g'day rowsus, is this the right time to pic up nic nat. was thinking would unload Jacobs this week and pocket the extra $153k. nic nat looks to be moving freely and is starting to find form. what do you think he will average from here on in. have 2 upgrades left to complete my squad in Langdon & Langford and plan to upgrade buckley to a premium mid to avoid late outs - swan last week.
Hi Sloth,
I'm going to have to stop short of declaring "NicNat is back!"
His game on Sunday had: Season high tackles (8), equal season high kicks (6), marks (4), contested marks (3), goals (1). That's a number of season highs/equal season highs, and I wouldn't want to rely on him doing that every week.
He looks like he is slowly getting there, and he did play well on Sunday. He also looks like a decent pick up, if you are able to loophole him. I just wouldn't want to be relying on him right now. The possibility for Jacobs owners like us is, swap Jacobs to NicNat even if Jacobs plays, ride out Jacobs price drops, then trade him back in. It would then give us Sandi, Jacobs, NicNat and a non-playing Rookie for loopholing purposes. You get to use the $153k from the trade, pick up NicNat at a low price, and trade Jacobs back in around $50-$60k cheaper. Being able to loophole Rucks might be worth 20-30pts/week. That's not too bad.

Hey Rowsus, would love your opinion on this conundrum. I don't think I'm the only one with it.

O'Brein $102, 400 (Mid)Vs Honeychurch $117,300 (Mid/Fwd)

O'Brien: scored a highly inflated 100 from a half against Carlton in a rare win for Brisbane.
Doubt he'll be sub again for a while?
Mature ager, top possie winner for Brisbane in the NEAFL. (Av 108 DT)

Honeychurch: Been ripping up the VFL (av 85 DT)
Will he ever get a game? Unlikely sub due to Giansicusa putting the vest on each week.
10k more expensive (am cutting it fine with some of my upgrades but I think I'll be fine either way.)

My current set up is

Ablett, Rockcliff, Beams, Watson, Selwood, Murphy, Cotchin, Tyson(Honey (M/F)/O'Brien, Acres)
Danger, Martin, Buddy, Pav, Roughy, Shenton (M/F), (Cameron/Lloyd)

Both downgrades should give me enough $$ to bring Fyfe, Stevie J and Parker in my next 3 trades. So I think Honeychurch is the better option because when my teams completed I will have the swing set open, which decreases the risk of Acres as a loophole.
Obviously if your opinion is that Honey unlikely to get full matches soon then I will go O'Brien.
Thoughts?

Hi Row, I posted this in the trades thread and was wondering if you thought I'd made the right decision.

This in my team as it stands

DEF: Bartel, Simpson, Swallow, Hurn, Taylor, Langford (Martin, Cutler)
MID: Gaz, Selwood, Fyfe, Libba, Beams, Swan, Cotchin, Shenton (Hallahan, Acres)
RUC: Sandi, Jacobs (Currie, King)
FWD: Danger, Dusty, Parker, Pav, Roughy, Petrie (Cameron, Ambrose)

I've bolded players who I don't think will average enough to hold there positions and I'd like to trade.

PROBLEM: I've only got 10 trades left.

So this week, I've gone Langford>Jaensch and will likely go Cotchin>Pendles or Petrie>Buddy/Tex. That leaves me with 8 trades to get 1/1.5 midfielders and (maybe upgrade Rough/Petrie.

Just wondering what everyone else would prioritise in my team. I have a feeling I will have to hold one of Rough/Petrie but I don't see how I can deal with Cotchin for the rest of the season. Also, how many trades do I need to keep for injuries?
I ended up going Langford>Jaensch and Petrie>Buddy. Then next week I'll swap Cotchin and downgrade Hallahan then get Pendles the following week, giving me a complete team in 2 weeks with 5 trades remaining.

