Anyone have a POD they are(n't) willing to share?

I've had it put to me by an experienced SCer that there will be a mad rush on Eski by R1 as we all decide we can't stomach our defence lines as they are any longer :)

This is after Eski has had a great pre-season so it's a bold prediction thing.
Not sure about a mad rush but I can see an orderly queue developing to him for those reasons, maybe a bit similiar to how many went with Jarred McVeigh last year despite knowing he was at full price.

FWIW I for one are not starting him.

It will be related to the number of good rookie prospects that emerge particularly in the midfield. A shift to 4 prem mids or even 3 (who knows) will free up a lot of cash and that's where we would see speculative picks replaced by the likes of Gray and Eski. Pure old school GnR might emerge and zap all these mid-pricers.

No way I am paying $566k for a guy that has avg'd over 100 twice, once in 2007 and once in 2014! :D

Of course, he will be an upgrade I will be keen on getting though ;)

JPK? Slightly underpriced, is a consistent performer.
He's probably second in line at the moment but call me crazy but i think Fyfe still has improvement in him. At his price i know it doesnt allow much room for error but with that shoulder surgery out the way he might be able to take a few more overhead marks in the forward 50 and snag a few more clutch goals. (not asking for much i know lol)

With that said, i didnt for a second think he'd have 27% ownership compared to Rock's 14!

I noticed today in SC Gold that Robbie Gray is in 29% of teams and Malceski is now close to 20%. I expected both would be PODs of a sort given their prices. Teams must be shedding part of their expensive midfields.
Really surprised by these! Both upgrade targets for me but i guess starting with them eliminates the need to try and get them in later.

Interesting...

So from that i can deduce 5 premo mid is preferred? :p

I'm not seeing Rocky in a lot of draft teams out there, but enough for me to notice so 14% feels about right.

Nah, I dunno

I've been oscillating between 4 and 5 the whole time and have decided to park the whole issue until we see some NAB form on the rookies. Those $200K mid rookies will be key to structure setting I feel.

At the same time i havent seen any Fyfes lol but admittedly haven't been looking too closely but man 27% for Fyfe seems high. I guess the less serious coaches see Fyfe but don't look at the bye week, which is ironically what i'm disregarding.

Yeah for sure. I'm seeing a few more Biggs' these days but i reckon the lack of rookie defenders are gonna be the one that determines our structures. For the first time since day i've changed from a 4-4-2-4 structure...and i dont like it  but it feels safer.

Thought I would throw it out there but I've got Billie Smedts on my radar. 200k def so an expensive rookie, but by all reports he is flying and a strong chance for rd 1. If not many others options pop up over the rest of the pre-season I may select him.

Here is a report off the Cats website from 10th Feb.

Smedts, who has played 33 AFL games since making his debut in 2012, has certainly impressed his coaches.

"He's trained really, really well," Geelong's backline coach, Dale Amos, said.

"Particularly post-Christmas, I think the way he's gone about it and his attitude towards feeling like he's part of the AFL team has been really solid.

"He's been doing a lot of work with Matty Scarlett and we can see the benefits of that already.*

"All the indications at the moment are that he's preparing himself well and giving himself a chance to play some AFL footy early in the year, which is good.

"In footy terms, he hasn't played a lot of footy, so it's an important stage for him.*

"He's in that group of players that we need to really push us forward and establish themselves as senior players.

Just dont think hell make it but if you pick him i hope he does. Hell do something off field and stuff it up as-well.

There's no guarantee that he will play every game and even if he does I don't expect him to score well. I hope I'm wrong on both counts but I really don't think he is the type of player that is SC relevant.
Hopefully one day he is:)

I have a feeling Jordan De Goey will have the best rookie year. Considering the 200k mid-rookie. But noted, a lot to pay for a no-gamer thus far.

2ndly, anyone worried about the Karmichael Hunt stuff for any of the GC players? I would guess Gold Coast sporting circles are ultra-tight.

A good point you make - i'm at work at the moment so no time to look into it properly, but it would be interesting to check the averages over the last few years of the early draft picks (top 10) who start the year 150k-160k+ and whether it's worth choosing one of those to a regular rookie closer to 110k.

There are a heap of POD's this year. Many are still unconvinced on GCS Bennell and GWS Treloar. I'm tempted to try them both. They aren't cheap but they are growing in the right direction. If their fit and right to go R1 you won't get much better POD's than those 2. But you'll pay for it. But this is about difference at the same price point not bargain buys.

Until we deduce the rookies available, particularly in defence, I don't personally see how I can have any more than 4 premo mids and not compromise the balance of my side.

5 premo mids definitely more desirable than 4.
