Hi Rowsus

Bad luck about the Dees today , I think they said that was their 18th loss in a row to the Kangaroos.

But anyway I was just updating my spreadsheet and was curios about Oliver.

Who has the highest average in their second season , I know Barlow went well and possibly Broughton.

Also Oliver averaged 70.31 in his first year and is now sitting at 112.22 , would that be the biggest increase in average again for a second year player , I guess someone may have gone 30/40 to 90 odd.

Thanks for your time
Hi Herbie,
firstly Barlow and Broughton.
Barlow had an amazing 1st season of 13/116.0, breaking his leg. His 2nd season was still injury affected, and he went 9/83.7.
Broughton first season was 15/98.7, and his second season was nearly identical at 15/98.6. This places him 6th best on the 2nd season list.
Excluding Oliver, whose season isn't over yet, the highest 2nd season averages are:
N Fyfe 21/108.0
M Bontempelli 20/103.2
O Wines 22/100.3
J Macrae 21/100.1
D Martin 22/98.9

The biggest increases for a 2nd year player are:
T Rockliff 73.9 (1/12.0, 19/85.9)
P Cripps 57.0 (3/39.3, 20/96.3)
P Dangerfield 43.1 (2/19.5, 19/62.6)
M Priddis 41.1 (2/49.0, 22/90.1)
L Neale 39.5 (11/47.4, 9/86.9)
J Macrae 38.7 (13/61.4, 21/100.1)

As you can see, we have to go down to Neale and Macrae to get past players that only played 1, 2 or 3 games in their first season.
So if Oliver can maintain the rage, he will have the largest ever 2nd year average, and the biggest increase for a 2nd year player, that played more than 3 games in his 1st season.

Cheers Rowsus.

Absolute incredible analysis as per usual , I thought we would have a couple of players with 1 or 2 games and then a big jump.

Come on Oliver , smash these records, will certainly be watching his next 4 games closely.

Incredible to think what he may score in the future as I still think he has played less than 40 games.

Paul Roos was correct when asked why they took him so high , because he is a footballer.

Cheers

Good post GFB. You've convinced me to hold Nank and break Kreuzer next week.
If Kreuzer named will you pick him. Talk is still to be assess and recovering slowly. not sure I like that.

Thought this week it would be Darcy to Kreuzer/Gawn, now Witts is out. If Darcy also out, I could consider Gawn and Kreuzer in, would want greater confirmation Kreuzer is looking ok if commiting that kind of money.

Could swing Ryder to ruck and means playing both Greenwood and Nank on field rather than judging who to play late on Sunday vs match ups.

Depending on outs, considering Nank to Jack Martin in the fwd line - Rowsus/Freowho - any views on him. recent form looks ok and first 3 SC finals draws he looks ok before playing port in GF.

BTW Rowsus, per our earlier discussion I avoided Sloane, we are 2/2 in last couple of weeks. Whilst it makes me nervous not having Sloane, I liked when Boak said today he is happy to sacrifice his game to nullify Sloane this weekend.

I don't have Witts but am covering Danger and JPK with my backline and forwardline. If JPK and Darcy are out I will trade Darcy to Gawn leaving me with 2 trades so Nank probably survives. I might just upgrade Darcy to Gawn anyway.
I think there are lots of better options than Jack Martin at a cheaper price.

Nank will play forward this week Mafia, he will be only tall target with Jack out.

Did some work on Nank, moved forward once Sam Lloyd was dropped. Sam hasnt played VFL yet.

Nank scored 94 vs Brisbane playing forward in R17. Should go ok vs Gold Coast this week and with May also out of the side. Will be main target with Jack R not playing.

Will reassess Nanks next week. If playing ruck, think he could do well vs Hawks. Nanks has a good run home if playing ruck, less so if a fwd as Hawks/Geelong in my view give up points in the ruck, not as much to fwds.
Good post GFB. You've convinced me to hold Nank and break Kreuzer next week.
Just not sure Nank will survive in our teams next week. Ben Griffiths is unlikely to be back soon given injured shoulder last week.

Would need Dimma to realise Soldo not doing much, better to have Nank rucking and go back to more crumbing forwards (Sam Lloyd or someone else).

