I see myself being upgrades ahead in other lines, and that one of my starting rucks won't be traded out, but swung fwd as a fwd keeper/ruck coverage. So for me it'll be a genuine upgrade using forward rookies and swinging a ruck into my forward line to get Goldy, then a "when the time is right" trade from Lobbe to Jacobs or any other ruck.
I upgraded to Jacobs in 2015. He started the first 5 rounds with an average of 90 (which is expect Lobbe to top) and had dropped over 100k by round 7. Given Adelaide's draw, it wouldn't be beyond belief that Jacobs was sub 500k come round 7-8-9. That will coincided with S.Martin being at the lowest price he'll be for the year too (Brisbane start with 3 tough, 4 middle, and 1 easier game).

As people can probably tell at this stage although I have not settled a lot of my team my instinct is to set and forget with Goldy and then go the value R2 as the punt. Lobbe appeals. My team picker that I haven't looked at in a while seemed to tell me with other value around the place that Goldy IN was not compromising things anywhere else. This may change as I get fully into it.
I haven't yet seen a no-Goldy team that doesn't appear to have a fairly easy $100K extraction out to get Goldy into R1. Be it Wells F5 or some mid-priced selection. Maybe I simply am not looking hard enough Maybe I just am stuck on him and naturally view any side with Goldy in it as better.
Who knows, come R1 I could have done a complete about face on this one.

I think rounds 6,7 and 8 will be a discounted rucks smorgasbord, but I also think Nicholls and Lobbe are bad picks, unlikely to be keepers and poor cash cows. The problem with Goldstein is North have the worst draw in the comp after round 9 and 7 of these games are against 4 of the 5 hardest teams for ruckman from last year. If you are waiting for Goldstein to drop below $600k he might not even be the best ruckman after round 9.
I can't see any clear argument with the rucks this year. I like the idea of starting a R/F and moving them forward although you are holding your breath until that happens and if you are going to hold your breath you could pick Vardy who will make more cash than Lobbe. And starting a cash cow at R2 would be handy but can't see a good one this year. I think West would be a poor cash cow at nearly $200k. Dan Currie might work if he gets a good run in the preseason.
Driving my thinking at the moment is that Goldstein is too expensive and I don't want a midpricer who won't be a keeper so I have Martin and Sandi with Tippett in the forward line and no intention of getting Goldstein.
