Anyone considering wellingham?

I know he only has a best average of 81 but considering the eagles don't have the greatest midfield going around he could be one of their key ball movers as well as play up forward and hopefully snag a few goals. Having a good preseason by all reports, got best on last night, DPP, maybe if he was 30-40k cheaper he'd be a bit more appealing.

Worth considering though
I had mentioned him in this thread, I'm keeping a close eye on him. Sounded like he tore up the game against the indigenous all stars. If I were to pick him I would want a certain 90+ average at that price, which I don't know whether he is capable of. Interested to see what he does in the NAB challenge.

He isn't really on my radar but can any Essendon supporters shed light on Mark Baguley? I know nothing about him really but he has nice score improvements over the last 3 years

2012 7 65.4
2013 21 69.3
2014 21 79.6

Is he too old (27) or too much of a role player to go another 10ppg?

He is our best lock down small defender in over a decade. Great tackler, and loves to have shots at goal at training, but if there is a small forward that needs to be shut down he is the best man for the job. Hence not really SC relevant.

Further on Jimmy Bartel the following was included in an AFL website article on Stevie J yesterday:

The Cats are looking to re-introduce some experience into the midfield with Jimmy Bartel and James Kelly training to be part of the mix in 2015.

Bartel played mainly forward last year as the club struggled to find marking targets inside 50 to support Tom Hawkins, while Kelly was impressive off half-back although he could be exploited for pace at times.

"On reflection we had a look at the mix of players we had in our midfield group last year and we thought that if we lost one or two experienced players we were a little bit thin for experience," Scott said.

"Our experience is going to be better by virtue of organic growth, having guys like [Josh] Caddy, [Cam] Guthrie and [Mitch] Duncan, but we thought we had some good options there in our 22 that we did not utilise enough through our midfield."

Looking at Bews as a defence 'rookie'. If he gives me 60's he won't go up much but the defence 'premiums' won't be too much of a jump either.clearly if Whitecross is locked in Hawks 22 (which I don't think he will) he'll be a better option.

What's on your mind that will get him from 38 to 60 this year. It's seems a terrible price to pay for a defender like that when you could pay the same in another position and get a Cripps type who could go for 80.

If Bews was your only option I'd go Nathan Brown and save your $60K.

I have Cripps.

Last season was his 1st playing senior football. There is scope for improvement just through opportunity which he will get. Brown is made of fairy floss, couldn't even get up for intra-club. I would rather pay the extra 60 knowing he'll be playing. Also I said 'looking', NAB hasn't started.

Bews has averaged 10 disposals in 43 VFL games, which is really poor given most AFL listed players dominate at the lower level. Anything more than a 55pt average looks unlikely.

Hey guys! I had successfully talked myself out of Jordan Lewis, it's a spike year, age, etc but I don't know if it's the pursuit of finding value and making those dollars spread a bit further or if I'm starting to make stats look better than they actually are, which is something I've seen Rowsus say from time to time.

Anyway here is something I may have noticed but again, this might be slanted to look good instead of actually being good.

For the first 6 rounds of the season Jordan Lewis averaged 87.83 which is around his career average. Then in the 7th round Sam Mitchell goes down with injury and coincidently Lewis has his best score of the year hitting 118. Another coincidence is Lewis pushed his average to 118 in those 15 rounds (from round 7 to 23). He scored 100 or more 11 times in those 15 rounds (also just missed on one occasion with 99). Sam Mitchell returned in the last 8 rounds but Lewis wasn't impacted at all, only being out-scored by Mitchell on one occasion, when he scored the 99 I mentioned early (Mitchell scored 103).

Sam Mitchell has always averaged better than Lewis, so the question is: Did Jordan Lewis fill the role left by Sam Mitchell and continue in that role even when Mitchell was fit? How can we identify if he will continue in the same "role" during pre-season?

I'm probably over analysing this, what do you guys think? Maybe Rowsus or KLo30 could look at those 15 rounds and see if anything in particular changed.
Hey OP.

I keep taking Jordan in and out of my team, but not because I don't think he'll do well, but because I'm thinking of bringing in a Selwood or Fyfe instead. But as a hawk, I believe I will end up with him in my side.

Jordan's improvement last year came from his running patterns and fitness. He spoke about this later last year as people were asking about his impressive form. Early in the year he found that he wasn't getting to enough contests and not being in the games enough. He worked hard with the fitness and strategic staff members to increase his fitness and improve his running patterns. I think the second half of the year was just down to hard work. Jordan Lewis has always had a great football brain, now he can get around the part more to use his talent more. I actually am not that surprised he has improved, and I firmly believe you will see that Jordan Lewis again this year. He will be the next captain of the hawks.

Any chance Fyfe might be a POD in terms of super premium with the majority who are splurging spending the coin on Rockliff?

I know he's had an interrupted preseason and shares the bye with Gaz/Pendles AND has that start to the year (PT, Gee, Syd, WC from memory) but i'm thinking he's as good as a lock to be a top 8 midfielder so thinking i'll start with him to save me trying to get him in later. Don't really feel 100% about anyone else outside of Gaz/Pendles/Selwood.

JPK? Slightly underpriced, is a consistent performer.

I noticed today in SC Gold that Robbie Gray is in 29% of teams and Malceski is now close to 20%. I expected both would be PODs of a sort given their prices. Teams must be shedding part of their expensive midfields.

SC Gold says it is going the other way. Ownership : Fyfe 27%, Rocky 14%. Rocky would be the POD if that were an x v y.

Others: Joel 20%, Pendles 31%, Ablett 53%

I think Malceski and to a lesser extent Gray would be POD's in teams that finished say top 10,000 last season.

Yep, I would say the attitude is basically "Oh, he is the most expensive player in position x, he must be awesome! In the team he goes."

I dunno .. I reckon the diehards would be disproportionately represented in those that have put teams together at this stage. Diehards are usually top 10,000.

Gray is almost in 1/3 of teams. That's almost as much as Pendles.

I've had it put to me by an experienced SCer that there will be a mad rush on Eski by R1 as we all decide we can't stomach our defence lines as they are any longer :)

This is after Eski has had a great pre-season so it's a bold prediction thing.
