Hi hunterpunter, I'm not Rowsus, but I just thought I'd let you know that Kav was named on the field as ruck rover, and Boston on the bench. However, I read it in the paper that Malcho will be the sub tomorrow for the suns. So both won't be subs this week.
Great! In light of this I might do CEY > Boston and Krak > McGovern because I might need McIntosh to play for me next week

The Suns have made three changes to the side that fell to Sydney last week with Charlie Dixon, Jack Leslie and Nick Malceski coming into the side at the expense of injured trio Steve May (groin), Greg Broughton (Achilles) and Keegan Brooksby (calf).

Brooksby injured his calf at training yesterday and was replaced by Malceski who will be the sub for the Suns.

That's where I got it from. Is it believable?
I sure hope so!
Sorry for detracting from your thread Row

If McKenzie isn't chopped off the extended bench, you have 17 players for the week.
I think it gives you two choices.
1) Wear the donut, it is only a Rookie donut, because if Amon was playing, you would have no donut.
2) CEY out, Saad up, and take your pick of: McGovern, H Taylor, Enright.

I wouldn't lock in the trades for the next 2 weeks just yet. Unless you are dead keen to use 3 trades next week, and you want the cash ready to do it, then you need to go Saad to A Pearce this week to be ready. You'd really need to choose out of Cripps and Saad, so I went the Saad option.
Thanks so much mate. Think i will go the saad - pearce option. who do you think i should get for CEY or you saying keep him?
Now that McKenzie is out, I think you need to eat the donut, as it is only 50-60 points, or roll the dice on CEY to Neal-Bullen/Stretch.

Thanks for that. So you're sugesting CEY to Hamling via Saad?

How about getting greedy and doing two downgrades using both CEY and McIntosh? I could grab Hamling and either Boston or Kavanagh - not sure who to choose?

Also, is it crazy to do an upgrade this week? Tempted to offload Clark but the only decent options are Buddy or McG. Probably smarter to wait until after round 12?
No, it's not crazy to do an upgrade at all, as long as it isn't forcing a donut in Rnd 12/13.
I'd choose Kav over Boston. I don't like Boston's JS at all, and even though Kav's might be shakey, I will guess it is better than Boston's.

Hey Rowsus, just curious as to whether you've run the numbers as to who are the best Floating Donuts for the back half of the year. Cheers mate.
I did look at it a few weeks ago, and from memory it was StK (Payne) just better than WC.

Hi Rowsus,

Although I was expecting to have at least 20 players this week, teams selections haven't gone according to plan and have left me with 2 donuts. Tossing up between three options:

1. CEY > Boston/ Kav (whoever isn't sub) and McIntosh > McGovern

2. CEY > Boston/ Kav and Bellchambers > Harvey

3. CEY > Boston/ Kav and Krak > Harvey

The first option is the classic one up one down but unsure if McGovern is worthy? But it does help me with a R13 defender.

The second option loses that Ruck cover which I really wanted to avoid a donut for when a ruck misses a game (but bellchambers has failed me...)

The third option forces me to pick out of Boston and Kav before subs are known. Also with Harvey, I see that his last three scores against Sydney are 57, 46, 63.

Your thoughts are much appreciated.
I'm glad you spotted Harveys scores vs Syd, it is what put me off getting him this week too!

So Boston is confirmed to not be sub tomorrow?

I wouldn't want to bet my left knacker on it, but it might pan out.

If you do end up choosing between Kav and Boston, I think I'd be backing Kav to play more games than Boston after the byes. I think Boston is lucky to be there due to their injuries.

I sure hope so!

Rowsus, do you think the Dumont boat has sailed?
Is it still worth getting him in at this price over say Boston?
Thanks!
I do believe it may be too late, though I understand he might help some Coaches structure better than Boston or Kav. Dumont won't be a great Cash raising prospect, if he is traded in this week, but that might no be your greatest consideration. I prefer Kav over Boston.

thanks so much for helping mate. Only other option i can see is tarrant/Clark
Trading Tarrant won't help your donut this week, and you might need to hope that Clark plays next week. But if you can see a useful trade involving Tarrant to a Rnd 13 player, then why not?

It would only be a means to an end. You would have to assume Stretch will quite probably disappear again, before he has been of much use, points or dollar-wise. If you are prepared for, and can accommodate that, then why not Stretch? Of course, Kav could disappear quickly too.

Great thanks Rowsus. As a Bomber supporter, being able to bring in a young Bomber excites me. Hopefully he can bring the goods!

