Am liking the look of Danyle Pearce in the backline at the moment, a good alternative to Broughton. Would think he would get a fair bit of midfield time. Playing for a far better team this year at Freo., would not get the attention he did at Port, would think he would be an improver.

Out of interest, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, are these players based more on some stats/trends you have looked at or more on gut feel of the players possible improvement?

I must admit that most smokies I have considered over the years is based on gut feel that they are going to have a breakout footy season and hence the SC scores would simply follow from that.
I break my smokies in to two categories, the forgotten and the rising type. The forgotten are those players who lowered their colours last year and most coaches may have forgotten what the player is capable of. Brent moloney is a perfect example. If you just look at his yearly average you do yourself a disservice. For his scores in games when mark Jamar didn't play are down. Also he often has started the season well only to find he is in a shi*t team again and his scores fall away. If leunberger fires and Brisbane are up,and about you may see a different player.
The rising smokie for me is a player who has shown in the past he can play and put in the occasional big score. The super elite players of today did not walk in and average 120's in their first year. They took time to mature and become consistent. If you take the time to look at someone like a Trent Cotchin in 2011 he averaged
100, but in 2010 he averaged only 78. In both years he had good games, but in 2010 he had five scores under 60. In 2011 he didn't go 'missing'. So my rising smokie is someone who has shown they can score big and maybe ready to mature. Last year it was dangerfield for me. This year it's...........

I have a feeling I know your rising smokie, but there is no way I am going to tell because if I am wrong then I have just given away my 2013 smokie in.....

Brent Moloney? Lol.
Idig he is priced at 67 and will average slightly more than 100 his season imo. A good stepping stone if your not all GNR.
He has never been out of my team. When I compare the role he should be playing at Brisbane, to the role people are hoping Ball can win back at Collingwood, give me BM everytime! :)

Old, unreliable, likely to be nursed/subbed/rested, and slowing down.
No thanks.
This too :p If he had DPP then he might come under consideration but won't be a top 25 mid imo and you want top 10 mids in your team.

exactly!! he SHOULD have been dual position player to my way of thinking...

In fact I would think he could be DEF/MID/FWD :)

I would have drafted him in FDL if he was...lol... but as a pure MID his value as a player gets diminished, especially in SC itself when you can't really afford players that miss more than a few games a season.

Hodgey... priced at 85...discuss
Gee if he's up and firing preseason (which by the sounds of it he won't) he would'be been very very tempting. Too old now to really do anything special but will have the odd monster along with the quieter, sub, managed game.

If he was listed as a forward, it would've been a much tougher choice.

Siposs: From all reports is training to take over Goddard's quarterback role. He averaged 59 in 2012. Take out his 4 sub vests and he averaged 77. St Kilda played him in Goddard's role in R22 & R23 and he scored 101 & 66 for an 83.5 avg. He's young and on the up & I could see him averaging 85+ in 2013 (listed as a FWD in SC).

Agreed I got siposs as my f5 although his best 3 scores last year was against Gold Coast, gws and another average team
Also Geary got desiding between Geary or pederson for d5
Some have big raps on Geary if he gets the same role as he did in the first 4 games last year
