players at start of season. There is a lot to be said by trying things different ways and getting useful feedback as a result. Thomas Edison had a few things to say about it.

Hey soyy,
given the inconsistency of the forwards this season, bar 3 or 4 exceptions, I think they are 2 of the better options to choose from. Especially Boomer, given North's draw.

Mudflap, it's not a totally terrible plan, I just wonder why you are locking in the trade now (need a Ruck for 18 players?). I can only assume you have 2 trades locked in for next week, and a trade you aren't using this week. It would seem highly likely he will miss at least one more game, between rounds 11 and 23, and there's no definitive way to assess this. It comes down to do/will you have you cover, who that cover is, and whether you trade Sandi out when the missing game hits.

The plan I was using last year would be no good so far this season, but might work for the period you are talking about.
Basically it was:
If someone else was VC, put the C on Ablett if that player scores below 130.
If Ablett was VC, lock in his score as Captain if he scored 125 or higher.

Yes, it means you'd have to use him as the back end of the loophole, and be prepared to bank lower scores than what you would, if he was the front end of the loophole.
