The Floating Donut has been discussed heavily recently, but here is a example of how the Floating Donut may pan out in SuperCoach 2013.
You should read the following articles in order to understand the Pros and Cons of the Floating Donut:
Using Jake Neade, a Midfield/Forward of Port Adelaide as an example, the table shown below may give an idea on whether the Floating Strategy is for you or not. For the purposes of this example, I have chosen not to use Sam Colquhoun, a Midfield/Defender as it appears he might get some games in 2013. In order to understand the table below, please note:
I've used the popular rookies in this example, namely: O'Mearer(GCS), Viney(Melb), Crouch(ADE), K.Mitchell (PTA), Forward Daniher (ESS), Captains/Vice-Captain Pendlebury/Ablett. Please note that in round 7, Goddard is the token Vice-Captain.
I reiterate for this is just an example and Neade was chosen as the Floating Donut as he has the Midfield/Forward attribute, which allows Daniher to come into play.
I will investigate this more during the pre-season and give an update, when we get a better idea who is likely to get games. Ideally, we would find Melbourne players with DPP, however in this case there is none at rookie priced. At this stage choosing a Melbourne player who is not a DPP should be avoided as I prefer to have 2 bites of the cherry.
For me, all that needs to occur is a few 40s v 80s rookie choices and one or two captain choices in the Floating Donut's favour and it's a win. In rounds where we can not use a rookie with the Emergency Player Loophole, but are required to use a premium/mid-priced player in lieu, all that needs to occur is a niggle and a sub-effected score from a premium-mid priced player and it's a massive win. I'd rather forgo the potential profi of a cash cow per my article: Value of a Cash Cow and hopefully pick the right eventual Captain and right starting rookie each round.
While I thought I could release this article during the pre-season, I thought it would be appropriate to release this article a few weeks early due to SuperCoach being released today!!
The importance of this article is to give you a sample Floating Donut and also to provide you the table so you get a feel of the Floating Donut's draw.
For those who don't feel like having a Floating Donut, I won't try to convince you, but this is an example of how it will work with the popular rookies.

Therefore, at this stage, goodbye Sam Dwyer!
However, note my further comment:
For example, the first game between the Crows (Crouch) against the Bombers (Daniher) in round 1:
EDIT - Will make table more easier on the eyes later today
You should read the following articles in order to understand the Pros and Cons of the Floating Donut:
Using Jake Neade, a Midfield/Forward of Port Adelaide as an example, the table shown below may give an idea on whether the Floating Strategy is for you or not. For the purposes of this example, I have chosen not to use Sam Colquhoun, a Midfield/Defender as it appears he might get some games in 2013. In order to understand the table below, please note:
- C indicates only the Captain Loophole can be used
- 1C indicates the Captain Loophole and 1 player in the Emergency Player Loophole can be used
- 2C indicates a Captain Loophole and 2 players in the Emergency Player Loophole can be used
- The number associated each round indicates the Game Number of each round, note where Games Numbers are closed you need to check the day and/or time of the games to see if they are played simultaneously.

Thanks for that!!
Also, I just realised that we will need to add one more line which is for Forward/Midfield DPP to swing the Floating Donut forward to take advantage of Daniher. For the Forward part of the Emergency Player loophole, we only need to look at games where Daniher plays and fortunately, Essendon play a lot of games early. The Forward/Midfield DPP needs to always play after Daniher and thus we focus on round 2 (Thomas/Robinson),4 (Rockilff), 9 (TBA), 10(Martin).
Note: where it is not possible to play Daniher as an Emergency due to the fixture, we can still use premiums and mid-pricers as our Emergency player and if they play well, they go on the field and if not they stay emergency.

For example, the first game between the Crows (Crouch) against the Bombers (Daniher):
M - Ablett(vc), Pendles(c) [Crouch(E), Neade]
F - Rockliff [Daniher(E), F8]
You get 2 free hits there with Daniher and Crouch.
M - Ablett(vc), Pendles(c) [Crouch(E), Neade]
F - Rockliff [Martin(E), F8]
M - Ablett(vc), Pendles(c) [Crouch(E), Neade]
F - Rockliff [Daniher(E), F8]
You get 2 free hits there with Daniher and Crouch.
- Crouch (Bad), Daniher (Good) - Neade floats to the Forward on the field, thus we get Daniher's score
- Crouch (Good), Daniher (Bad) - Neade starts in the Midfield and we get Crouch score, Daniher we ignore
- Crouch (Good), Daniher (Good) - Neade starts in Midfield (Crouch) or floats to starting Forward (for Daniher). We need another floating donut for each good score if we want the second good score.
- Crouch (Bad), Daniher (Bad) - We don't want either of their scores, so just pick the usual starters and Neade stays on the bench in midfield or forward.
M - Ablett(vc), Pendles(c) [Crouch(E), Neade]
F - Rockliff [Martin(E), F8]
- Crouch (Bad), Martin (Good) - Neade floats to the Forward on the field, thus we get Martin's score
- Crouch (Good), Martin (Bad, Fadeout) - Neade starts in the Midfield and we get Crouch score, Martin we ignore
- Crouch (Good), Martin (Good) - Neade starts in Midfield (Crouch) or floats to starting Forward (for Martin). We need another floating donut for each good score if we want the second good score.
