So can we start Menadue?
I really want to but being named on the bench is not a great start and with the 90 rotation limit, 22-23 per quarter isnt a lot thats one rotation every 1min20 seconds.

He should get on the ground relativly quick but this throws up the big ? in the first game of the first round.

Whats with Ellis being named in the guts and not menadue?

Ellis not only named, but named in the guts!
I know we should take positional listings with a grain of salt in named teams, but.....

Also Phillips named as starting Ruck at Carlton is interesting. Up against Hampson, who is a great tap Ruck, but useless around the ground.
For those that haven't seen Phillips play, keep an eye on his leap! One of the few in the AFL that can match it with NicNat, leap-wise!

Oliver > Ellis seems the likely way to go. Haven't been overly confident in Oliver and Ellis at least has done enough to crack the side for 6 games last year. Names in the guts almost makes it a no brainer for me.

What about a 5 rookie forward line? Or 4 with Kerridge in the mids?

Barlow, Hall, Wells, Bennedy, Menadue, Kerridge is my starting fwd line atm with mccarthy, kommer bench.

Dont like the look of a fwd line with wells plus 4 rookies on ground id rather have hall and the use a rookie in the mids e.g mills or oliver with better scoring potential.
then dea and hartley in def with brown and adams on bench

Phillips and Currie R1 and R2 Row?
He's a little pricey to be ideal ($294,600), but it's a consideration!
He did score 98 against Sydney late last season!
He also scored 98 against Melbourne in Rnd 21, 2012.
Given he's only played 14 games (in 4 seasons!) with 2 98's in there, that's not hopeless for a (cheapish) Ruck!

Need big grapefruits to go with that i think but goldy and stefan are sure to drop in price so its not absolutely ludicrous
Would anyone ever be game enough?? I'm most likely starting Currie R2 and am awhere of how much risk just that is. But Phillips aswell! Gee if that pays of... Might aswell award you the 50k for the guts you have

Ok,Corey Ellis is very promising & thrilled to see him named Rd 1.
He is silky skilled & can win his own ball but he missed a lot of footy in his 1st year with injury.
Not a real accumulator at this stage but rarely torches it.
Will hold his spot imo for a while, whether hes got the tank of a KMac is doubtful off 2 pre seasons.

The biggest concern I have is, outside of the odd 90 thrown in there, he looks like a 70-75 Ruckmen. That means minimal growth, dollar-wise. If you start him, you want $80-$100k's growth, which will require him to be a near 80/game player. That might be a stretch.

So can we start Menadue?
Of course we can.

He's in the round 1 team, he played well during NAB and the coach has talked him up.

The fact he's been named on the bench means squat just like C Ellis named in the guts doesn't mean anything either.

Not that it matters if a player is named on the bench anyway, remember that the final teams hardly ever reflect the teams named the night/s before.

Have had that structure for a lot of the preseason but having to start all of Kennedy/Menadue/Milera and now Ellis on the same line is too big a risk for mine.

Add to that a Wells who's struggled to stay fit over the years and you may be stuck with too many holes to fix.

Tempting though.

Out of interest, the players listed on the AFL site best 22 who aren't named in the RD1 Richmond side are:

Maric (Back ?), Conca (Hamstring 7-9 weeks), Deledio (Quad 1 week), Lennon (?), Grigg (Thumb test) and Yarran (Foot 6 weeks)

and they've been replaced by:

S. Hampson, C. Ellis, D. Rioli, S. Lloyd, S. Morris and K. McIntosh.

Should we be concerned, that Ellis has had surgery on both feet now?
If it is a navicular, or PF problem, they can be career threatening, and he is only 19.
Do we take faith, that surgeries have fixed the problems, or is he a ticking time-bomb, waiting to explode?

totally agree with you here. never really considered him but if he was a extra 80k or so cheaper id maybe think about it. and im sure Carlton will try a few things this year with him and Gorringe

He had the original issue going into the draft, had pre season surgery & played a few games.
Then he had a similar niggle with the other foot & they put him on ice before it became a real issue

Clearly he has an interrupted start, exactly what happens from here is just a guess.
But I doubt hed be there tomorrow night if they werent 100% happy
