I don't have any uni classes that day so might have to head down for a look I reckon.
will be a crazy atmosphere once again... Indians come out in droves for these matches

I'm waiting until SL win tomorrow before I secure tickets... a washout means SL vs Ind in Sydney instead :(

Looking at matches to finish off the preliminary games it would seem if Ireland and Pakistan was a wash out for any reason then Ireland would make the quarter finals if my understanding is correct. The game is in Adelaide so probably unlikely but still could happen.

Mar 13 - Fri New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 37th Match, Pool A 12:00
Mar 13 - Fri Afghanistan vs England, 38th Match, Pool A 14:30
Mar 14 - Sat India vs Zimbabwe, 39th Match, Pool B 12:00
Mar 14 - Sat Australia vs Scotland, 40th Match, Pool A 14:30
Mar 15 - Sun West Indies vs United Arab Emirates, 41st Match, Pool B 09:00
Mar 15 - Sun Ireland vs Pakistan, 42nd Match, Pool B 14:30

Presently the quarter final match ups look like being the following if all goes as expected over the weekend.

Mar 18 - Wed South Africa vs Sri Lanka, 1st Quarter-Final 14:30 SCG
Mar 19 - Thu India vs Bangladesh, 2nd Quarter-Final 14:30 Melbourne
Mar 20 - Fri Australia vs Pakistan, 3rd Quarter-Final 14:30 Adelaide
Mar 21 - Sat New Zealand vs West Indies, 4th Quarter-Final 12:00 Wellington

BREAKING NEWS
Australian captain Michael Clarke has just confirmed that there is one change to the XI that defeated Sri Lanka last Sunday.
Spinner Xavier Doherty loses his spot in the XI, with fast bowler Pat Cummins returning to the side.
Clarke has also confirmed that there will be a slight adjustment in the batting order, with himself, Shane Watson and James Faulkner all to be elevated to allow for some extra time at the crease.
Tomorrow, Australia takes on Scotland at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

if the correct Pakistan outfit turn up... they can topple the Aussies

either way, a potential India v Pak or India v Aus semi-final is HUGE!

Do Pakistan have enough quality? They're a long way off the Inzamam, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis days for mine.

I'd have Australia at $1.10 to beat Pakistan.

Don't forget Javed Miandad. I don't think Waquar Younis was part of their World Cup win here in 1992. I'm pretty sure Abdul Qadir would have been here and obviously the great veteran Imran Khan was their captain.
This present side is nothing like that. They have a few decent bowlers but nothing that should stop Australia batting order of depth. Pakistan batting order is fairly weak too imho.

they have the bowlers... although Adelaide pitch will offer minimal assistance

$1.10 is fair... but QF stage usually produces 1 upset

QF stage does tend to see such things.
What would be the response back in India if India somehow fell to Bangladesh ?
Not expecting it to happen but not totally off the scale.

Pakistan's best chance of beating Australia is Australia's batsmen self destructing. A poorly judged run out, a Maxwell shot not coming off, Shane Watson being Shane Watson etc...

Otherwise you would think Australia should win comfortably.

Actually was curious how often we have had World Cup Quarter Finals so looked it up.
None of the 1975, 79, 83 , 87, 92, 2003 and 2007 World Cups had a quarter final stage. 1996 and last world cup the only previous times quarter finals were part of the tournament.
Australia has won 4 world cups
West Indies 2
India 2
Pakistan 1 and Sri Lanka 1
England made the final 3 times and never won it.
South Africa and New Zealand have never made the final.
Tipping the last part will change in 2015.

I heard somewhere that England had missed the SF/QF stage 3 times. Does this sound right?

No reason to doubt it.
Don't remember them featuring much in final stages of any World Cup since 1992 World Cup.
I remember the epic Australia v West Indies 1996 World Cup semi-final thriller but the other semi I do not remember but suspect it was India and Sri Lanka and no England. Also do not remember England in any major final stages of any world cups since so no shock to me if it were true. If they were it probably just the few tournament that had quarter finals that easy to forget.

It would be so frustrating/disappointing to be an English supporter of either Soccer or Cricket. No real joy for them at International World Cup level for so many years.
Probably worse than being a Melbourne supporter

Not sure there is much worse than being a Melbourne supporter.
12 flags at end of 1964. Must have been a powerhouse club back then.
Lose great man Barrassi that then goes on to be a coaching legend at other clubs.
You make your first final after 23 year drought then lose a preliminary final after the siren in most horrific circumstances with club great Robbie Flower retiring and no fairytale finish after 23 year drought.
You then go on to make 1988 Grand Final for worst defeat in grand final history at the time and then make another one in 2000 for another horror grand final. Then have lean times and in several drafts have no luck with early draft picks turning into real guns. Not much joy there.
I got two siblings that go for Dees. Always felt sorry for them.

Thanks Oz - I hadn't realized that :p
Seriously though, I was at all three of the games you mentioned above and they were fairly disappointing (to say the least). The seasons themselves were great and exciting to be part of as a supporter, but just horrific endings unfortunately. Its funny... sounds a lot like my SC season last year - lol

Bangladesh made a respectable total against New Zealand of 7 for 288
Mahmudulluh has his second one day century after also scoring one in the match that secured Bangladesh quarter final spot over England.
Cruel luck for Bushrangers in World Cup Premier League as he was our only Bangladeshi player we grabbed in the auctions and did not really hit form until it was too late for us as we did not make semi-finals of the premier league.
