A starting midfield of Rocky, Sloane, Libba, O'meara and Brad Crouch could give you the cash reserve to go for a full premium ruck setup including Goldy and some decent defence options as well. After the 'Lumumba' experience this year that sure sounds good!

But who out of this year's starting def premium contenders is still in the mix? I'd say hodge and shaw, sure, but the rest have been disappointing or just emerged from just below premo status.

I will definitely be watching Dane Rampe closely. His average is growing steadily each season: 59.5, 76.0 and currently 84.7.

His last 3 have been 84, 127 and 90. If he continues this form to the end of the season, and has a good pre-season, he is almost a lock at sub-460k.

Newnes seems to have passed as an 'OK' pick this year, 12/18 scores of 80+ and 6 tons with an average approaching 90. What's peoples thoughts on picking him as a starting defender again next year?

I'm not so sure he'll be a defender next year. From what I've seen he has spent most of his time on a wing, so don't be surprised if he is MID only.

Think we can all lock in Christian Petracca. MID/FWD I'd presume.
If I recall correctly there were some doubts over his tank and concerns that he would play mainly Fwd this year prior to his injury. Coming off a knee reco, I imagine his tank will be worse. Probably one to watch closely during pre season to see if he is worth picking or not.

Rance and McGoven might be worth a look in

From what I've heard the stories about him struggling during preseason training with the aerobic work was just media hype and trying to create a story out of nothing.
Had he not done his knee, he was locked in to play round 1.

Hurn as well. Eagles get their key defenders back next year so Hurn will be freed up again. Should be priced about 10-15 below what he is capable of.
He is priced exactly what he is capable of!!!

Current owner that can't wait to give him the flick in round 21

This was my thinking. I would be hoping for some evidence of it during pre-season (I'd probably take a "more mid-field time" comment from Simpson :p ) but he's definitely on my watchlist. Has a pretty good track record of delivering at a level that would probably pass as a def keeper nowadays, and will be priced well below that. He's now the captain as well, so you'd expect him to play at every opportunity.

I think there was some talk of some minor injury in the pre season that was hindering him but not stopping him from playing too.

Just a vague recollection but if true he may even still be playing through with it.

Maybe Lits can confirm or just tell everyone that my memory is ......................................................................whats the word...............................................................................................to be doubted.

I recall this because I started with him and just before round 1 began to doubt the selection, I traded him out in round 13 and when my sons asked me why I said for a real premium (Simpson) as I was totally sick of his scoring by then.

That was my thinking this year so had him in my starting team. Just one of a few poor defensive choices in my starting line up.

Not sure about worse.

He may not be playing footy but he'd still be doing strength and conditioning every other day..........as apposed to going to school.

Probably starting at around 440k, I think that Adam Saad will be as good value as any defender next year. I would expect him to average 90+

Another one to note, Buddy looks like starting at sub-500k, which is great value for a player that has proven in the past he can average above and beyond 100.