I also was wondering if you thought Tex was an alternative to Buddy. The extra 100k would mean I could grab a better defender (maybe Johnson or Hibberd) instead of Jaensch.
Cheers Rowsus :)

Hi there Rowsus,
I have a question for you that you might be able to help me with.
I was looking at my teams value ($13,745,800) and being my curious self I went to peak at the top ranking teams to see what their value is at.
As I scrolled through the top 400 sides I didn't find 1 side that had a higher team value than mine. Now let me tell you this is a major accomplishment for me, in my own mind I have already won this thing :p
Is there anyway that you are able to confirm that my team value is the highest in the competition? My side is currently ranked 328th.
Cheers champ :D

Hi Rowsus

Thanks for the advice last week re Polec > Watson - worked out great!

Back for some more advice if you have time. I have 12 trades and $49K, going for leagues. I'm not sure whether to make any trades this week or hold and wait for O'Brien to be on the bubble (although not convinced he'll avoid the vest). I would ideally like to maintain my mid/fwd link but not to the detriment of my team and trading plans.

It has been suggested that I go Taylor > Walker via Parker this week. Then next week Hallahan > O'Brien and Langford > Swallow. I doubt I'll have much left in the bank but my side would almost be complete. I would eventually need to trade a forward (Tex?) to a premium mid, thus bringing Parker back to the forward line.

Do you have any thoughts?
Hi Bobbie,
I'm glad the Polec trade was well timed for you! :)
I actually don't mind the advice you've been given, my only query is the Swallow trade.
His 2 lowest scores for the season are two of the three games he has played with Bennell in the team. He's averaging 116 without Bennell and 96 with him. 96 is still pretty good, I'm just concerned it might drop from there, if Bennell can actually get himself fit, and on the ground regularly. Aside from that concern, it looks a decent enough plan.
Keep kicking goals, Bobbie :)

Hey Row,

Was thinking KK out for H Taylor?
Just one trade this week, running low on trades and cash.
GCS draw tougher, Geelongs opening up and hopefully Taylor can find some form. Will complete defence albeit not a superb line.
Also save money for my 2 mid upgrades following two, three weeks. Maybe Stevie J and someone else?
Probably Stevie J and rookie (O'Brien?) to come in for Langdon and maybe L Taylor?
After that not too sure where my funds will come for my final upgrade.

Thoughts appreciated as always.
Cheers.

That's a massive team value TMU. Well done. Have you solely been concentrating on increasing team value?

Thanks Rowsus. I actually don't mind the look of my side with those trades. Will look into Swallow and perhaps see what alternatives there are.

Thanks juzzo.
No I haven't been concentrating on increasing team value, just been concentrating on getting the right players in at the right time.
Also picking the right cows.
I just looked at my team value at rounds end & thought to myself geez that is high.
Hoping it goes up even further in coming weeks :D

Another thought Rowsus,

Langdon out of mids, swing Boomer, Danger, Dusty up keeping one of these in mids, then bring in Tex.
Keep KK for a while longer, maybe even a keeper, then only one upgrade of mids to fullish prem side?
While making some cash from the one trade.

Hey Rowsus ,

Thanks for your help thus far .

Grabbed Bartel last week to fill hole in mids until this week. Managed to continue my steady climb - Now ranked 216.
Have the option to swing Bartel back to defence this week if I decide and offload the Langdon but I do have other options.

Option 1 - Acres to O'Brien then Bartel to defence (via Langdon), Langdon to Goddard
2 - Taylor to O'Brien then Bartel to defence (via Langdon), Langdon to JPK (or any mid Premo)
3 - Taylor to O'Brien then Bartel to defence (via Langdon), Langdon to Goddard ($141K left)
4 - Any other Option

B: McVeigh, Swallow, Jaensch, Simpson, Hibberd, LANGDON (Langford, Bews)
M: Ablett, Pendles, Selwood, Fyfe, Libba, Murphy, Beams, Shenton (ACRES, TAYLOR)
R: Minson, Sandi (Thurlow, Currie)
F: Martin, Danger, Gray, Pav, Higgins, Shenton (Ambrose, Cameron)

