Hi Rowsus,

I'm playing for wins in my league this year now, a well established high quality league full of good rivalries. At 57k overall ranking I'm realistic in thinking that any chance of individual honours is long gone already. In my league I'm sitting 4th and have started to find some consistent scoring patterns, however, like you, I've been Fyfe-less all year. Much to my annoyance I have to bite the bullet now and bring him in I think, even at 659k, as If I don't I will fall out of touch with the top 3. I'm annoyed because in order to get him in I need to bring in a non playing donut defender (or hopefully someone that will get a game soon like H Goddard or Scharenberg). Finally to my question ... I need to sacrifice one of Oxley and J Bruce to get this manoeuvre completed; which one would you cull ? I'm leaning towards Bruce. He's been a great cash and points generating POD pick for me but I have my doubts about how much longer he can keep it up especially in a weaker team. Cheers ....
Hi jones711,
I would definitely say Bruce. His good scores have come with 5, 5, and 6 goals, which I can't see him doing too often. Oxley is an outide chance to be a Keeper, and I would think Bruce is no chance.

Hi Rowsus - I noticed your comments about Nathan Brown in the round 8 final scores thread, and thought I would check your latest thinking on him, as I had actually raised this in another thread recently.

My rationale for not starting him under normal circumstances, but being drawn to him this season, was essentially identical to yours.

What are your plans for him now?

With def rookies proving to be much better than we all seemed to expect, and keepers increasingly filling up our def spots anyway, I think Brown may be nearing the end of his SC-useful life again. He's also up 100k or so, and essentially priced at the c. 50s he will likely deliver.

I'm considering trading him to Adamson for a FD and 150k in loose change. My def structure is essentially the same as yours - three intended keepers, Newnes, Oxley, Saad, McKenzie in the mids, and Brown and Lever rounding it out (you have Tosh instead of Lever, obviously).

I've been eying Birchall since pre-season and was about to bring him in, the only issue being his potential injury. Smith is my other def target to complete my line post his bye. I have cover via Lever, and potentially McKenzie, for now.

What do you think? Do you have different plans for Brown? Thanks again.
Hi Darkie,
while our Def lines are very similar, there are two key differences, that push us on different paths. You have Lever, and Brown is the only "tradeable" player on your Def line right now. I have McIntosh, and already have Adamson. I will keep Brown for the job he was picked for. I expected him to be a slow burn to $250k at about Rnd 13 or 14. He got there 5 Rounds quicker, but that doesn't change his job for me. He will sit at M8. I chose him with the intention of keeping him, and I will stick by that at this stage. In your situation, I would trade him to Adamson. You get good dollars and the loophole completed.
Both Birchall and Smith are interesting propositions. I can see Smith in particular being popular in a few weeks, being so cheap. Birchall is always an injury risk, but I keep coming back to him as an option. Of the two, I think I prefer Smith, when bottomed out. It will be hard to have a good exit plan if he doesn't work out though, as he will be too cheap to fix easily. Still probably worth the risk at around $340k though. Smith's "00" score this week is around 98. That means he needs to score 98 this week, to have a B/E of 98 next week. As a rough idea, after he has played Freo this week, his B/E for the Carlton game in Rnd 10 will be approximately 196 - this weeks score. I'm guessing that means it will still be over 100!

Hi Rowsus,

Member for a while, first time poster in this area, so here goes nothing :)

I'm in a position to upgrade my final midfield spot and have narrowed it down to a Sydney player for a few reasons

a) I don't have a single Sydney premo player in my side :(
b) Top 4 team (should be) = bigger slice of the pie = more wins (theoretically)
c) Few young guns who can run all day long

Current midfield is Fyfe, Mundy, Pendles, Neale, Selwood, Lewis, Rocky.

The 3 Sydney players who i'm looking at are JPK, Parker and Hanners. All 3 are now priced very similar

JPK - $581,200
Hanners - $578,200
Parker - $553,000

Not phased about most mids having the rd12 bye. Ignoring averages as Parker has been injured/different position, which one would you pick? I'm leaning towards Hanners for a POD but also averaging really well to date, just worried he may slow down late in the year. Or is my question like how long is a piece of string? Most people would say JPK and whilst I don't think he's a terrible option, I do think one needs several different players to try and get a bit of an edge on the competition.

Interested to hear your thoughts

Many thanks in advance
Hi Misky,
I would pick JPK for safety, or Hannes for a bit of PODishness. Refer to my response to Adrenaline at #4640.
I think it is interesting that you are "locking" your Mid line, when your Def line is in a bit of trouble, and your Fwd line also needs work. Each to their own methods though. :)

Hey Rowsus. Just after your thoughts on Cripps > Simpson (via Saad to mids)? Is this a viable trade or should I be looking at a different defender, or even a mid or forward upgrade? Do you think it's time to trade Cripps? (I have $59,800 in the bank). Cheers in advance.

