The Jordan Russell is a good ball user comment made me laugh. Obviously not a Carlton fan.

My current structure needs to mid pricers and one is almost certainly Luenberger and I won't consider a mid priced midfielder. I am best to comment on left of field crows players so one I will watch closely is Andy Otten at $276,500. Brodie Smith has his spot in my side at the moment at $347k but if I need some cash then Otten or a similar price player come into consideration.

I think he is a worthy option to consider with an X v Y approach with Bock or other MP defenders. He is injury prone (like bock) but I think a lock for the crows best 22 if he has a run of form in the NAB cup. he has slimmed down and can run through the midfield while playing a mobile 3rd tall rebounding out of defense. Can average 80-90 IMO

If Kyle Martin was basically at any other club than Collingwood he'd be a lock.

The obvious midpricers are Luey, Ball, Bock and Embley from my perspective ...

Not sold on Moloney, Varcoe, Knights etc ...

But i am sure the pre-season will give us a new perspective ...

Bret Thornton anyone? $339k mid/def averaged 63 last year in 7 games, now at GWS where you'd think he get games. Has historicly averaged around 75-85 though.

Actually had him in my team at one stage, but geez he's awkwardly priced. Only if you have a little cash left over, and you can stretch a 65 pointer to Thornton, otherwise, not for me.

Looking in my prospectus in 2009 it showed he averaged 96. He is certainly interesting option for 2013 Supercoach, I would think as a mid pricer he is competing with Bock for a spot. I think it will be no secret though.

Definitely awkwardly priced and definitely only one spot in my squad for that kind of specualtive mid priced defender and it is currently being held by Bock. That being said if they both look good in the NAB cup it could make me do a rethink.

You wouldn't go him and Bock ... given the price if you are going a mid pricer in your backs it would be Bock or Pederson from my perspective ..

Yeah the word out of North is he will be playing more in the midfield instead of coming of the halfback line like in previous years. Would want to check out a few North NAB Cup matches and see his role I reckon.

I have today kind of stumbled over another possible smoky I may consider, a lowish midpricer I may use as a bit of a pinch hitter. Only about a 25% chance I will pick him, really depends on how I end up rating the quality of the rookies after the Nab Cup as to whether I will be brave enough to give this guy a go.

However it does scare me that he has never scored 100 before!
Brandon Ellis??

I know nothing about the guy, but I checked his stats for last year. He played 11 games in 2012, 8 of those games Ryan Hargrave did not play in. So his average of 61 is about what he would get without Hargrave in the team...

Any other reason you think he is due for a breakout?

Number 15 draft pick in 2009, picks up quite a bit of the ball (20+ disposals in 3/11 games last year is pretty decent for a second year player) and seems to be their main rebounding defender which is a good fantasy role.

Reckon there are 3 bargains that stand out( prepared to name - no guts no glory):
Ben Jacobs 309K- will be an absolute gem for Nth (will be in best 22, sensational disposal which dates back to Brighton Grammar games,)
Chris Yarran 362 (based on potentially playing less Defence and more midfield (and less red vests - sub 4 or 5 last year)
Dyson Heppell 450 - moving into midfield, back to where he knows best - killed them in TAC cup whilst playing for Gippsland- Rolls Royce - just needs to continue getting the ball

Also just checked and his 3 of his four 4 worst games (43, 33 and 25) were when Hargrave played. Averaged 71.75 when Hargrave didn't play which is a good sign.

First i've seen him mentioned but really does fit the mould for a break out year. Would've liked to see a bit of improvement in the second year but at a new club, with the right role could have plenty of upside.
