Thanks heaps IDIG... Wow only 66 in last quarter.. one of best quarters by single player I've seen in last few years
Now you've got me thinking about Hird's last quarter against west coast and how much he would've scored. It was so long ago I can barely remember if it was that good!

Clearly it's not, as many places post scores quarter by quarter and i have an APP that shows the scores almost live...
Yes, but those scores ARE NOT FINAL. It is all reviewed AFTER THE GAME and the quarters are weighted AFTER THE GAME so at best the 'live' scores are an educated guess, usually they are correct +/-5 pts but they are only an indicator. Next time a player gets subbed off early in a game, I guarantee their score will continue to change throughout the entire match despite the fact they clearly haven't had any impact on the contest! The only numbers that Champion data endorses are the ones they release AFTER THE GAME. anyone who thinks that Cotchin and Ellis, among others didn't deserve the scores they got was watching a different game to the one I saw! However, it is still a human system and as such is open to interpretation, for example I believe that Fyfe was clearly Freos best on ground however CD clearly disagrees. If you want a purely stats based approach, play dream team, otherwise realize that sometimes your personal opinion WILL BE DIFFERENT, that's why they call it an opinion, not fact. But for us to sit on our couches and criticise CD with a handful(if any) stats to back us up as opposed to a number of professionals using a vast array of statistics where every minute of every game is reviewed by multiple people to remove as much personal influence as possible is laughable. Could you do it better? Could you come up with a better ranking system and administer it to every game, every week and NEVER MAKE MISTAKES? Just sit back and enjoy the fact that you just watched a great game of footy! Isn't that what it's all about?

Edit:Not a Cotchin owner

Firstly, of all, I do NOT have Cotchin in my team

Secondly, Cotchin's score (at first instance) obviously raised my eyebrows since I used to watch play by play on the AFL website and usually have a good idea of what the scores are by watching the play-by-play action.

However, I remember vaguely watching something on TV a few years ago on how Champion Data assess their scores, noting that Champion Data make money more from giving statistical analysis to Clubs and make less money on SuperCoach/AFL Dream Team (iirc).

I vaguley recall that Champion Data have 3-4 people watching the game. One guy calls the play and says Watson, Cotchin, Ablett, effective kick, in-effective kick, tackle to Swallow, clanger to Stanton (lol nice example). The another person double checks the play and a third person actually puts the stats down. Then the computer system does everything. The person who makes the call does not know how many points get allocated to the play, he just says effective, ineffective, clanger etc.

Naturally, it's painful seeing Cotchin's score, but I'll try to be the voice of reason as I remember watching that footage. Let me find it.

It will take me a while to find it, but I remember this article: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/sup...lf-in-supercoach/story-fn88c7kz-1226385084322

Cotchin deserved 60sc for that last quarter at the most. Sorry, but as good as he was, Richmond lost the game. He wasn't the match winner.

Can't believe ChampionData rated Cotchin's 4th tonight as good as Ablett's 4th quarter against St.Kilda... a quarter of football which created a Twitterstorm and calls that Ablett is the greatest player of the modern era... 3 goals to lead his team to victory...

Joke.
My thoughts and those of most except a certain diehard Richmond supporter who has him in their team. As he says though if you want a more objective basis follow DT.
No way that quarter was anywhere near as influential as Ablett played in round 1.
For mine, Ballantyne with 4 goals and the game sealer has a much closer influence on this game than his relative score with Cotchin's points would suggest. But in part in comes down to a relative team view and clearly the scoring says Richmond had a handful of influential players and Freo had a much greater spread of contributors.

Wow, I missed three pages of convo after I went to bed at 11:30! For all the Cotc yay/nay stuff, it was a top game - exactly the result you want for Friday night footy.

As for the next two days, a couple of things need to happen for me - GAJ needs to go big (happy with a 150+), Tex needs to go big (starting at a 100+, but want a 120+), Stevenson needs to play so I am not fielding a donut, and the Doc needs to pay my early trade in faith in him. 654/6 at the moment - going ok, but it will tail off - hopefully my double look at scores in the mid and ruck will help.

Anyone know the rules on when it hits a goal ump and goes back into the field of play? I seem to recall that the ball is still live. That said, do they have to do everything to get out of the way of the path of the ball?

Umpire was in the correct position, as they are coached to do, positioning himself on the line and against the post. Ball was still live in the field of play and I think Hill then technically rushed a behind.

Who would everyone start out of Rowe, Kerridge, Neade and Sinclair?

Carlton and Adelaide play before Port so I'm leaning towards Rowe or Kerridge. Looks like its not a bad day so the big fella will probably get the nod. I actually think Rowe's been underscored a couple of times and on the big MCG he could do well tonight.

Hey guys you should really look up the score rules and study up hard because some of you have the wrong way of looking at it. Supercoach isn't a quarter by quarter scoring game its meant to be after the final quarter. Them quarter by quarter are just guessers.
Cotch was by far the best out there and in the last im pretty sure he went 100% by foot.
Any way if you don't like it there is lots of games you can play out there now including dreamteam.
Thats my final word about last night and onto today.

So hes aloud on the field
Well if it touches the umpire, it isn't counted as a Goal unless it goes past the Posts. It's not about the Umpire being on the field, they need to position themselves to see the ball carefully.

I think a similar situation has happened in recent Seasons, but can't remember when. It's the Team's responsibility to make sure it is away from the Goal Umpire. They can't adapt to the "Pressure" of Teams not kicking the ball in the other space of the Goal.

Relax mate, everyone is entitled to voice out their opinion, no point in telling people to go and play other games.
Cotch did well and he's in your team, good on you!