Hi Rowsus,

I'm looking at bringing in a rd 13 mid premium. Priddis is too expensive but considering each of the three GWS boys (Treloar, Shiel, Ward). In your opinion, who is likely to provide the greatest number of points from now to the end of the season? Alternatively, do you think the wins for GWS will dry up and as a result the SC points will reduce?

Many thanks

I don't like it. It assumes a JS that I just don't believe is there. Lycett has played ok in the WAFL, and while Sinclair did well on the weekend, keep in mind that was against St Kilda, and St Kilda are the easiest team for Rucks to score against. I think he only has to put in one bad game, or string two just ok games together, and Lycett will be back. I don't think you will get your trade or dollars worth in doing that one, I'd leave it alone.
Thanks Rowsus. Back to the drawing board!! Really appreciate your thoughts.

I'm guessing we'll get a good laugh at some of those in the coming weeks! :p
Hello Rowsus

I was planning to bring in Priddis this week but is he good value? His big scores have been against easy teams and his draw gets tougher from now.

cheers

G'day Rowsus,
Brought in Yeo last week. Was looking good until his suspension :(
I guess like the other thousands I am looking at bringing in Rocky this week.
But for who?
I still have Broadbent who I didn't even know was dropped on the weekend.
Can swing Yeo down back and turn him into Rocky. But also have Tarrant, Miller, Cripps, Lonie, Heeney, McIntosh, Krak (probably will get dropped) to deal with.
Would also like Simpson but fall short of Cripps to Simpson and Broadbent to Rocky by $1800.
Thinking Broadbent has to go if he does not play. But after ports loss he may come straight back in.
Then who do I trade for Rocky? Would really only like to use the one trade if possible.
Any thoughts appreciated?

Hey Rowsus

Got a decision to make this week. Two options:
A) Downgrade Lonie and upgrade Cripps to Pendles. Pendles sub 600k for the only time he will be all season imo, getting him this week doesnt mess with my bye structures, although if i dont get him this week i will wait til after his bye. Only issue with this one is i think Cripps could be in for a big one this week with Judd and Gibbs supposedly out along with Sydney supposedly resting players.

B) Downgrade Lonie and upgrade CEY to Wines. If I dont get rid of him this week ill certainly downgrade him next week before his bye. His money making maybe getting close to finished. Wines is someone i think would be a good POD, and score at 108-110 from here on, although if I dont get him this week i dont think ill get him at all.

I dont have Rocky and am adamant on picking him
up after his bye, so he isnt an option this week.

Slightly leaning towards option A, its the fact that i think Cripps is in for a big one Friday thats giving me doubts. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks
MrM

Hey Bobbie,
the Cripps situation is really intrigueing now, isn't it?
Malthouse gone, Judd and Gibbs out this week, does it all inject life into Cripps' SC career?
I traded Cripps out last week after having a closer look at him. He's only averaging 6.3 Kicks a game, but also 14.6 H'balls, 5 Clearances and 5 Tackles. I was really worried about that low kick count, as it is hard to score consistently well with only 6 kicks/game. He also got a really flattering score with his 104 against Brisbane. His score kept rising in the 2nd half, on the back of very few possessions. He faces a B/E of 86 this week against Sydney, and his chances of hitting that have risen considerably with Judd and Gibbs out. The problem is, he also has a "00" number of 100 this week (ie he needs to score 100, to have a B/E of 100 for his next game against Adelaide.) Judd and Gibbs won't be out forever, and it's possible the new Coach will want to pour on ball time and stoppages into Cripps. It's also possible the Coach will do everything he can to win games, which means everything stays near status quo for Cripps. I think he is near the end of his earning potential, and you probably don't lose much by trading him now.
Simpson is priced as a 92-94/game player should be, so you are getting what you pay for there, and that's much better than paying too much for what you're getting! I think a Def is a better match for your team right now, instead of a Fwd.
It's a tough decision, I hope you jump the right way!

Hi hunterpunter,
I completely concur. Priddis is priced to score 127-129, and that's about 10 higher than the best we can expect from him, IMO. If we were confident he'd go over 120 from here you might consider paying the high price, but we're not, so we shouldn't.
GWS is a bit of lottery in their Midfield this season.

It seems like in the easier games, 2 of the 3 can score well, but in the tough games, only one can. Throw in Griffen, Coniglio and Greene as SC point competitors, and you probably want to think they can win another 8 or 9 games, to be confident in one of them returning 110 from here. If I was locked in to taking one of the three, I'd take Shiel. He only has the one score under 100 this season, and 4 scores you should be more than happy with.

Hello Cattleherder,
no Priddis is terrible value right now. He's priced to score around 127-129, and I wouldn't think there was much chance of him doing that. You are probably better shopping around $60-$80k cheaper at the moment, I would think.

