This could change but ive currently gone the reverse pod in the forward line. Not starting with any of Gray, BJ, Lids, Dusty, Swan, Mitchell etc
You must be going with key position forwards. For what it's worth, stack your team with as many midfielder types that you can fit in IMO.

Had Tom Hawkins in and out of my side a few times. Any love for him?

Hey Courtesans,

Nah no KPPs either. Its more due to the fact that I really cant see many if any defensive rookies starting round one. Obviously the nab games will clear that up but even someone like Waters im not sure he will be right for round one. So im looking at going heavier in the backs and more rookies that should play up forward.

Or if they do, will they quickly disappear again? That's why I have Waters sitting at D6, and a back up plan if he doesn't come up. Though, I must say, I think North must have an opinion of Durdin, to have extended his contract already. Will be KPP, and not bottom priced, but might end up with JS, and a small earn.

I currently have 2 non-Mids over $490k in my team, that I haven't seen in any other teams. One of the two surprises me, the other not so much. ;)
Rowsus am I close?

Spot on Row. If Waters plays ill likely pick him but at this stage im thinking he wont. Same as Whitecross..cant see the Hawks risking him at all. Dont know much about Durdin but will keep an eye on him

Def. rookies were here today gone tomorrow last year, McDonald, Langford and Langton were about it. Players like Goddard may not score that well, vest or whatever, but he should be on the park.
I am a bit lost after Whitecross at D5 and that is risky enough. Perhaps cut back on a M5 premium do D4 premium and go Whitecross D6.

Am looking seriously at Adam Treloar from GWS - he could be something special. Also keeping an eye on Ben Kennedy from Collingwood - not much dearer than a top end rookie and if he gets full games may score well.

Nick Riewoldt will be one, normally starts well and Saints have a great run early

If Sam Durdin plays Rnd1, I won't be starting him in Defence that's for sure. He'll be straight into my rucks. :)

Agree on Kennedy but the trouble is he is a black and white vest magnet. Had him locked in my forward line last year when he was a little cheaper and scored well in the preseason but then had to do a quick reshuffle when he was in green in round 1. I would want to see a sustained period where he is not the default sub option.

I'll throw a few darts and see what hits the board.
How about Sandilands or Dahlhaus.
Paul Chapman, Nick Riewoldt.

Sandilands and Riewoldt.
With all this talk of Ruck dramas, I am really surprised at the lack of love for Sandi thus far. Is it because we got him cheap last season, but not this season? He still has the best record of any of the current playing Rucks.
Riewoldt has the draw to go bang, just like he did last season when he averaged 140+ in StK's wins. I'm not sure if I will have the balls to follow though, but I'm hoping to ride him for 5 to 7 rounds, then do nearly a straight swap to a fallen Premium Mid.

I think the reason for not starting Sandi would have to be a number of points;

1. People thought picking him last year was a little risky due to age and being injury prone, seeing as it paid off, they feel they dodged a bullet and aren't prepared to jump into the firing range again when this time the cost is a double barrel shotgun should it fail?
2. Rucks are due to drop in value, you need a 33.333*% HOTA in order to maintain your average which from the limited data I can find says Sam Jacobs has the highest HOTA of any reliable ruckman which is anywhere from 30 - 33% depending on what website you quote. That means if he does the same last year he will score the same or a few % less next year. Sandi has about a 25% HOTA and as his hit out count is quite high, it will be a fair drop in ppg. At best around 5 ppg... combine this with his injury concerns from point 1 and you have to question his selection.
3. Value in injury rucks - Lots of cons here that we all know and lots of pro's but still the Burg, Cruise, TBC and Nic Nat all feature not to mention the theoretical under-priced Minson, Maric and Goldy?

Combine those 3 points and Sandi is a serious POD with little upside you would imagine and seemingly massive downside compared with other selections?

Roo boy could be a great choice but only perhaps as a F5 or F6 as it would be hard to go passed proven scorers like Del and Goddard and bargain picks such as Swan and Titch?

Risks must be taken but I am taking them in the back line this year and going safe options else where I think. Could be wrong though, Roo is a decent pick at that price due to the start and could give you a leg up?

* Just read that Sandi was 2nd in the league with 29% HOTA... while that is great for Sandi, it makes you question any other premium?

Seeing as I got drunk and commented I feel I should go back on topic... currently my only real POD is Kade Kolodjash.... this kid had no preseason last year, which is why a lot people missed him as a rookie selection because he was only "ready" come round 2. He came back a tad under done and still dominated. This is a guy who averaged 30+ possies in the TAC cup and 145 SC points not too long ago, I think with Jaegar under the knife and GAJ going forward a tad more should see him get a bit more midfield time, enough for him to easily go a consistent 85+. Not fantastic, but with this years defense options, must be one to consider?? Or maybe I am just distracting you from Clancee P?

I too have pondered the idea of using NRoo as a pinch hitter. I believe his degenerative knee injury is a significant factor to his performances. Over summer he can manage it better so he is at his peak early on in the season. As the year progress along while playing games it becomes harder to manage. I am not talking about it being a great factor, just a small one they may help see some better scores at the start of the year.

The idea would be to trade him out at the start of round 6 so you get five games against GWS, GC, Coll, Car and Ess. I would want at least 600 points from those five games and ideally have him as VC for one game where he goes bang with 150 odd and hopefully Ablett falters with a 120 that week.

However the risks are large. Firstly you are locking in a trade. I would want to do that in round 6 because by round 7 onwards I will be busy slaughtering the cows. What happens if injuries to the rest of my team take precedence?

Further what if we are wrong and he starts the season with 80 odd type scores. It could put one way behind the eight ball with so many other forward options this year.

At the moment I will say there is a 2% chance I will start with NRoo.
