Absolutely love your Port insight Big Russ!! Keep it up mate. I'm sure many other SCS members appreciate your work. :)
Haha no worries mate, I sponge a lot of information from the regulars here it's only fitting to try and give back when you can. I'm pretty lucky in a lot of ways, I trained with the magpies as an u/18 so I still know a few admin type blokes around the club and get pretty good access to the players especially on these family days.

I had a chat to Chad at the game as it was tied in with Ports Family day and he said he expects to play forward more. Hell chop Gray out I the mids almost exclusively I think. Overall less midfield time but probably more goals. Still a solid pick but a no from me.
Was that Robbie or Sam Gray you are talking about? ;)

Also what was your opinion on Lobbe in the intra club match?

I agree with Goodies. Your observations are great to read BigRuss. Not sure I'm as observant when I watch a game.
Just wondering if you have any thoughts on Sam Gray. It looks to me like the Lachie Neale, Michael Barlow, Nat Fyfe situation where Neale pushed Barlow onto the half forward flank last year and this year Fyfe will be a midfielder drifting forward to allow Barlow to be a half forward drifting into the midfield.
I would think Port would prefer Robbie Gray to be a half forward drifting into the midfield rather than the other way around and Sam Gray could be the player allowing that to happen. I know he had his good scores with Wines out of the team but he took his chance and gave the coaches something to think about.
I watched Sammy pretty closely all game he played H2H with Boak basically the whole time. Hard to split them in the end I thought he maybe had the better of Boak too. Others had Boak on top but it's hard to tell without video. I love going to the footy but to actually watch games TV comes up trumps. Sam Was used quite a bit as the 2nd possession from stoppages and his hands were exceptional. I think he might be a good pick. He'll play all 3 NAB games I reckon so we'll get a better look at him over the next few weeks. It's almost certain I'll be starting either him of Westhoff.

Robbie is in my opinion one of the best 3 clearance players in the comp, especially from centre bounces. Too valuable to play forward for too long. He'll play 75/25 chopping out with Wingard I think. Makes it hard to fit Sam in to the rotation with Wines, Hartlett, Ebert etc. I have him ahead of Ebert at this point though. Like I said watch him in the NAB and more importantly who he lines up in the middle with and we'll get a good idea of where he stands.

Sorry mate was referring to Robbie. Chad and Robbie very rarely line up forward together.

Lobbe was bloody terrible, was soundly beaten by a kid yet to debut. The most alarming thing was he just didn't look very interested. In a position where he knew he was the only ruck we had but Kenny doesn't take kindly to that sort of attitude. Dare say he'll have had a rocket put up him this week. If he puts up another performance like that through the NAB there's no way he'll be in my side.

Libba v Wells?

Cheers in advance :)
I feel like Libba is gonna offer you more overall so I guess him. Much dependant on the amount fwd rookies we get though with Kerridge appearing to be the only real good one at this stage.

Both Wingard and Gray would be relying on injuries to the mids for more time on ball. I think Gray will be taking Monfries' spot - not based on anything solid, just a hunch. Would not take Gray just yet, as his role is a bit uncertain. If he plays as a more as a mid, probably a bargain. Wingard and Rioli are both wonderful small forwards. Think the Hawks are finally getting Rioli's training program right so I am expecting his durability to further improve this season. Cyril for me, could be a positive POD.

Houli or Kade Simpson for my final premo back line spot. Money or structure not an issue, just torn between the two.

Houli might lose his role as the main playmaker in the defensive 50 due to Yarran's inclusion. Simpson is the safer option.

At this stage given you actually have names on option 1 I reckon that's the go. All 3 of those appear to be players we will need and I think it is better to get your head around the concept of expensive rookies earlier rather than later. Teams with all $100K rookies look great at this stage of the year but we know that rarely eventuates into reality.

I've been morphing my team into the Ashby/Currie/Wells/Trengove types the last few days and while it is a fairly different team staring at me I'd rather start working on it now rather than with one week to go.

Pick ONE keeper mid between 520k and 600k aside from Rockliff and Wines who are already in my midfield.