G'day Slammer,
I think if you are heading towards using one trade for Rocky, it has to be Broady. Even if he returns, I can see Hinkley wanting to really tighten his Defense, and that means more lockdown type roles. Broady only has one good score in 7 games, and I think I would use him to get Rocky. If you are desperate to get both, then it has to be Cripps and Miller. Both or just Rocky, you could mount argument either way, but if you're not sure, always do the one that uses less trades!

Hey MrM,
I would think option A too. There will be other opportunities to secure 108 type players, but there's only one Pendles, and I agree, this week, and possibly next week, might be the last chances to get him "cheap".

Hi Rowsus: what's your view on Deledio? A few years ago was a staple in most SC midfields; now has the prized DPP but the Tigers have an awful draw. I'm not really sure what to make of the injury shadow apparently hanging over him but seemingly that hasn't affected him the last few weeks.

Also, on another fallen SC star, what is your plan in the event one G Ablett Jnr returns after the Suns bye? Will you be moving heaven and earth to get him into your team ASAP? Or will it be a wait and see approach for the former SC lock-of-all-locks?

Hi Rowsus

Me again! Here to get some more of that Rowsus Wise Wisdom!

I must say that the Melbourne boys last week really hurt my enthusiasm level for my team... Hogan and Vandenberg, players I just only recently traded out, came back to really hurt me... and Lumumba, who I have still kept... continues to disappoint. Made me really look at my team and really think I screwed up. Oh well... onwards and upwards! enough sooking... I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on a few trades and matters?

First off... trading Lumumba... should I? or keep him with the optimistic outlook that he may just improve?

If I were to trade him, I'd be looking at Kade Simpson or Sam Docherty. I have considered Hibberd, but his round 12 bye really sucks for my team, as at this point... I only have 17 players for round 12... AND my next trade option make it 16!

I have a goal next week of trading in JSelwood for either Cripps or Miller (Miller depends on if he makes his BE and Selwood fails to make his). So I have to save a bit of my 345k for that trade. If I were to do the Lumumba to Selwood trade, then I might be also able to do a Tarrant to Franklin trade. DO you think Franklin is good value, and do you see him improving? If I make that Franklin trade, I will go down to 16 round 12 players, but bringing in Selwood would make it 17 (If I can trade out Miller), then I will wait to after round 11 to bring in possibly a Brodie Smith or other after bye players.

Should I take a risk and go down below 18 players for the round 12 bye and hope I can trade in players to cover me after rd 11?

Also, What is your opinion on Cyril Rioli? Personally I love the guy! but do you think he can maintain his average or build on it. Looks fit and confident, and the club and player firmly believe the hamstring is now no longer an issue.

Be great to hear your opinion... Thanks in advance.

Gee I'd love to hold a spot for one G.Ablett to return... SC is not the same without the little champion! (he isn't even that little)

Hi Rowsus,

First time poster in this thread, but a long time lurker ;)

I admire your contribution to SCS and the advice and ever-present wisdom you provide, so would love your thoughts on my trades for this week.

Am looking to cash in Cripps and Miller to two Premium Mids, but I’m not sure as to who at this stage. Current Premium Mids are: Fyfe, Pendlebury, JPK, Ward, Selwood with $288k in the bank.

To date, I’ve considered: Hannebery, Beams, Parker, Lewis, Heppell and Rockliff. Alternatively, I could take Deledio or Harvey and swing them forward when need be. Unfortunately, if I take one of Hannebery or Beams, I’ll only be able to afford Rockliff or Harvey from those listed. However, if I lower the eyes a bit, I’ll be able to take any 2 of the remaining listed (or any other Mid priced within that price range).

After paying around $580k for Ward a few weeks ago, I’m a bit hesitant to take Hannebery as he is perhaps not the best value for money right now. On a similar note, I’m hesitant to take Parker as I could have picked him up a few weeks ago for around $70k cheaper than he is now, even though he is still $30k cheaper than his starting price. So having to pay that additional $70k burns a little... In hindsight, I should have taken Parker when I took Ward.

So was hoping to get your thoughts on what the best combination would be for my team moving forward?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

hi row

just wondering if you think its best to hold lumumba this week or trade him out. he has a good bye and he is fit but he has a massive be. i was thinking of trading him out to a defender or midfielder not sure who and trading out tarrant to rocky. what do you think?

It would certainly throw a spanner in the works if he comes back and immediately starts playing close to what he can, and I suspect the Suns dont want a repeat of what happened with him earlier in the year so if he does return you'd think he'd be ready this time......I think almost every player would have to blow through 3 trades to get him in if you aim to upgrade to him from a cow.

I would love to see him back as well, for footy reasons obviously but also because it would be a shocker to most SCers and could be a season-defining situation.