$72K

Concern is now bench cover (especially bringing in O'Brien). Also a Premo short in fwd and mid lines.
Offloading Acres instead of Taylor I would be able to maintain dpp link either way if needed. Especially when the dreaded GS comes into play

thanks rowsus will definitely be picking up nic nat this week.

what's your thoughts on picking up scott selwood as m9. with his 29 score last week will fall to @ $350k in coming weeks. I like to take a punt & see him has a viable option to upgrade buckley too. this year he has been tagging a lot, but with w coast out of finals contention in the later half of year they may release him to find more of the ball as their other midfielders are just stinking it up. can he avg 90 - 100 from here?

the other option was Andrew swallow who has taken a few games to find form but could pick him up also in a few weeks for @$450k. north will hopefully be winning more games, swallow loves the tackle & contested possessions

put simply looking for the a cheap m9 option with limited trades left and see these 2 guys as the best options.

Hey Rowsus,
I am in a difficult situation and I'm not sure what to do.
I need to get rid of Polec this week, and as I see it, I have 2 options:
a) Taylor -> O'Brien, Polec -> Watson. Leaving me with $42,400
b) Ambrose -> Spina, Polec -> Goddard. Leaving me with $14,000

Obviously, option a) appears to be the better option and the one I'd like to lock in.
However, my only concern is bench cover.
If I trade Taylor -> O'Brien, I not only lose my FWD/MID DPP, but my bench cover in the midfield will be O'Brien and Acres, and I am not so sold on O'Brien's job security.
However, if I trade Ambrose -> Spina, I still maintain that DPP link in my MID/FWD, and whilst Spina most likely won't play, I already have Cameron covering my forward line bench and if Cameron is dropped, I will still have Taylor covering my forward as well as my midfield.

Would love to hear your opinion,

Thanks

Was looking at Daisy - Barlow and Taylor - C Beams (need the second trade to complete the first)

Am wondering if Taylor - O'Brien is the better trade.

I was thinking CB has better JS and could stay as M9-10 but is the extra cash I have left over worth getting O'B instead to facilitate better trades next week?

I only have 12 trades before this round so might have to keep whichever rookie I get in as cover
It really depends on how many more upgrades you need to make. If it's more than one after this one, grab O'Brien, if it's only one, and you have one or two decent cows left, get Beams,

Would like JPK but probably too pricey. Not a real fan of getting Zorko back in and would prefer a Parker (more consistent) or even take a punt on Buddy
Do I finish mids this week and look at fwds week after? Or bring in a Parker or Buddy this week and hold Langdon for one more (although B/E 109 - may lose cash)
Alot of questions I know but your help and suggestions are much appreciated.
11 trades.

Cheers Slammer
Hey Slammer,
no, I am nowhere near sick at looking at your team. I like that you are doing so well.
O'Brien is definitely a risk, if not soon, eventually. The Laidler experience in round 1 showed that a good SC score does not equal good JS. If O'Brien stinks it up this week, he could be gone next week, and then you have a problem.
What if you try this:
Langdon out, Bartel to Def.
Martin/Gray/Danger to Mids.
Franklin in to Fwd line.
It uses one trade to change Langdon to Franklin.
It allows you to wait on O'Brien, and assess his situation next week.
It gives you another week of growth out of Taylor, even though it won't be much.
It allows you to maintain your M/F DPP link, so when you trade Taylor out, you can shift Martin/Gray/Danger back down, leaving Shenton on your Mid bench.
It gets you Buddy (if you want him) before his price rises another $20-$25k.
You may potentially be hard pressed to make a Mid upgrade next week, and may have to go for a double downgrade (Langford and Taylor) then grab a Mid upgrade the week after.
Good luck, I hope you keep climbing the ladder! :)

ps - if you don't like the double dongrade next week (it may put you one precious week behind), and you are happy to risk O'Brien before the bubble, you can always move Taylor up instead of Martin/Danger/Gray, and then do Taylor to O'Brien, keeping your Shenton link.

