Hey Rowsus how do you figure out the week by week players?
Hey Pro, I might be a bit thick at the moment, but I'm not sure what you mean by "the week by week players".
Sorry doing my business finance hw :|

I meant the price of players week by week. So if a player is worth $300,000 scores 70,75,80 consecutively, what is his price at the end of the 3rd round?

Looking for a formula so I don't need to bother you every time.
To be 100% accurate, you need to calculate the MN as it changes each week, then plug into these two equations.

B/E = (3 x current price / MN) - most recent score - score before that

New Price = current price + ((latest score - B/E) x 440)

You need to keep in mind that prices are rounded off to the nearest 100 when presented, but are calculated using the "real", unrounded price to a number of decimal points. Because of this, your calculated new prices are generally +/- $300

Hi Rowan,
The new season is almost upon us. My question is who do you see as that player to 'have a go' with. Not to many Wells' to look into.
As an idea Jack Martin takes my fancy. What do you reckon off the cuff.

Hi Keith,
you are spot on. We really seem to be missing a Wells or Kerridge this season.

Juzzo actually asked me about Jack Martin back in mid/early December.

Thoughts on Jack Martin Row?
Could he improve/breakout?
D/F bonus.

Good to be back annoying you again!
Here is my reply.

Great to have you back, Juzzo. It wouldn't be the same without you!
Jack Martin was described as a complete freak, and the greatest thing since Betty White*, before he debuted. A great example of a junior champion not making the complete step to senior standard.
This his 4th season, and even though the past 2 seasons were only his 2nd and 3rd, given the injury woes GC had, he should have shone a little better, if he was going to make the SC grade this season. First 3 games in 2016: 91, 111, 90. First 2 games after the byes: 103, 116. He's good fresh! But take out those games, and his biggest 2 games streaks in 2016 was: 84, 86 in Rnds 9 & 10, and 81, 93 in Rnd 22 & 23. That's just not going to cut it, even for a Def.

* someone once stated out that Betty White is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He was then told that Betty White was actually born before sliced bread was "invented", so he corrected himself, and said "Sliced bread is the greatest thing since Betty White!"
Some "value" picks I will be keeping an eye on in the JLT are:
Defs: Langdon (not in full training yet), Marchbank, Hunt, Williams (Nth), Kolodjashnij (GC)
Mids: Redden, Aish, Selwood S, Swallow D
Ruck: Leuenberger, Nankervis, Giles, Vardy, Holmes
Fwd: Steele, Clarke, Cameron (Ade), Hopper, Langford (Ess), Petrie, Hoskin-Elliott

Reckon there would have been a lot more discussion of Nankervis if Sandi hadn't been the obvious one filling that role. R/F makes him pretty attractive. Big watch in JLT.

Yes I had a quick scoot around BF etc and but sounds likely that even if he plays it will be a shared load and with Nankervis the better forward he's likely to play 2nd ruck (similar scoring to when at SYD, possibly?). Will keep an eye on but agree not promising.

Hi row

I apologise in advance if you have answered this question. Most teams are using 3 premium defender structure this season and there is a lot to choose. I was hoping if you can provide me with your opinion ie a yes or a no if you would consider starting them in your squad.

Doch
Simpson
Shaw
Joey m
Rance
Adams
Laid
Burgoyne
Jj
Vince

Lastly what is your opinion regarding beams? Is it best to start him? Is to much risk involved If your team has Adams and beams?

Hi Row,

I've got another question if it's not too much trouble! I'm not 100% sure if there is any correlation, but I'd imagine as players develop their tanks their disposal efficiency would increase? Less of the tired mistakes later in the quarters/games? In particular I'm interested in Grundy who gives up 10-20% (if I'm not mistaken) on Gawn and Goldy etc.

Hi Ad,
all 10 Defs on your list are under my consideration.

Doch - high price + 21/game jump last year scream "wait" to me
Simpson - consistent, but coming off a 6.6/game career high, and 10+ recent high. Really overpriced!
Shaw - the only query is, how often he gets tagged. Maybe not as often as people think!
Joey m - only 1 season in his last 10 would disappoint, from a Def point of view.
Rance - Being a tall Def, he'll have periods of low scoring, and a price drop at some stage, I would think
Adams - if he looks fit through the JLT I think you have to forget his injury history, and pick him. He's only 23!
Laird - seems a safe-ish pick
Burgoyne - I will be watching him and Hodge closely in the JLT, to see how much Mid they play, especially game 3.
Jj - will be up there, but I wouldn't be surprised if he PIT's closer to 8th than 1st, if he doesn't get injured.
Vince - will have some 120+'s but will have more sub 70's and 80's

As to Beams, I really think for now, you are better off constructing a team without him, and then if he shows he's ok, you can easily swap him into your team before Round 1. If he looks fit, he's probably worth the risk.

Hi MC,

Let's look at D Martin and Hannebery, who have both improved their tanks since 2014, as well as Gawn and Grundy:

was wondering what your view on lachie weller is?

scored 76,114 and 95 against 3 good teams in the last 3 games playing in the backline and has been training there so far

to mid priced for pretty much everyone but if he can continue on the form from those last 3 games he will be a pretty good pick

Hey Rowsus,

Apart from Gary Ablett, has anyone EVER gone from the number 1 scorer from 1 season to the number 1 scorer of the next?

Also don't think any 700k+ initial selection has turned out to be successful.

Excellent question, I look forward to sone other opinions, though I'd suggest that Ablett a few years back was certainly a successful 700k pick for those who perma-captained or loopholed him. As far as value for money, you need to factor in some reliability as far as captaincy options go rather than expecting a certain 130/week.
The risk becomes significantly higher once you start pushing past the 600k mark though, that's for sure!

Hey Rowsus,

Is there any reason why I'm seeing a general consensus of JPK over Hanneberry? I'm most likely biased but Hanneberry is an absolute treat to watch, and after two seasons of 113 at the age of 25 I feel like he has larger upside.

Think it's mainly down to his interrupted preseason as a result of knee injury in the GF.

There was an article this week saying he had come back in great shape though and "blitzed" the 3k time trial in December (don't know if blitzed means won), so I'm starting to think he could be a good option. In 9.9% of teams to JPKs 11% though so not a massive POD (though around here I've not seen him mentioned much).

Hey Rowan,

What are your current thoughts on rucks this year? Who have you got in currently and who will you be looking at over the JLT Series?

No, Hanners apparently blitzed it by a good distance between himself and runner up.

Tom Mitchell leaving could help JPK. I think Longmire really struggled to know what to do with Mitchell because he doesn't seem to fit anywhere other than at the feet of the ruckmen but JPK is already the best in the comp at it.

Hi Rows,

Just wanted your opinions on two players I am looking at.

Mark Murphy - Very well priced and looking good so far. Can he return to his best? I am tempted but cannot see him being a keeper. I reckon he might average 105pts at best even if he has a good run with injuries. I really cannot see him getting back to a 110+ average like he did back in 2011/12. So unless you plan to have him as a stepping stone I am guessing you don't start with him???

Tom Boyd - I seriously considering taking a risk with this bloke as R2 and Witts at R3 with a R/F possibly a FD at F8. I am thinking he may take his game to the next level this year after gaining confidence in a Premiership side. He was unlucky not to win the Norm Smith with 8 marks and 3 goals. I think at worst he could be a good cash earner or stepping stone in the Rucks once we work out the best R1 & R2.

Your thoughts as always are appreciated