Darkie, the most sensible structure to have, is to build as many points into your team as you can as your first goal, then worry about coverage as your second goal. In general, I wouldn't think there was a need for planned FD's as the season wears on. Not many of us are getting more than 25 or 26 of our squad selected on weekly basis anyway, so the tools are already there for loopholing. I do think it is very important to build DPP links where possible, especially if your season is travelling well, and you can afford say a $450k M/F sitting at M9/F7 for coverage. Not many will be in this position, but having built in versatility provides coverage for those tricky weeks, as well as better loopholing possibilities. I don't think you need the full set of links, and I certainty wouldn't compromise selections to make a 3rd or 4th set of DPP's, but if someone doesn't have one or two set up already, and they are tossing up player A and player B, then picking the one that completes a link is a good idea!
The larger problem, in trying to set a generic structure or guideline, is that every situation is different. Some lucky teams already have 19 Keepers, DPP links set up, and 16 trades left. Other teams, like myself, have been gutted by one long term injury after another, and only have 15-16 Keepers, and 13 trades left. The "lucky" Coaches can pick and choose, and make a great team with good coverage. Coaches like myself will have to make compromised selections. As an example, I will be replacing MJ (my 8th LTI trade!) with B Smith. I'm not happy about doing it, and would prefer someone else, but if I am to complete my team with no Rookies in my starting 22, I will need to make at least 2 compromised selections. They look like being my D6 and F6.

Thanks for the help, Zagbag. :)
My response to Zagbag was obviously written before the StK v Bris game. He has since added a 99 (AF 97) and 119 (AF 133), and similarly as I said with each Coach needing to trim his cloth to suit his own needs, it really applies here too. Depending on how many trades you have, and if you are a missing the M1/2/3/4's then you might need to keep him, or be better served by using him for what you got him for. While you gain an advantage of trading him to a Rnd 11 Mid Prem, that advantage may not equal a full trades worth. For example, say you trade Steven to Beams. Beams counts in your Rnd 12 score, and might replace a Rookie score in that Round, had you kept Steven. Let's say Beams is 115, and the Rookie was 65, advantage 50. To get the full measure for your trade (about 170 - 200 points at this time of year), you need Beams to outscore Steven by around 12/game from here on in to justify it. It's possible that will happen, but that's about the equation you are looking at, to trade Steven out. Otherwise, you hang onto him, as the last player to be upgraded, or if you are travelling really well, a fantastic M9! If the upgrade of Steven involves bringing in say Fyfe, then you just do it, as I'm pretty happy you will get your 12/game from the deal.
Thank you Rowsus (and Zagbag!). I will bear in mind your comments on structure, and probably shift the focus towards that as we come out of the byes.

In relation to Steven, I was thinking in a somewhat similar way, and now plan to trade him, particularly as I have nowhere near enough warm bodies in round 12 ... so the incremental points would be one premium mid score (rather than a premo less a rookie). He would likely be traded for Sloane, and net me 100k, or 20 points per game (once deployed). Essentially I think it's 11 x (Sloane + 20) vs (10 x Steven + 1 trade). If a trade is worth 170-200, I think the Sloane option is the superior one, potentially by a fair bit. Out of interest, what value do you place on a trade in round 1 and 23?

I should be one upgrade from done in round 13, with my round 12 numbers up from 10+ to 16+ players if I do the following trades:

Clark/Glenn/McKenzie to Gray/Dumont/Hamling, then Saad/Miller/Steven to Birchall/Beams/Sloane.

I think that's a good balance of short-term bye cover and getting in my long-term targets ... Should everything go exactly as planned from this point!

Thanks again, I hope your bye planning has been better than mine :)

Hi Rowsus, im stacked with round 12 players so wanted to go a week early and pick up a round 11 defender.
Im looking at Simpson v Houli v Burgoyne.
Ive read most of your opinions on these guys since it's been asked so many times but i just wanted your view on why Houli is scoring better this year. Do you think he can keep it up? Has he got a role change? I never even considered him until i saw your thoughts in thinking he'll be a top defender this year.
Thanks

Hi d-buzzz,
it's more a change in Richmonds style/attitude of play that is suiting Houli, he is really benefitting from it. He has in previous seasons, when you split the season into two halves, featured in, or just outside, the best Defs. Either Simpson or Houli should be ok, not sure about Burgoyne, he can miss games, and score poorly at times.
