Hey Rowsus, so far I have Goldy locked in my rucks,
Really wanted to know your opinion of having Sam Jacobs this year. I believe he has the highest % of taps going to advantage in the league and with the new rules is he really going to be worth the 620k to get him?
I'm tempted to start Nic Nat as a cheaper option, but who knows what kind of scores we will get with him and he may break down, who knows.
Atleast with having Jacobs I'll be able to have 2 ruckman locked for the year assuming they don't get injured.
Also, not many people are starting Jacobs so I think he could well be worth the risk. Cheers
Hey brad182,
I think people are scared off by the price, and by the history that last years best R1/R2 Rucks rarely back it up the next season with a top 3 finish again. Combine those things, with the insecurity we have with the new Ruck scoring, and I think most are seeing how he goes, and are possibly targetting him as an upgrade option. Having said all that, he could beat history, and be a great pick, and be number 1 again. He's certainly POD'ish right now.

Hi rowsus

One of my favourite things that I enjoy doing in the morning is reading your thread. You provide heaps of good information.

I have a dilemma my team is close to being finalised. I currently have 5 premium midfielders ie Dangerfield sitting at M5 and goldie and nicnat as my rucks.

I am wondering if I am better off downgrading danger to wines or Griffen or swallow and upgrading nicnat to maric. If I completed this move do you think my scoring potential can improve? I'm concerned with nicnat that he may break down throughout the season and I don't expect him to get off to a fast start.

I appreciate your thoughts

Hi Adrenaline,
I'm glad you are enjoying it. I enjoy answering most of the questions I get asked :p
I must admit, I have little confidence in NicNat right now, and I would prefer Maric. The one rider I'd put on that, is I wouldn't want Hampson playing with Maric. If he is, you may as well have NicNat. Short term, I believe Maric and Griffen will outscore NicNat and Danger, long term I think Wines beats Griffen on aggregate, as does probably Swallow. As you may have guessed, I'm thinking Griffen will start ok, given GWS' good draw, but I'm not backing him to play 20+ games.

Hey Rowsus, Do u think its worth downgrading Selwood to Griffen in order to grab brett goodes at D5 for extra insurance just in case defines rookies don't play?

Mr Rowsus do you have any concerns about Bugg at D5 considering he doesn't seem to feature very often in the GWS "best" 22 teams floating around and I get the impression that he is considered more of an adhoc lock down player...albeit a good solid player, just on the fringe. Reason I ask is because I have been tossing up between him and Simon White(CAR) and at this stage have gone with White.
Like your choice of O'Brien. I alluded to him in an earlier post and also have him selected. Should get the nod for the LTI but haven't quite decided what to do if he doesn't...will probably drop him if that's the case.
Have a good day.

Maso old mate. I think there is more chance of St Kilda playing Melbourne in the 2015 AFL Grand Final then there is The Muppets having any trades left come finals time.
Hope this helps - best of luck for the upcoming season.

I also saw you mentioned Bugg was your value pick in the backline. Have you provided anymore insight as yo why this is?

HURN, yes or no Rowsus? Had him most of the preseason but I am now not so sure
I had him for a fair majority of the pre-season but an underwhelming NAB challange along with an article last week saying he had suffered a slight plantar fascia strain has forced me to look elsewhere. The injury is not enough to stop him playing but he has reduced his training loads and it might have an impact on his scoring in games.

It's a pity because I was expecting a big year from him as our new captain.

Thanks mate, I wasn't aware of the plantar injury

Hey Pro,
I think it's possible that the ASADA decision might decide that for you. If there is a lengthy suspension, there are a couple of Essendon option's that might be ok to take. If there isn't, and you lack any confidence in what's available, then Griffen's early draw might make that a quite viable option.

Hey Maso, I'm glad you're enjoying it.
I've got good news, and bad news for the Muppets. I'm predicting a hellish season for nearly everyone, trade-wise this season. Ruck coverage problems, combining with few Rookies with good JS, and Premiums with dicky shoulders and generally poor game counts this season, will have nearly everyone burning through their trades at a record rate.
SC will become very polarised this. Those with a focus on League glory, and confidence in their ability to make the finals even though they've eaten a handful or more donuts along the way, will be giggling in delight come SC finals time, as they still have 3 to 5 trades up their sleeves.
Those with a focus on overall ranking will quickly get that "Oh Oh ......" feeling in their stomach this season. They will keep throwing trades on the fire, burning them quicker than last weeks pay, as they keep telling themselves "It will turn soon, I will stop getting injuries/missing Rookies/suspensions", but they won't. It will be the season of SC carnage, and all across the nation SC'ers will be bemoaning their luck! Most ranking chasers will realise all to late, and decide by Round 15 "I've just got to start eating a donut or two here! I've only got 6 trades left, and there is another big storm on the horizon!". Some will ignore the warning, and keep fuelling the fires of despair with their last trades with a "Well, it looks like my season is ¤#"&ed anyway" approach. The number of ghostships will be so high this season, people will not be talking about that they have one in their League, but how many they have in their League! The crystal ball says the Muppets will throw the brakes on trading in Round 15, with 5 left. They will manage to crawl to the finals with one or two in hand, but the damage has been done. The Muppets come across a crafty League oriented opponent in the second week of the finals. This opponent has weathered a storm of donut induced losses, but come through the trial of fire, and has more than a fistful of trades to strengthen his/her team in the last few weeks. For The Muppets it is all too little, too late, and they are quickly put to the sword by a team with more depth.
Heed the warning people! Be prepared to eat a Rookie donut or two early on. Those trades you are burning to cover a 60-70 point donut in Rounds 4 and 5, will be worth a lot more than that in Round 16!

Gold!
Gave me a good laugh Rowsus reading that.

Sorry Maso.
I have to admit I did not renew my membership as a Muppets supporter this year.
I jumped ship....

Crap, wasn't aware of the injury. Was really keen on him this year. Thanks for the heads-up (although I have NO idea who to replace him with). :)

MrTP, siwel,
He's not locked into my team, and if I can find a Rookie I'm a bit hopeful about, I will probably downgrade Bugg to him. Certainly his history is littered with low scores, but when your playing Def in an easybeat team, that can happen. I think in a lot of games this season he will be playing a different role than previous seasons, and playing in a far more competitive team. The biggest danger with taking a player who you are hoping will shift from a negative role, to a positive role, is the strong possibility of them being thrown/eased back to the negative role again as the season continues. (NVB and Wallis people take note!) Unless you find a well discounted player, you can't have a $300k player that doesn't have a history littered low scores, so that side of him doesn't concern me. I really can see a comparison between KK and Bugg, so if you can use the $50k difference, Bugg has to be an option for those with KK. It was KK I turned into Bugg from my original team.
