I agree re Wells - his price is getting him across the line for me (obviously subject to pre-season, etc). I think if these sorts of players as being like more expensive rookies - but typically with much better job security and scoring potential.

He averages at least high 80s typically, so he could make a quick 150k and perhaps 200k overall if he stayed fit and replicated that. High 80s would also be great output in the forward line pre-upgrades. That would be a big leg up, I would suggest.

I like option 2.

I think the forwards have a heap of value options this year.

Right now I'm running a setup which consists of one 550k+, one 500k+, one 450k+, one 400k+, one 300k+ and then three rookies.

Cool. That will be unique and different from the herd. So much uncertainty this year in the forward line. A 5 player selection means a big pay-off if they all fire.

I had a look at StevieJ, but tend to agree with Deeman. Could be a great pick if he fires, but I think he's too risky for the potential reward. Too expensive for a stepping stone, ageing, will probably play around 18 games in my view, and might well struggle for a lot of midfield time at the Giants.

Wells is interesting at $244k. I hadn't really noticed him yet but will pay close attention to his Pre season performance. Obviously a few rough years with injury and never a really high scorer and getting old, but could deliver some value if he's fit and firing.
He is a bit mid priced though, so I would probably want him to score 90+ to make it worthwhile.

I reckon 80plus would be an excellent result for wells, but like anyone at that price you are buying him as an expensive rookie so assuming he plays Round 1 if he can make cash and play to Round 9 and you flick him at a profit then happy days IMO

Just checked his scores and TOG from last season. Obviously subbed a few times, but didn't seem to score really well even when he got some good TOG. Jury is out for me.

Yep guilty of looking at him as well but reckon he's gonna be that annoying one monster in every 6 games types that will average not much more than 80. Similar to last year but worse! I had him, trust me i know how painful it was

Depends how thirsty he gets during the year but when I think of Harley Bennell running the expanses of Subiaco for the Dockers, he's the lockiest of forwards, even at that price.

Koko was one of my first picked so hopefully he keeps his act together.

AN AFL debut is not necessarily the No.1 goal for Melbourne youngster Christian Petracca in 2016, according to midfield teammate Jack Viney, it is playing consistent football.

Viney said Petracca was in good shape in his comeback from a knee reconstruction, and the 2014 No.2 draft pick appeared mentally strong as he prepared to re-join full training at some stage after Christmas.

But Viney said the club had no expectation on Petracca beyond continuing his development.

"Next year he just needs to get some consistency in his football [and] get back to finding himself again, finding the kind of player he was before he hurt himself," Viney said.

"Whether that is [playing] VFL or AFL, I'm not really fussed, I'm more interested in him developing as a player."

Petracca missed his first season after being injured during last year's pre-season.

It's all gone very quiet. AFL are waiting on the police to finish their investigation. The severity of the charges will determine the severity of his AFL punishment.

From memory, she wasn't gonna press charges but apparently charges had been pressed...not sure how it all works but that seems odd.

My recollection from "legal study" days many years ago is that Aust is different to the USA in that that the American system allows individuals to decide whether to "press charges" against a someone, however in Australia it is up to the police or the Director of Public Prosecutions (do we still have one of those?) whether to go ahead with charges. I suppose though that if a "victim" of a crime wasn't keen to proceed, that the police may drop it as their case would be substantially weakened.

Someone with a more current understanding of the legal system may care to correct me if I'm wrong of course

Yeah that would make sense. Idiotic behaviour nevertheless, and not ideal preparation for a top tier player in a team very close to being contenders i wouldn't have thought. Wonder if his suspension opens the door for another tiger, maybe a Lloyd type who couldn't get a full run last year and comes with a decent discount (subbed 7/12 times).
