This is where i'm at now:

D: Bartel, Yeo, Smith + 5 x Rookies
M: Fyfe, GAJ, Pendles, Rocky, Selwood, Libba + 6 x Rookies
R: Martin, NicNat + 1 Rook
F: Lids, Martin, Dahlhaus, Franklin/Barlow + 4 x Rookies

All being well, that's 15 keepers. My concern is that going deep in mids means i leave fwd/defs as less of a lock - BUT these are areas that i can never get right from the outset anyway. Would lvoe Goldy, may squeeze him in if enough fwd rookies present themselves or look to take a mid-pricer.

There are a few "lock" rookies, but I'll wait til NAB Cup to fill them in.

Edit: hadn't realised Fyfye was in trouble. Might go for Danger instead?
You just need to hope a bunch of rookies are named!

Personally I wouldn't go near Buddy esp to start the year, who knows what he will do on and off field.

Solid team there mate overpaying for Shaw but more then likely #1 defender next year. Love the JPK pick too will go unnoticed with all the discount mids this year.

I cannot for the life of me understand the love for Nicholls going around however. Young, inexperienced and injury prone. His price isnt even that attractive I must be missing something. I just dont know what people expect a 23 year old ruckman whos played 30 games in 4 years to accomplish?

I understand You must take risks to do well in Supercoach but doing it in the ruck is generally not the best of ideas.

Like the idea of KK myself, especially as Suns should go a bit better this year.

Hey, Welcome Tranterpants to this great site,

Your side looks as good as any at his time of year. I've read somewhere that Otten has hurt himself, but if ready for rd.1, bargain. McVeigh just started running I believe.

The Shiels/Selwood/Ward thing in the mids going through as well, throw in Adams, Wines, Mitchell, T., Treloar and one or two others for that spot.

Rucks are your choice, personally the big two grab me

Montagna will find his way into most teams, have Martin, Bennell, Greene in my side too. The 'toe' may get the flick if not starting.

Hi Tranterpants
Your team structure looks pretty solid and I agree with most of Courtesans comments, however I just have a few other thoughts:
1. Greene could be a great pick but I think his success is very dependent on his role ant that is a bit uncertain for me at the moment. NAB may reveal more, so I'll be watching closely to see if he is high in the mid rotation order
2. KK is in a similar category to Greene for me. He did great last year when all of GCS guns were injured, but I'm not sure what his role will be once they are all back
3. Lastly, you seem comfortable with your rookie selections based on latest a knowledge and as I am not familiar with a few of them I was hoping you could share your thoughts about the following guys: Bonner, Jansen, Marcon, Rose and Hammelmann
thanks and good luck :)

Yeah my current structure has got 3 of KK, Yeo, Hibberd, Smith and maybe Docherty. I probably have it in that order at the moment but something tells me pig's gonna bounce back this year so not sure i'll be able to help myself.

Birchall? I looked at him early on in the piece but was burned by him a couple of years back. What's you view on his risk?
He is definitely a risk and will need to see how the preseason plays out. My reasoning is with Lake going Gibson will need to go back to more of a lockdown defender which should allow Birchall to get back to the numbers he was getting a couple of years ago. Also Suckling leaving should increase the hawks use of birchall out of the back half. Time will tell but none of the expensive defenders really appeal at the moment

Hi HF, interesting team. Your mids look really strong, and your forwards quite deep. Your defs are a bit riskier, but that's probably the spot to go risky.

One thing I noticed is that the Hawks connections appear to run deep in your side. I'd just be wary that you're not favouring these players to the detriment of your side. If you're using deeper knowledge of these players to your advantage, that's obviously a different story ... Perhaps only you can judge!

On the Hawks' ruck changes, what impact do you expect those to have on Roughy's role/SC scoring? He's a name I have been considering, and I note you are open to big men in the forward line, so he might be a more proven and reliable option than a Bennell or a Ryder.
Yes I normally steer clear of hawks players because the distribution of points is so even. I am certainly not sold on McEvoy and he may become Leuenberger but I feel with Hale going he will play more minutes in the ruck as I certainly don't rate Ceglar. If Ceglar plays I don't see Roughy's role changing, the interesting impact to Roughy will be how schoey goes next year. If roughy was a F/R then I would definitely have him but I don't see him increasing his scoring. If he can cement down a spot at CHF then roughy may see even more midfield minutes. I see value in Birchall but our preseason structure will determine if I stick with him. Buddy if fit and healthy is just too good a value to pass up. Anderson I really rate highly and if he can find a spot in Norths best 22 then he is a lock for me, and I expect him to do this as they gave up there first round pick for him so clearly see a role. Hartung for me is an absolute lock, first picked in my side actually, the kid is a running machine and with the sub rule gone and rotations reduced I fully expect his game time to increase dramatically.

Cheers Ricky Bobby... It changes daily, but the one above is my favourite so far.
1. Greene - Agreed, for now I have him in there due to a lack of decent forwards, although I've not looked too hard as he was one of my first picked and can really see him delivering BIG numbers. Was up there in their B&F 2 years ago til he went off the rails. Hopefully can get that back again.
2. Agreed. Just think he can be consistent this year. Something I didn't have in my backline last year. I did have Hooker but have swapped out until I see where he plays. Hopefully back.
3. Rookies - Some I've picked for price/DPP others have played VFL or outside of U18s footy. Bonner, the write up post trade was good and I think that Port will be in a position to play him off a back flank early. Jansen, bigger body and in Brisbane where he should get some good game time. Marcon, played with Lambert at Preston. Have mates their and heard good things. Rose, just based off games last year and impressed and for $155k I can add some or go down depending on game time in NAB Cup. Also just signed 2 year deal. Hammelmann mainly for dual position and Brisbane's inability to kick or stop a score may mean he gets game time.

Thanks for the welcome. Still learning the ropes (of the site, not SC)

I didn't read that on Otten, but at that price its a realistic spend for rookies. Rather than just filling with all $102k blokes. Will keep watch though.
That 500-550k mid range has a lot of solid players there. I like Adams and Treloar at the Pies but just wonder on effectiveness with the Pies having about 10 midfielders - not at their level obviously but interesting to see how they go in NAB Cup.
Thoughts on Sloane? I thought he had the tag often enough last year to show he can cope with it...

I've always generally done set & forget for the rucks too, but am just keeping Leuey there for now - spending Mids as not sure on Rookie depth. As an Essendon supporter I'm keen to see him suceed for more reasons than just scoring points.

Good to see you're on to Bennell. Guy could be ANYTHING!
Agreed on the 'toe' (New nickname?)

Thanks for the reply HF.

I like your reasoning and with Birchall being 40k cheaper than Laird, I'm tempted to switch him in

Who do you think will take Suckling's role? Will opposition teams just redouble their efforts on Birchall?

Had Sloane at the end last year, like him. Thinking about Marc Murphy as well, no reason why such a class player shouldn't av. 110.

I had Leuey at the start last year, he was crap, not going with him again.

Bennell for X factor, should be a fun rollercoaster.

Funny how nicknames start, you could have started something here. Just can just hear Bruce waxing lyrical about 'The Toe'; doesn't roll off the tongue like 'Delicious' however. As long as he bobs around like a cork in the ocean he should be fine.
