There are only 2 people I take any note of, when scores are dissected on this site.

Footyrulz and Forensic Phil.

The rest are largely guessing. :)

He went up to 130. The scaling down to 126 would've been correcting an error from earlier in the game.
Sheridan looks like Fyfe in the middle of a pack. The commentators called Sheridan Fyfe a couple of times and I found myself thinking the same thing. It would have been a correction.

I also noticed last night how many pressure acts Fyfe applied. The prospectus had an article a couple of years ago called measuring nothing. He gave a great shepherd out of the centre bounce that allowed his team mate to take the ball and kick it inside 25.

The reduction to 126 was because he lost a clearance after the game.

It still doesn't explain how 2 effective contested possessions (supposed to be 4.5 points each - because it was a high-scaling period of the game, let's say they round up to 5 each) and a tackle (3-4 points) = just 6 points at that stage of the game.

No it doesn't, which makes me think that maybe the score had updated before you looked at the scores after the first possession?

Under normal circumstances, it would've been 3 for each of the contested possessions, 1 for the handball, 0 for the ineffective kick, and either 0 3 for the tackle (I'm not sure if counted as an effective tackle, because the handball went to a teammate). That adds up to either 7 or 10 points, which should've been about 10-13 at that point in the game.

My hunch is that the tackle didn't count, and the first possession had already registered, so he went from 124 to 130 for that last play.

The tackle definitely contributed to his DT score, but that was also my similar thought: because the tackle occurred right before the siren went (and Fyfe was already on 130 at that point, his score didn't budge after) maybe it didn't get factored into his final score for some reason.

I noticed something similar the other week. Toby Greene took a contested mark in the goalsquare and kicked a goal right before the final siren went.... his score only went up 5 points. Now I know it was the final seconds of a dead rubber, but surely an act that would get you roughly 15 points in any other situation could've been worth more than 5? My theory was that the scores didn't refresh in time for the siren and therefore his goal points didn't get added.

I really think now that some acts that occur right before the final siren, before the scores update one final time, don't get counted for whatever reason. Because I know for a fact that Fyfe was on 130 before his final effective clearance kick and tackle (because I was actually celebrating that that could have put him over the 140 mark), yet his score didn't budge when the siren went and the pre-scaled scores were published.

Not sure if this has been posted but VICE did a short video/documentary on champion data and all the work that goes on behind the scenes to produce stats and hence supercoach and fantasy scores
watch it below on youtube

Quite amazing how much they analyse it but i could also see how some bias could come into play also.

Just remembered a couple of years ago, I studied the live scoring like an absolute madman for a few weeks to work out as much of the scoring as I could. Below is what I found and I find it to be far more accurate than what is said on the SC site itself, which seems to give everything 'max' points (the score you'd get if the game is on the line in the dying stages). What I've got is what I believe is how 90% of the game would be scored.

Note it may have changed slightly though, as I did this in 2015.

I thought I'd clarify the scoring system to the best of my ability as a lot of people are using the outdated numbers present on the SuperCoach website and wondering where some scores have come from. Before I get asked, I've watched a lot of live scoring this season and I'm purely basing it off what I've seen happening. The numbers below are going to be from when a game is in a neutral position (the game is neither on the line or in a blowout). So here we go:

KICKS

Ineffective: 0
Backwards: 1
Long (40+ metres) to a contest: 2
Effective short or long: 3
Long to advantage: 5
Clanger (unforced error): - 3

NOTE: A kick to a contest less than 40 metres in distance is deemed ineffective.

HANDBALLS

Ineffective: 0
Effective: 1

MARKS

From teammate, uncontested: 1
From teammate, contested: 3
From teammate, contested inside 50: 4
From teammate, on lead: 3
From opposition, uncontested: 3
From opposition, contested: 6

FREE KICKS

Free for: 3 (counts as a contested possession)
Free against, in a contested situation: -1
Free against, in an uncontested situation: -3
Give away a 50 meter penalty: -5

HITOUTS

To advantage: 5
To disadvantage (sharked by opposition): -1
Gather from ruck contest: 2

TACKLES: 3

GOAL: 6* (can vary dramatically depending on closeness of the match)

HANDBALL RECEIVE: 1

HARD OR LOOSE BALL GET: 3

SPOIL, SHEPHERD OR SMOTHER: 1

SPOIL GAINING POSSESSION: 3

SCORE ASSIST: 3

CONTESTED KNOCK ON: 4

BOUNCE: 1

Hmm yeah i really don't know what was going on there. I'd probably have to watch the last minute live to given any informed interpretation. Stats that happen just before the siren certainly count, but maybe CD made the call that the game was over when he laid that final tackle, so he only got 1 point?

Dusty with a match low 34.4% disposal efficiency and match high 8 clangers and he still scored around 100.

14 CP is very high, and had a massive last quarter when the game was won. The goal was worth 20 odd just on its own.

He was massive in the last quarter when they came over the top. Had a terrible DT:SC at 3/4 time. Can't remember exactly what but remember he was about equal with Butler for a lot of the third quarter, and he was in the mid-40s.

He had a lot of effective contested possessions and a goal in the last quarter and IMO was one of the main factors in them getting up.

Are FA counted as Clangers?
Clanger: An error made by a player resulting in a negative result for their side. Disposal clangers are any kick or handball that directly turns the ball over to the opposition. Frees and 50 metre penalties against, No Pressure Errors, Dropped Marks, Ball-Up Kick-Ins and Debits are included in clangers.

Dropped Mark: A marking opportunity that is dropped, resulting in a contest at ground level. Does not include marking contests with an opposition spoil.
Ball-Up Kick-In: When a player steps on or over the line of the goal square when kicking the ball-in after a behind. Counted as a clanger.

Can't find a definition for a debit.

Scaling isn't based on quality of performance. It's based on correcting errors and ensuring the scores add up to 3300.
Not sure this is correct.

In close games you could always bank on scaling to the most influential players with the points coming off the players not involved. It was so predictable I'd even factor it into VC's final scoring before final scores if an early decision needed to be made.

In blowouts scaling went to the best players of the first halves.
