Hi Rowsus,
I wonder if Martin is worth it. Bringing in a 242k player at this stage of the season for cover. If one has Thurlow or another DPP R/F on the bench I can understand it, sort of, but otherwise not. What do you think?
Hi Courtesans,
it's a really tricky situation. There are a few different things the each individual needs to think about in relation to Martin.
Is it likely your current R1/2 will get through the remainder of the season unscathed? If the answer is yes, there is a good chance, then Martin becomes an unnecessary luxury trade.
Will Martin still be there when Leuey is fit again? Martin's form looks ok, (for now!) and there is some opinion saying Leuey might just be given an early end to his season. I don't necessarily agree with that, and think it will only happen if his recovery isn't happening at a satisfactory rate/level. If Martin is going to disappear Again for the last 4 or 5 rounds, he potentially becomes a luxury trade again.
So the next viable alternative is, do you just save the trade, and keep it up your sleeve in case your R1/2 goes missing? This option works fine, as long as you don't cop another Ruck problem after that trade!
Good coverage trumps "trade" coverage, as it has more longevity to it. The problem is, I am not convinced Martin is good coverage. I think his scoring will likely drop a bit, and I think he might only play one more game after Leuey is ready.
Having pointed out his down side, I will probably trade him into F6/7 this week, just because I am nearly certain I will need Ruck coverage at some stage (Thurlow is my R4), and I will take Martin at the low price, and just hope his JS fits my Ruck needs when the inevitable problem hits.
Given I can use him as a loophole option to Thurlow's FD, his price is so low, and I am near certain I have Ruck problems coming at some stage, I feel he is my best option. I am just worried if I go the "keep a trade for coverage" option, that it will cover one problem, but if another problem hits, I am left stranded. Of course, I could also get stranded, even with Martin, if I get 2 problems and one of them is a long term problem.
I don't believe he is a 2 trade option. If you can reach him using one trade and you have R/F or can "upgrade" a Currie to him without compromising other trades, then yes, I think he's worth it. If it is going to take 2 trades, or compromise other trades, then I would go without him.
Good luck, you are overdue for some!