For all we know, if Jack had played maybe they would have done that. Agree, sit on Nank for one week, be circa 100 is not too bad.

If no change to Richmond side and no other players out next week, then trade him then.

trades needing to be done are building with Pendles to go, JPK needing quality cover or to go and Darcy upgrade to come.
Good news is I think Soldo will be dropped and Nank back to the forward line.

Team stretched this week with Danger, JPK, Darcy, Witts and maybe Greenwood out.

Assessing trades, feels like Witts/Darcy to Gawn and Kreuzer. Thoughts Rowsus.

Kreuzer maybe a risk coming from concussion however looks like the best run of the rucks and has recent track record over last 10 games.

Have double chance in this league. Greenwood out means Young plays (exhausting all bench cover).

Alternative trades are to either upgrade mid non playing rookie to prem mid (9th, probably Beams) or Greenwood to fwd (not sure who). Have dpp cover to ensure if these trades happen no donuts.

Aims is to build side and whilst Beams going up in value, moving Darcy/Witts on does complete team and leaves trades and cash to keep making changes,

Complete team - Gawn/Kreuzer
Best value combo - Gawn/Beams
Best scoring potential (I think) Kreuzer/Beams
(other mids Danger/Martin/Merrett/Fyfe/Neale/JPK/Treloar/Selwood - no Mitchell).

Thanks Rowsus - been a great help last couple of weeks (without ignoring all the work you do through the year).

Hi GFB,
sorry for getting to this late, the last few days have been pretty time-sapping workwise.
given the way selections have worked out, I'm hoping you went with the double Ruck trade!
Good luck. :)

I wish!! ha ha

Kreuzer yes and have VC on him, which may go cloe to equalling opponent with Gawn.

2nd trade will be Tom Mitchell. Think extra mid is going to be needed with Zach Merrett going to be looked at and maybe question marks over Selwood.

Reiterating the sentiment of many of our members by saying a BIG Thank You for continuing to inject your pearl of wisdoms into this amazing thread. Over 8,000 posts and no doubt countless hours of research and preparation in order to provide us with concise and clear directions in our time of need...just WOW!

I'm going to get in early for season 2018 by asking who you think/believe the early 'value' candidates are?

Just reading some old posts.

Oliver finished with a average of 111.45 from 22 games so he broke the record for the 2nd season average :)

Averaged 70.31 in his first season so a increase of 41.14 which breaks Neale and Macrae

interesting to see what he can do in his 3rd and subsequent seasons, given he would have played less than 50 games now............................................amazing

Hey Rowsus,
welcome back for 2018 :)
Just a quickie to see if you had previously done any analysis on the affect of Sandilands playing/not playing on the scores of Fyfe/Neale in the past?
I thought i remember seeing something once, if not it probably wont take too long to do myself.
Thanks!!

Hi Rowsus.

Hope it is not too early to start throwing questions at you?

It can be difficult to make decisions on players from the team that you support so I am interested in your thoughts on Luke McDonald, Ryan Clarke and Mason Wood.

Thanks in advance

Hey Rowsus,

Just wondering which players will be getting tagged mostly this year
And is it bad to have 4-5 of those players in your team
E.g. dusty, beams, titch, Zerret

All four of those mentioned are fine with a tag as far as I'm concerned. I'm happy to run with all bar Beams, who I see as missing a game or two through injury.

Hi Rowsus,

Im keen on starting Rory Lobb in my fwd line this year but would just like some confirmation on his scores whilst he is the sole ruck or with dawson simpson in the side also.
I think he should get the solo ruck duty, what are your thoughts can you see dawson taking many points off him even if he does play?

Cheers mate.

Hey mate, as an avid north supporter as well I thought I may give you my opinions on the players you mentioned, without the statistical brilliant of row.
Wood- injuries clearly the issue with this guy and the club definitely want to be cautious with him, so I see him missing one or two regardless of how he is tracking. Needs to find a bit more consistency to really make the jump. See more value in bennell, Christensen etc
Clarke- really excited about his kid. Great tank but just needs to learn to use the footy a bit better. Birchall again better value
Lmac- by far the most sc relevant player on our list this season. Can see him easily going 90+ over 22 games. Should get more midfield minutes ala late last year and loves to kick the footy. Only thing is there more reliable players around the same price point