Hi Rowsus,

Do I loophole Langdon and Hanley for the remainder of the season and downgrade Gunston to Tex Walker temporarily
or
upgrade Langdon to Hibberd and Gunston to Gray/Harvey and ignore the loopholes
Hi tracygrims,
congrats on how well you are doing this season! :)
You are the loophole research man, so you may know the answer to this better than me. My thoughts are, build a strong 22, preferably with a bit of DPP coverage, then worry about how you can strengthen your position with loopholing bench cover. In the end you can loophole an average player, and a slightly better than average player, but I think that generally loses ground to someone who just plays a strong(er) starting 22.
Good luck :)

ps - did we have that Tatts ticket bet on Hanley's average from last week to round 23? ;)

Hey Rowsus,

If you have some time I would appreciate your thoughts on a couple of options for this week. 12 trades before any this week and $350k in the bank

Option 1 (Go for Broke).

Lloyd to Franklin and Roughhead to Watson

This would leave Langdon (D5) and Langford (D6) as the remaining upgrades. (These were always my planned trades). This option only leaves $200 in bank.

Option 2

Lloyd to Shenton and Roughead to Watson

This would leave $220k in bank. I missed Shenton last week and although he has already gone up $70k, his job security and scoring capability is far superior to Lloyd. I'm also concerned with Cuter, Bews, Hallahan, Hunt, Lloyd, Cameron, Currie and Thurlow as my non starting rookies that cash generatuoin is a major problem. And Shention may be the last decend frorward eligible rookie to get.

Option 3

Lloyd to Franklin and Langdon to Malcheski

This option would mean Dangerfield would move into the M8 position (in the short term), Langford would be my only onfield Rookie. In the furture Higgins would be upgraded to a premium mid and Danger would be swung back to forward line. This would leave $33k in bank, with Langford and Higgins to be upgraded with 10 trades remaining.

Would apprecated your thoughts and any other potential options.

Thanks in Advance :):):)
Hey Deeman1,
I like option 2.
I agree, there is a potential for there to be problems in raising Cash in the coming weeks. This option leaves you a good working bank, and brings in the best Money making option available.
Good luck :)

Hi again Rowsus

I've got a similar question as last week when I contemplated trading Polec to K Mitchell. In the end I kept Polec over Higgins :( This week to avoid losing too much money with Polec and because culling a cow would expose me to a poor or non-playing D8/M10/F8 I was considering trading Polec down to Shenton. Then upgrade either Langford to Hibberd/Malceski/Hurn or for better def depth Cutler to Jaensch/Hanley/R Shaw. Only my Mids would then require one more upgrade to complete my team. What are your thoughts on this idea?

This is my team before trades and I only have $18k in the bank

B: Swallow, Simpson, Bartel, Suckling, Enright, Langford (Cutler, Bews)
M: GAJ, Pendles, JPK, Beams, J Selwood, Watson, Goddard, Polec (Taylor, Acres)
R: Sandi, Cox (Currie, King)
F: Danger, Harvey, Martin, Zorko, Gunston, Roughead (Ambrose, C Cameron)

Thanks in advance
Hi minidee,
I like the Polec --- Shenton, Langdon ---> Hibberd/Birchall/Hurn.
The choice of Def comes down to personal preference, and what you might have planned for the extra cash.
Good luck :)

Current Midfield: Ablett, Pendlebury, Beams, Selwood, Liberatore, Watson, Fyfe, Hallahan (Shenton,Arces)

Who should I be looking to get to complete my midfield??

JPK is pricey but performing week-in-week-out, SJ becoming cheaper in the the coming weeks.
I like the idea of SJ next week. He could go nuts with Geelongs draw.
