As the title suggests, does anyone have a really unique (established) player they haven't seen discussed on here at all? Someone that they're keeping to themselves that they'll unveil round 2?

I imagine this thread will be a poll for the most part but curious to see if everyone is just messing with different combinations of the same 40 odd players or are looking to have that added POD, value, boom player.

I have one that I can't recall anyone talking about and certainly haven't seen in any teams. He is in the 25 to 75 game bracket but hasn't played 22 games in a season yet so not sure if he qualifies as established but most would have him in his teams best 22.

The problem is however he is an awkward priced mid priced midfielder which is why most would have ignored him. I just have a feeling he could lift his average by 30 ppg this year. But I am only about a 30% chance to pick him, if he was a SC fwd or bac he would be a much greater chance of making my team. And no I won't reveal until after Rd 1...

Havent seen much of Rioli. Chapman is v. fit, no injuries, training well apparently, fabulous player was a uber premium only a couple of years back, no upside maybe, no downside either. How is Didak travelling I wonder. Can Nick Riewoldt scale the heights again.

Rioli is locked for me. Stay away from Chapman. No matter how fit he is he will only be playing forward next year (like the back half of 2012) so won't score that well, maybe around 90, without midfield time. Nroo won't improve imo, but I can see him averaging 90-95 next year.

I have 1 sitting in my midfield right now and I haven't really seen anything written here about him. And another two in my Mid and Fwd that have had next to nothing written here. I had Scooter as my sneaky, but now a few have talked him up, and I revealed him 2 weeks ago. Not revealing these other 3 until rnd 2 though! :)

Can't blame you, got scooter in my side because of you. No doubt you have NDS in yours.:)

I had NDS, but now I don't. He's attached to the same yoyo string as about 5 or 6 of my players :)

Out of interest, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, are these players based more on some stats/trends you have looked at or more on gut feel of the players possible improvement?

I must admit that most smokies I have considered over the years is based on gut feel that they are going to have a breakout footy season and hence the SC scores would simply follow from that.

Don't you love that feeling that come 11.45 pm you have tinkered with your team and said to yourself..that's it! Get up it the morning, read some stuff, and all of a sudden nuhh, what about Noel Frickleby instead of Tony Blackbum. Is never done until the first bounce.

Love it! I remember last year in about Jan or Feb in the middle of the night laying in bed I came up with a brilliant* radical strategy. Despite being several weeks before Rd 1 and plenty of time to test it out I ended up getting out of bed at 3am, turn the computer on and test it out!

*The idea turned out to be a shocker.

I had quite a number who my "stats filter" threw up. I looked at each one closely, and went with my gut feel after that. I'm one that believes most gut feels are just sub-conscious decisions, based on your knowlege and experience, that you just can't explain yet. That being the case, there is usually some base to them. You just haven't figured it out yet. :)

I find it interesting that people are taking the risk/gamble in the midfield, where it's generally the place you don't want to gamble. If this is the case, i'm guessing they're a mid pricer or just below and looking to gain 30+ like Philzay has said.

Remember rowsus you don't score points for picking unique players ;)

Never a truer word spoken. But how many teams last season had even 2 out of Beams, Dangerfield, Maric, JPK, NicNat, Jack, and Tuck in round 1?
Unique players can be really good, if you find the right ones! :)

ps - I'm guessing the answer is way less than 0.5%

So true. My team set up is totally up for review in my mind. There is probably only 6 or 7 players I would lock into my 30 squad at this stage. That could change if pre-season injuries or change of roles effect my expectation of what they score in 2013.
Secret players I have up my sleeve will stay up my sleeve....lol..

2nd post here - Jay you are a wealth of knowledge appreciate the site. I often chat away on fanfooty although have found myself more glued to this site.

anyway, i wouldn't categorise this guy as a smokie as he is really a stepping stone type of pick - however after GOD and gibbs i'm looking to cheap it out in my backline - pick up the premos when they drop to around the 400k.

Jordan Russel is someone i'm watching. From what i remember of him at carlton he is a very good user. priced at around the 267k by memory if he gets a regular gig accross half back and is (obviosuly) up and about might be worth a look in the magpie backline.

the idea of a cheap backline atm is the way im thinking. and i just don't want to pay anything 400k up for a premo defender besides GOD and gibbs as it just feels like a waste or a dead pick.

dempster or geary is tempting me as well with the removal of gram and GOD - but have to wait til the NAB to get some bearings on saints backline - geary and his fitness however has me also leaning potentially towards him if he aint playing shutdown.

anyway i've rambled on - Jordan Russel as a smoky!!
