With the super elite premium midfielders being so expensive, a lot of coaches will be looking for value from a sub-580K player capable of delivering a 110+ average. I've put a basic summary of the nine most talked about players in this range above - of course there are many more options. Vote in the poll above and discuss below!

I think anyone considering Cotchin has to look at Deledio as well. Averaged 115 to Cotchin's 109 for the last 9 games. Richmond have a great start to the year.

If Lids has M/F DPP then he's definitely going into my team!

I have to say Bennell might be one of the best value picks, especially if he gets DPP. Lock..

I'll definitely have Dangerfield again even if he was just a mid. Basically ignored him the whole season since he was such a common pick so I didn't realise his average had dropped by 7. That was largely due to injury and he still played every game.

I reckon Cotchin will annoy me again if I pick him like this season or do really well if I don't. Probably a no for me due to his average disposal quality.

Danger and possibly Griffen for me.

Swan is scary as a 465k mid only that's for sure. Not sure how i'll be able to ignore him at that price.

"Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan says he has a few people to prove wrong next season after what he described as his own “horrendous” year marred by injury.

Swan admitted he paid the price for not listening to his body or being truthful enough with Magpies coaches and medical staff about his physical condition last season.

Swan managed just 17 games this year, with a foot injury ending his season in Round 22.

But the Brownlow medallist refused to blame injuries solely for his performances and remained confident he could still play football at a “pretty elite level”.

“It was horrendous. I had one good game on Anzac Day and that was about it,’’ Swan said of his frustrating 2014 season yesterday.

“It was putrid. I certainly don’t expect to be like that this year and my main goal it just to be injury-free.

“I’d like to come in after Christmas as injury-free as I’ve been for 18 months. As long as I can do that, I think I could be back to where I was.

“It was obviously frustrating knowing that clearly myself and the coaches expect more of me and so do the supporters.

“I expect a lot more of myself, I still feel like I could play footy at a pretty elite level and I certainly didn’t do that last year.

“I’ve got a few people to prove wrong this year.’’

Read that today and it sounds very promising. I think i would only be keen if he was a FWD though. Is there any more word on whether he will be DPP next season?

With Beams go surely he cant go any lower which ever for a Mid position makes it tempting

I will be starting with Pendles the only thing that is a big draw back is his rd 12 bye which he obv shares with Pendles and Ess, Fre, Suns, Swans (and St K) so potentially Jobe, Fyfe, Barlow, Mundy, GAJ, Prestia, JPK

Scott Selwood and now Dane Swan. Stupid footballers. Really, you don't expect them to be scholars but ***, playing a season injured. It's stupid and it's bad for their bodies, bad for their long term health, bad for their team, bad for their fans to have to watch and bad for us fantasy followers (all in order of importance ;) ). Get smart people.

Jack Steven is an interesting prospect with his first half of the season. Saints only play 1 top four team (hawks) and a total of 3 games (Bombers x2) against top 7 teams from 2014 in the first 16 rounds.

Geez if I was given the chance to play AFL football I would play with an injury even if it meant I had that injury for a whole season. Players play with injuries every week, workers continue working with injury, soldiers fight wars with injury, it's part of life.

And that sort of mentality is why people operate at 50% for 6 months and then instead of missing 2 weeks, miss 4 when things finally catch up to them.

If I was a footballer I'd want to play as many games as I can, to the best I can. Which would mean looking after my body.

I'd like to know how many AFL footballers play with some kind of injury on any given week. Heaps.

Playing "as many games as you can, to the best you can" means balancing the time you can play at 100% with a compromise on the times you can play at 90% or 85%.. and still contribute to the team. Dane Swan playing through injury in 2014 didn't jeapordise his career, an assessment had to be made by Collingwood's medical staff each week and Swan would've had the best advice on his condition and whether it would've meant further damage or keep playing and have an end of season operation.

Put Dangerfield in the same boat and many others who played with some kind of injury in 2014, they'll be back better in 2015.

While we're getting slightly off topic I think a big part of these decisions has to do with the type of injury but at the same time these decisions are generally made by a number of people pretty sure.

On topic, what do we make of Stevie J as an option? Played injured himself last year but has a bit of unique value having burnt so many last year.

If u can cope with the 3-4 games he'll miss suspended and the 3-4 hell miss injured/rested he's a great choice
